The 30-0-1 safety notation is pretty widespread on CS guns, the military mnemonic for it is "30 rounds for the enemy, nothing for the ground and one for yourself".
The selector switch has a story to it that was taught to czech soldiers as a way to remember the positions (the same selector is on the Vz. 58). You should shoot no rounds to the ground (down/safe) all the rounds towards the enemy (forward/ full auto) and when overwhelmed by the enemy one for yourself (backward/ single shot).

Come to think of it, yeah it is. Also kind of a funny coincidence is that his old article on the development of the Tantal is how I first found Forgotten Weapons. I was looking for info after having just gotten a parts kit build Tantal though it had been built using a standard AK-74 receiver so it lacks the left side selector lever.
And same problems to go around USSR pushing to buy (very expensive) license to just build AK-74 and Russian spec ammo. That is why both projects took a while to complete.
On 17th November 1989 happened the Velvet revolution which meant the end of communism, not Czechoslovakia and the country had always been independent, we were not a part of Soviet Union, you got that wrong. Czechoslovakia ended on 1st January 1993 when it split into Czech Republic and Slovakia. EDIT: Yes, by "independent" I meant de iure independent and de facto under the high boot of the Soviet Union.

Surprisingly similar to the wz.88 Tantal (5.45) and wz.96 Beryl (5.56). From the simple folding wire stock design to the 1-3-30 selector lever on the left side there is a lot of similarities that arent AK-like. I wonder if there was some cooperation between CZ and FB Radom in late 80s

Nothing brings me back to a happier time than a literal bar across the door. Sure, guns are great for getting them out, but the barred door keeps them out ahead of time.
Which one? There are 4 rifles in service at this moment. Sa vz. 58, CZ 805 BREN crap w/ its proprietary magazine, CZ 805 BREN crap w/ STANAG magazine well, and CZ BREN 2
@@sir0herrbatka The history around is not interesting, it is very sad - lack of skill in production of modern assalt rifles in CZUB, corrupted selection procedure and non-existent comparation to other rifles, protectionism, put into service before the development finished, mass and repeated warranty claims. That top handguard cover looks 3d printed. That explains the blue color and the geometric lines on the surface. The bottom cover is textured as you would expect of injected molded plastic.
Mishaco, another great gun channel. I personally would love to see him and ian get together. If only to cover his semi auto builds. Would love to see inside somd if them.
That barred door behind Ian looks like he's trying to keep someone out. Maybe they wouldn't let him review that rare prototype, so he had to break in and make sure no one interrupts. The blue upper handguard is probably from a dye pack that went off when he removed the gun from the shelf it sat on. And I bet the Čzechs are glad they developed the 805 Bren instead, especially with all the praise the Bren 2 gets lately.
Development of LADA took really long, also because russians refused to provide specs of 5,45x39 ammo. So developers basically bought some rounds from russian ocupants, and started reverse engineering of round.
It's kinda weird that CZ decided to make an AK, rather than convert and modernize the VZ 58 or make a new gun, considering their relative inexperience with the AK, since they made their own things.
@@PavelNygryn You forgot to mention: 1 rifle for 3 soldiers, NKVD shooting you in the back and 20 million people getting killed by Stalin himself. During the battles, Soviets didn't have advantage in numbers over Axis - army sizes weren't too different, and many times Soviet troops were poorly positioned and, because of that, outnumbered by Axis troops. Soviet army did suffer more casualties, but mostly during the beginning of the war, because preparations weren't complite, etc. Also, what do you mean by "shoot precisely"? There are a few changes regarding the ergonomics, but the overal mechanism is unchanged. Is it still jiggling like an AK while firing? If yes (which is probably the case), how exactly is it going to "shoot precisely"?
@@alienwizard9765 It's not jiggling nearly as much as AK-74. Probably different tolerances in part manufacturing. "There's plenty of us" refers to top-level commands. Lives of individual soldiers were not considered as values. It's kind of making sense - training and equipments expenses for most of "basic" soldiers were low (if any). Some were actually referred as "untrainable" a still send to combat . Czechoslovakian army never used this approach.
@@PavelNygryn What time period are you referring to? If you are talking about WWII period - as I said, preparations and industrialisation weren't complite. There're many myths regarding the high command during WWII about generals simply sending troops to death, because they didn't care - such things might've happenned sometimes, but definitely not regularly. Moreover, even during that war Soviet army was the only one that was equiped with SMG's in great numbers. It also the second to have assault rifles, and first to equip the whole army with them. If you are referring to post-WWII period, then you have to keep in mind that Soviet Union had to be rebuild after the war. You also have to keep in mind that after Khrushev came to power, USSR have slowly been losing it's economy and production, army have been degrading too. Soviet Union was also preparing to defend against US, so huge amount of equipment had been made. And all things above resulted in huge stockpiles of outdated equipment that were very expensive to replace. About training - as I said, army have been degrading, so by the time Afgan war began, Soviets hadn't used US' expirience with Vietnam war, which resulted in conscripts being sent to fight (some of which weren't well-trained), and not being prepared for . In Vietnam US army had the same problem - preparing for massive conflict with USSR. But they were able to fix it afterwards. These problems have haunted Soviet Union and still haunt Russia as a result: preparing for massive breakthrough, but after realising that things aren't going to happen that way, not being able to change the doctrine. You also have to remember that socialist Czechoslovakia had very powerful economy, in many cases even better production then Soviet Union, and didn't have to maintain as big and as powerful army.
One story I heard is that when they actually started the project before they were given formal access to the 5.45 ammo. They spend a lot of time just to find out the correct dimension of the bullet.

