There are times when Dave Weckl is in the zone and his phrasing is floating in from a higher dimension.
When is he NOT in the zone?! I have yet to see an example of that. :)
Was he in the pocket?
Don't get me wrong - he's f-ing awesome.
Sometimes the pocket is a better place for a tune

Ararat it's in my counciousness from my childhood, same old history of creation, destruction, salvation, hope and new life... Thanks for make me remember that out of the time. Love the drum sound captured in this video. Snare and toms especially sound perfect. Not too dead not too open, just right. Wish the bass drum was louder for my liking but amazing overall. And no need to comment on Dave's drumming. Living legend.

That's a comment based on branding, for ur consideration , Dave can play on a garbage can an make it sound great. I played Yamaha, Pearl, Gretsch and nowadays DDrum and Odery..every brand had his own uniqueness.
His drums always sound amazing, probably more due to his tuning skill than the drums. I'm sure he can make any top of the line drums sound like that.

The kit sounds great. the bass drum should have been pointed up with the rest of the kit though. beautiful playing by Dave as always. i Love Yamaha Drums. i HATE those ugly lugs! they really need to bring back the Nouveau lugs - those were the most beautiful lugs ever made !

Lars only fit to polish Daves cymbals.
His toms and snare sound incredible, I want a Yamaha PHX kit so bad
SXI96 It will not sound to you as it sounds when he plays. It is his individual technique, all the equpment and years of learning how to produce him self. That all togedher makes DWeckl sound.
I bought everything he uses, it sounds very good, but totally different.
I'm a dedicated Weckl fan, but I really like this music. Thanks for posting it and the video of the recording!

Lol come on. Buddy was possibly the most influential drummer ever, but Weckl is FAR more versatile. Put Buddy on a track like this and he'd have been lost.

Congrats! 100% wrong! You got it completely backwards! GOAT is not applicable to the arts. Let's explain something. It's easier to tell a GOAT where things are MEASURED, like home runs or marathon times or PPG. Get it? Where things are increasingly SUBJECTIVE, the concept of a GOAT is increasingly meaningless. Weckl is technically great but he always sounds too busy and too clinical. More like a machine. When you watch him you can see that the drums come first to him....not the music.
