I love June's curly mane! I remember Bree's like that when she was June's age. I hope you can always keep Bree and June. Being full sisters, they will be a gorgeous team all hitched up!❤ The Belgian stud is handsome. I was kinda hoping Lady wouldn't breed again at her age though it really isn't our place to comment on that decision.😘
Your horses are beautiful and so well cared for. My heart sunk a little when you said you may not keep the filly’s. I thought you would keep all that you bred. But it’s a working farm and I understand the need to sell. I’m already attached to Bree and June! Lol❤❤❤
If you think about Jim and Brenda possibly selling June and Bree down the road. Some potential purchasers will be obtaining a young well trained horse with great start in life, to go forward and develop into a great working horse for their personal enjoyment . In the World of Horses, If you keep them all you can eventually become what we call horse poor and the cost overhead also increases along with the work involved. Jim also only needs so many draft horses to farm and log for sure.
Had a good laugh when Skip, the dog, ran straight at a chicken in the garden and the chicken, knowing Skip, actually ducked and the dog jumped over the bird! Brenda told Skip to be sweet when Skip started nosing the chicken. That was really funny!
marystanek7533. Yes! that Hopscotch-Over-the-Hen move was hilarious! Also Skippy leaping through soaking wet, tall grass and also Jim getting his face Skippy- washed while trying to talk on video...🤣 That Pooch is Trouble. But a million laffs!

Yes, Lady looks in good health and vet says it's good to go. Horses are bred every year, wild or domestic, as long they are healthy, they WILL stand for a stallion regardless in what we want or don't want. Good idea to get her bred to a Belgian to keep the breed pure. If someone wanted one of your Belgian or Suffolk horse, I'm sure you would sell the foals while training the colts for farm and logging work. Nothing wrong with a bit of extra income for the farm. Brenda your flowers are gorgeous!
Hey Jim and Brenda, Another wonderful video . June is doing extremely well with her training. Your methods are excellent exposing her to the other horses in their stalls is great, and then leading her into the sawmill was great and watching June step over the 4 x 4 timber was perfect. The more you handle and expose the young horse to different situations . The trust bond between the trainer and the filly or colt increases. Breeding Lady back to a registered Belgian Stallion is a great plan. It's wonderful that Lady and Baron produced a couple of fine Suffolk Punch / Belgian Crosses. With a few years they should end up with 2 fine driving and possible saddle mares. Have a peaceful weekend . I hope your new drain tile does its job with all rain that New State and Ontario and Quebec Canada have been experiencing over the last week or so.
As for breeding Lady again I cannot comment , I am not qualified, what I would like to see is Bree and June all trained up 4 or 5 year old and working on the farm and in the woods, what a great team they would make 2 full sisters, they would be magnificent
My system for breeding depended on the age of the mare. Carrying a fool for the third consecutive year is asking a lot for an older mare. I would wait and breed her in late March or early April. Allowing the fool to be born before the fly season. And before the heat of summer.

It would be an interesting minute or two ending to a video. Breeding back Lady to a Belgian is a great idea! People are going to be upset when and if you sell any of the horses in your videos. However, as a farmer, that’s part of how you make a living. As a kid growing up on a farm, I always felt sad when a calf, cow or any animal was sold. It was especially hard when we sold the beagle puppies our beagle had every year. My sister and I would always cry when one was sold. We were never told not to be sad, but we came to learn that was how we made a living on the farm.

Lady/Jim babies are a valuable addition to the working horse population and so, assuming there are no health issues, I look forward to more LadyBabies! 💛💛Thank you, what you share is something very interesting. For me this is so special, that I have to watch it until the end. Best wishes to you. May you always have health and beautiful days👍👍👍👍
I think the question of using mules or horses comes down to personal preference in some cases. My maternal grandfather farmed with mules and my paternal grandfather farmed with horses.
I think the Belgian stud is quite handsome! that should give a visually attractive foal, but also the builds are very complimentary. He looks a little thicker and shorter than Lady, which is fine, as you said. Definitely getting a platinum mane though. They look like a good cross, I like it! Looking forward to seeing the baby. Hope you keep June and Bree, but that's years from now. I like the Suffolk/Belgian cross, but with the Suffolks needing more genetics due to underpopulation crossing them isn't the best for them. But Belgian Punch sounds neat anyway.
Well she does produce great folds Jim, but the old girl does need a bit of a rest, just to kick her heels and gallop around the pastures for a year or so!
It's spelled foal and you must understand lady is a working draft horse and she can earn part of her keep by raising a nice foal. Jim and Benda Gordon make their living from the farm and their farming and logging and sawmill operations.