I want this more than the RK-62. THIS would be my blaster, it's got that chunky, blocky, workmanlike look to it and absolutely adore it! The gas assembly at the front is EXACTLY how I'd like mine! I love my NPAP, but if it had that same square gas setup, it would be PERFECT!
Czechnology is my new favorite word I'll never get to use.
I just rang in the new year while watching this video. Happy new year!
Warm greetings from Australia.
vz. is short for vzor which means "pattern". eg. "vz. 58" means "pattern 58".
I love your general knowledge of Czechoslovakian history! Not many people outside of former Czechoslovakia know that it was even under Warsaw pact.
While pattern isn't wrong translation, it also means ''type'', which in this situation is obviously what's meant
Now I knew where designers of the AK-12's top cover locking mechanism took their inspiration from!
Top handgaurd looks 3D printed.
This is the neatest solution to the AK dust cover problem I've seen so far. And once I saw it, it was one of those "Why hasn't anyone thought of THAT before?!?" moments.
I get the feeling it might be "like an AK"
But a Czech would beat you if you told them it's an AK.. (I'm from Czech Republic) (it's an AK)
@@plutotheplanet5341 No, the CZ-2000 is definitely an AK variant, everyone agrees. It's saying that the vz. 58 is an AK that would infuriate people. (I'm also from CZ, if it matters)
This gun is exact opposite of the vz. 58. Vz. 58 is AK on the outside but different in the inside, and CZ-2000 same in the inside and different on the outside.
It’s just a little bit better
(just like Galil) (joke)
That rear sight looks gorgeous with the tubular stock.
A story similar to the Polish wz88 Tantal
Come to think of it, yeah it is. Also kind of a funny coincidence is that his old article on the development of the Tantal is how I first found Forgotten Weapons. I was looking for info after having just gotten a parts kit build Tantal though it had been built using a standard AK-74 receiver so it lacks the left side selector lever.
And same problems to go around USSR pushing to buy (very expensive) license to just build AK-74 and Russian spec ammo. That is why both projects took a while to complete.
So many work hours and people monies wasted to make AK clone. Just to amuse local pride
Czechnology: Actual AK edition. Never thought I'd see a video on the Lada. Thanks, Ian!
We used to be as indipendent as the party allowed...
@Lassi Kinnunen But wasn't Ukraine part of USSR? I'm pretty sure that it was during the Soviet regime when Crimea was given to Ukraine.
Luboš Lier Československo bylo svrchovaným a mezinárodně uznaným státem nehledě na Rudou armádu, co nám tu seděli pod nosem. Ale je pravda, že jsme byli nesvobodní, naprosto souhlasím.
To clarify - We were part of the Warsaw pact, but we never were part of the Soviet union...
God Bless the Czech Republic,
You have more balls than Germany or Austria.
And that so called velvet revolution, was still pay for. Just 20+ years before....
A few years ago, BBC Scotland commissioned a comedy sketch show called "Naked Video". One sketch had an evangelical preacher performing all kinds of miracles: cripples were throwing away their crutches, the blind could see, etc. etc. Then... "Mr__________" (I forget the name) "your Lada has been sold!" The congregation, who had taken the previous miracles in their stride, start to really rejoice!
Greate! I am from Czech Republic and i know this gun of course. But never before i dont have a chance look inside this gun......Thank you very much. :)
You should make a series of videos where you roast guns.

