Imperial Beach residents say it's getting harder to deal with sewage spillage

- A massive amount of sewage and trash is moving through the Tijuana River Valley and to the San Diego County coast.
People who live in Imperial Beach say it’s getting harder to deal with the amount of sewage and trash left behind after each storm.
“We live with it, it’s a generational problem," said longtime Imperial Beach resident, Jose Corral.
Imperial Beach resident Damian Miller said he struggles to breathe in the area oftentimes.
“You can’t breathe, you can’t run," he said.
“I run along the Tijuana River floodplain, so I see the pollution. I experience the floods; I experience the aftermath you see the garbage," added Corral.
CBS 8 first captured what the Tijuana River Valley looked like after a powerful storm sent an estimated 14.5 billion gallons of raw sewage into California.

they don't even mention the smell, which can he horrific. I lived there. Really sad, one of the most beautiful beaches in SoCal.

I read about this on reddit as well, there are some people (or maybe bots) trying to play it down and say people that have issue with it is the most sensitive ones etc. but the general feeling reading materials on this is that all the public is experiencing the same thing basically
@@vito5258 It's horrible, we considered cancelling a party because the smell is unbearable, almost everyday at 6:30, you can just smell rancid diarrhea mixed with salt water. Many people on my street have left and we're considering leaving as well and this is the richer area of the city.

Imperial Beach has got to be the most polluted beach in North America. It's certainly the smelliest. I lived there from 99 to 2014, never did go into the water because you could smell the sewage in the mist. The people that live in those beachfront homes on Seacoast drive, I don't know how they deal with the smell, and it's gotten worse since I've left.
You can thank Mexican and American politicians for not doing a da.. thing to stop this for " decades " ..... for real " decades " !

A neighbor once told me Imperial Beach was the nicest beach in San Diego - I mentioned anyone who would say that either has never lived in San Diego or is just plain stupid
You neighbor was right… it “ was” back in the day 😊 voted one of the nicest beaches in all of the USA 🇺🇸.. Every year the International surf 🏄♀️ & Sand castle 🏰 competition are held here ( and we rely on those tourists) but I really don’t think it should be held this year..
The beach still beautiful to look at 🏝 at but now the smell & the waters 💦 could send you to the hospital 🏥 😢

It's going to end up in the Pacific Ocean too. All the sea creatures that aren't intelligent enough to leave will perish. It's not just Mexico. It the entirety of Mankind.
All other creatures we share Earth with ALL suffer due to us for many various reasons. Myself included. Except, I'm older. Never had children. Not against people who do though.
Live here currently and have for the last 8 years, and the smell is currently atrocious. Like as we speak.

Trust me, its so much worse now, you can literally smell raw sewage in the ocean air at the same time every day and it's starting to become harsher and more pungent as time goes on
Sucks because this place really is a dope little community to live in.
Kind of makes that ban on plastic bags and straws a little ironic.
The residents need to seriously revolt/protest en masse to Sacramento or D.C. otherwise nothing will ever get done.
The county should sponsor some volunteer beach cleanup events at least.

The TJ River is already in Mexico. The problem is they dump it in the ocean and the current brings it to the US

I live in IB.. & NO we didn’t vote for any of this . We are a Conservative city.. a small block of RED ❤ in a sea of BLUE. 🟦 We are a military community 🫡and our Government has failed us! This is an international crisis.. it happens year after year.. This year is worse because of EL NIno storms ( which is going to get worse) We know Mexico is responsible… but never held accountable.. we built them a water treatment facility.. of course it broke down.. we sent OUR engineers to fix it.. & of course it broke down again.. this time apparently unrepairable .. A new facility would cost Millions/ Billions?? 😡Our people ( US Citizens) are getting sick & our GOV does NOTHING!! Thanks Newsom / DC🤮