It's a typo, so chill out. Lady does need a rest, she's older and works her butt off. Besides, he has two fine fillies who he might eventually sell or breed. And, pray tell, how do the geldings earn their keep? According to your theory, they don't. Ridiculous. Lady works every bit as hard as the boys, plus having babies.
It's great for Jim Gordon to take the time out of his busy work schedule to sit and have a coffee and address some the questions of the viewers. It can be very informative.
PG here, Thank you for all the Horse Progress videos. What a delight! All the children drivig teams of those small little horses. It was amazing. Up to the Mule, Huge animals! 8 team Mules I think. It was breath taking. ***Question*** If people really want their question to been seen Use the number 8 shift so you get a star, 3 in front of the Question 3 stars in the end. It makes the cntent bold. ***Do Those huge Mules pull more weight than the suffux, (I think) He was 2,210 pounds of pure muscle. Jim drove this horse the first day and I think most of the time?*** I am so glad Lady is bred again. She is a magnificiant horse and a good protective Mother. So much to say but I don't want to bore anyone. since July 4 I have been so delighted with all your videos. (Well, I always am. But this one a once in a life time educational lessons. I watch an horse auction channel and often wonder what do people do with tiny horses, donkeys, etc. . Now I know!
I think the curl in June's mane is cute as heck. Something I asked about a while back, when you walk June, wouldn't it be beneficial to give her the command STEP? It seems to me that she would be learning that the word meant for her to walk. I've never trained a horse, so I don't know if it would work, but it was a thought. Another interesting video, thank you.
Brenda, I think God must have so much fun coloring horses. So many colors and patterns. And the stud is so pretty with the contrast of dark body with blond tail and mane.
Oh my gosh Brenda....Your garden and what you have done all around your greenhouse is a most beautiful Magazine Quality picture. Skippy is having a great time and is almost drowning himself. How often are you suppose to breed?
🧐 excellent update/ info really enjoyed training June, breeding thoughts etc, might be worth answering questions like this format, seems like you’re more comfortable , Jim/ Brenda have a great weekend 👏👍👋
June bug! ❤Sorry Jim. I just can't help it! She's so cute! The new stallion is very sturdy looking. I love his color! Best wishes for Lady being bred! I hope it's drying out there. Skippy seems to love it!
Does Bree get to be with June at all or when will they get to be pals? June is so beautiful and she never whinnied for momma. Skip is so fun to watch, he's a clown. You should probably ween him off the coffee though 😊 Have a great weekend!
We had mules on farm back and until late 60s.There time was over. We had one I remember called Mary .We two kids would hitch her to a tobacco "truck" and she would lead us around part of farm and go right back to stable. She a slow walker which is just what we wanted.
Great video Unless ahe does a lot of changing It looks to me I am looking at a Belgium like her Momma And I very hope you keep her and Bree They would make a great team
Thanks and greetings to J and B, Love the channel! X We breed Clydesdales. We often give the mare a rest for a year before breeding again but if Lady is doing OK then should be OK. Jim and Brenda, as some others on here have mentioned, I need to say something about the weather and hope you understand am only speaking out as am concerned for the future of farming, our health, kids future and planet. The weather is being tampered with and is happening all across the world. I am in Norway, Europe and is starting to be admitted by "authorities" under pretence of Climate BS. We have worked outdoors all our lives, mostly commercially with Clydesdales. Due to long term illness I can't work the horses now so can only now focus on breeding. We had never heard or noticed this cloud manipulation before, but then saw about 4 years ago a strange substance landed onto outdoor raincoats, and a new tarpaulin where it made white marks and has never come off! Can I ask those on here that also realise what is going on to make contact with me directly somehow so we can connect to try stop this. Happening everyday here and has either rained or snowed every other day for nearly a year! Very difficult here too to make Hay. Only get 2 dry days then it pours down, which is not long enough to make good hay. We see the spraying start in the mountains where we are, white lines which spread out and get wider then turn the sky White. We used to have Blue Skies and Sunsets. Like most busy folks, I think Jim and Brenda we are too busy/distracted to have time to stop and look up for long enough to see what is happening but hope soon realise as it is a very dangerous and serious situation, we all need to do something about it asap so can keep ourselves, our animals, crops and environment healthy. Official information from FOI where UK Gov say they told people in a radio broadcast about 12 years ago! I can share this factual information if anyone wants to see it. This video talks about it: ua-cam.com/video/jTp5hTDbPm0/v-deo.htmlsi=QPmSU0Tl3mLFGQO9 So as it is now coming out what they are doing, I suggest we all that love life, help each other to get it stopped. Hope I don't get trolled on here, just that I care. Thanks :)
Hi Jim & Brenda......Boy, way too much rain water but Skippy sure is having fun running in it! He's so funny........has a great ability of entertaining himself. Little June is so very cute......makes me want to hug & squeeze her all over, which would probably freak her out! Oh goodie - Lady's gonna have another baby....Hooray - she,'s such a good mama! God bless.....😊❤😊
I think Skip might be part duck. I'm glad you are breeding her to a Belgian this time. Young'n has really gotten interested in rare breeds and declining endangered breeds. Apparently Belgian and Percheron numbers are also declining. Clydes and Shires were already low, and of course, Suffolks are very endangered. I hate to see these good, hard knocking, honest, blue collar breeds of horses declining. I'm glad you will be bringing another full Belgian into the world. June is coming along really nicely. Easy explanation: silage or haylage is sauerkraut for cattle. 🙂 If you ferment it, it will keep. If you don't ferment it and it is too wet, it will rot or heat up and catch fire. If you want your horses to stand, let them spend a lot of time standing tied, work them hard enough that they actually get tired and find standing to be a reward, and don't hang on their mouths once they stop. Many people teach their horses to dance around by not letting up on their mouths.