Thanx Ian!
That's a really nice looking VZ. I've always liked the look of the VZ pattern rifles.
One of my favorite AK variants. Would love to get my hands on one, or a parts kit at least, but seems about as likely as winning the lottery. For whatever reason I'm particularly partial to the shape of the rivet heads. Pretty unique.

I don't think I've seen a gun with a rollcage as a sight-protector before 😲
It makes sense tho; you don't need any heavy duty machines to bend a wire, like you need if you want to press or machine it.
And you can still you the standard slider for range.
Nothing brings me back to a happier time than a literal bar across the door. Sure, guns are great for getting them out, but the barred door keeps them out ahead of time.

Could you please show us the current Czech service rifle?
Which one? There are 4 rifles in service at this moment. Sa vz. 58, CZ 805 BREN crap w/ its proprietary magazine, CZ 805 BREN crap w/ STANAG magazine well, and CZ BREN 2
@@DrataTheDrifter I was thinking about CZ 805 BREN but from what you say history behind all of those would be more interesting.
@@sir0herrbatka The history around is not interesting, it is very sad - lack of skill in production of modern assalt rifles in CZUB, corrupted selection procedure and non-existent comparation to other rifles, protectionism, put into service before the development finished, mass and repeated warranty claims. (sorry for broken english)
@@DrataTheDrifter This actually makes me even more interested. Where can I read about, please?

Awsome looking "AK" wish they kept it and continued to develop the design.

That top handguard cover looks 3d printed. That explains the blue color and the geometric lines on the surface. The bottom cover is textured as you would expect of injected molded plastic.
I came here for the witty title
Ian, how often do you want to say "like an AK" in this video?
Ian: Yes.
Looks a lot like Mishas home. Where are the cats?
Who is Misha?
It’s interesting that they went for the AK design and not their own vz58 path
now make beryl wz.96

"Lada" is a Russian woman's name, not Slovakian, I assure you (I am from Slovakia :o))

Yes, but it must be new type (2) not old- old was big fail for czech goverment
One nice thing about owning an AK is that once you understand it you also understand about half the other select fire rifles in the world/
Very flimsy looking AK with no dust cover and that Selector look very fragile . I wouldn't Trust my life with this woman
It's kinda weird that CZ decided to make an AK, rather than convert and modernize the VZ 58 or make a new gun, considering their relative inexperience with the AK, since they made their own things.
So the Czechs basically made an AK-74?
But with ability to shoot precisely. Small country, small army, no place for Soviet "Hurrah" actions in style of "There's plenty of us" (нас много)
Česko xDD joo
Czechnology and a Bolt-action front post, I fucking love that
