- Another day, another unboxing! Today, we're looking at the incredible Spacious Tarot by Carrie Mallon and Annie Ruygt. This isn't an official review, but I will give you my first impressions of the cards and show you a full flip through of every single image. :)

Did my Year Ahead Reading with the Spacious Tarot right after filming this unboxing and 🤯 ❤️👌🏻 !!
Oh my gosh this deck is amazing! You arent looking AT the (fool, magician, high priestess, etc...) you are looking THROUGH THEIR EYES! you basically become the archetype rather than observe it... whoah. I want this deck. And the book. I love what you've read. (I'm only up to the hierophant tbh but I couldn't wait any longer to say this...) wowzwrs!!!
The art is beautiful but the concept is outside the box and a bit mindblowing.

The artist has a deep understanding of tarot. I really liked this. So simple and deep.
Wow! Your distinction between simplicity and spaciousness was spot on. These cards clearly represent essentials, but one can see how they invite going deeper. Really lovely. (And thank you for "going slow". I watch unboxings precisely to get a good sense of a deck. Can't do that effectively in a couple of minutes, ya know?)

I want this deck so badly 😭 usually I have no deep connection to depictions of the Justice card, but when I saw this one I was really moved by it. It’s so simple but so impactful. I’m obsessed

Me too! I just bought the sasuraibito deck which was quite pricey (for me) and this one is even more expensive! But it's gorgeous!

Oh my god, I don't take an interest in this deck before because I'm still a beginner reader and don't understand RWS system that well yet--still dependent on the original imagery. But your unboxing while you're also explaining how to possibly read this makes me in awe along with you about this deck! Now I'm gonna put this deck on my wishlist! I can feel that this deck could be my inner work deck!
And The Hermit is so stunning indeed! Hermit is my soul card and that Hermit seems like calling me so strongly!
Very interesting deck, not ideal for beginners (which I am not, but always thinking about cards I could suggest to people taking classes with me), really interesting vision and representations, and I like how you comment the cards, thank you! I love the Hierophant, Justice is curious, The Hanged One too. Some cards I still have to reflect upon, the court cards are strange. Still, now I want this deck too...aaah...
Yaaaay! Glad you are loving this deck! ❤️😊 I've been working with it since it arrived and having a great time. I haven't spent any time with the guidebook yet (and if I'm honest, I often don't...) but the snippets you read make me want to. Inevitably I love some cards more than others but overall this deck feels so immersive, like good world-building in a book that draws me in. Even single card draws have been great.
Possibly my all-time favorite Hierophant card. I can almost hear the water in the Chariot. It's a wonderful deck.

What a beautiful deck. Definitely on my wish list now :O) It made me feel as if I were seeing the action of the card first person. And wow, that Hanged One, such a great example of perspective shift
I thoroughly enjoyed this - love your walkthroughs/first impressions Katey. This is the first deck I've backed on Kickstarter and I could not be happier, I particularly love the Heirophant (usually problematic for me), the Chariot and Justice. Carrie and Annie did an amazing job 💖

I loved your interpretation of the justice card. How our actions cause a ripple effect. It's one of the cards I struggle with as it is so close to judgement. This has helped me see it differently

Beautiful artwork.... interesting that they use the same names for the courts as Joanna Powell Colbert used in the Gaian Tarot.... that suit of Cups is so stunning!!!!
The Gaian Tarot was absolutely the inspiration for our court titles. I gave it a shout out in our guidebook!

You are funny katey. When you do an unboxing you remind me of me when i was taught whenever i received a present to ALWAYS read the card first. That is good manners. Lol .( i just have flashbacks of being a kid when my mother was telling me this.lol)

You made it through the major arcana when I paused the video and purchased this deck. Just, “Wow” 💕 Can’t wait to use it.
It’s a beautiful tarot! Really great deck. I’ll check it out... it feels fantastic for silent meditation.
I also backed this deck, and I have so many feelings about it. I love so much about it. It’s the only deck that I’ve actually been able to connect to the animal only cards. I love these court cards! I’m just slightly disappointed with the wands suit. So many of them feel like straight up pips when so many of the other cards have more illustration and suggestion/reinterpretation of the meaning. But the illustrations and colors are beautiful. And the majors! I love how the reader is often taking the perspective of the person in the card, like we’re the empress looking out over the field of flowers.
Allison McCue I do agree with you a bit on the wands suit. It actually reminds my of the Sasuraibito a bit in that sense, where so many of the other cards are very scenic but the wands feel much more pippish. I think they have been done well and the message still comes across, but the suit doesn’t feel quite as successful as the other three!
Lovely walkthrough and first impressions! While I think the deck is gorgeous, I didn't think it'll work for me so I refrained from backing the deck -- there's still a bit of a tug in the chest watching the video though haha ):
The Elemental Power Tarot has the same approach. I ordered it in Amazon. Not all cards are through the arcane eyes but no people either. It is a great addition to broaden the language of Tarot.

Normally I'm not drawn to decks like this...but this one, I like it very much. I like the seasonal themes too. I always see swords as winter as that suit in the deck doesn't really carry a lot of emotion as say, the cups. I'm going to write this deck down. Thank you for the review.😘☺

Hi Katey. Thank you for this great deck overview! I wonder if you've done any readings for friends or clients with this deck and if so, what you thought it in that context. The reason I'm asking is that I've been searching for a great deck with multicultural representation that also doesn't feel either too modern (cell phones; motorcycles) or too stereotyping. Now I'm seeing that maybe the answer is to take the people out altogether, so that any person could be in any card. Thoughts?
I bought this deck and I like it, except I wish that they had used the words Knight, Queen, and King. It's a little confusing if you're used to the Rider-Waite decks. In this deck they're called the Explorer, the Guardian, and the Elder. I don't know why they chose to use those titles?
A lot of decks are choosing to use new language for the courts these days, which is something I personally appreciate. It removes the binary gendered associations, and I think it expands the cards, making them more accessible and relevant to a lot of contemporary tarot users. But it is totally a personal preference at the end of the day as to whether or not it works for you.
Hiii! I loved it, I just have one question, I'm a beginner, I don't have a single deck, is it a good idea to buy it as the first deck or is it not recommended? I don't like traditional decks

You were commenting about the smoke in the strength card. Because it's a cactus, I'm thinking it may be a dust storm. Dust storms are not uncommon in desert areas. Just a thought!
Dana Norris I figured that was what was intended, it just has a different impact on me at the moment given the fires and smoke in Australia.

Yay! I’m glad you received it and did an unboxing. I did an unboxing on UA-cam as well and I ❤️ it as well. My box got a little dented too.
I’ve been reading it and it’s amazing - the descriptions in the guidebook are super helpful and offer up interesting interpretations.
Shame about the dented box, but good to hear it’s working well for you! I’m really enjoying it too, in the few days I’ve been playing with it since filming this video 😊