Hello ! I am a new and casual viewer but I do love horses and follow quite a few sites. Personally, if Lady was my horse......I would give her a break. Expecting a new foal is exciting but growing a foal is a lot of work for the mare. 💖
I have a riding and driving mare by a Cleveland Bay stallion (that once stood in VA) and out of a Belgian mare (also in VA). She must have been a nice Belgian mare like Lady. Wish I had two of them!
When you mentioned mules it brought to mind my granddad. He had a farm in central Illinois in the early part of the 20th century. He had some beautiful draft mares and he bred them to a very large white jackass. He loved to tell me all about buying that jack in Missouri and naming him The Missouri Monarch. I guess these mares produced large mules that he sold to the Amish farmers in the area. By the time I was born his favorite mares and The Monarch were long gone so all I got were the stories. He still bred draft horses but the mule business was over. I was born on that farm and lived the early part of my life there.
Well Jim you speak about selling some of your horses someday . That,s fine with me as farmers sell livestock all the time , but you are going too need to vet the potential new owner as a true horse lover. Otherwise some of your loyal viewers may want to tar and feather you . Cheers
Jim you drive me crazy sometimes .Your title is should we breed Lady again (Belgian mare) . Then we learn in the video that she was already bred to a Belgian stallion . Future looks like too many work horses and not enough work .But that is just my opinion .3 foals will need training . Plus 3 working teams now . 8 horses now with one more next year . Am I correct .Gosh your channel is fun and 100k subscribers. Many more I hope .Cheers Chips 😊😊😊
Suggestion, when you see a question you may wish to answer one day, perhaps take a screen shot of it and save it to a file/folder specifically for the purpose of being able to keep tabs on them. That way you can delete them once answered (or pop them into an "answered" folder). I do this a lot for all sorts of things I want to keep track of, but don't have time nor inclination to write down on a list.
At the breeding farm I worked at years ago they would breed twice then give the mare a year off, up to age 15. Producing foals is a drain on a mares reserves and a down year allows replenishment. Also after 15 there is an increase in risks with foaling, kinda like women over 40. It means you just have to be more careful, watchful, and more frequent vet checks.
Brinda may be on to something; I hadn't concurred the wider walkway in making it easier to get around and Work in your Garden or mine when I have one. Planting things in too Close draws Bugs, Todes and Frogs, witch draw Snakes. and I'm almost always stepping on thing I don't want to step on.
Wow Very nice-looking Landscaping Job around the Green House. Yes, I think I would breed Lady back to Baron again They through Nice-looking Colts. Having Back up Horses is Alwas a good idea in my mind, any way!
Im not the person to ask if Lady needs to be bred.. I dont have any qualifications.. To see June and Bree together would be fun... I would let ve yo see them play. God bless 🌹🙏❤️
I've been following your family for a couple years and enjoy the channel. But this is just my opinion--those foals of Lady may live longer than you two. I have see too many horses going to auction and then slaughter on many sites that I wonder what you have planned for them. There's not many people anymore who live your lifestyle and the Amish don't have a great reputation with their animals. I do love how your family takes care of all your animals.
Actually an informed decision would be to talk to your vet regarding breeding Lady again. She did have a slight problem this past time with the after birth. It would be a good idea to have June's umbilical area checked by the vet to make sure it's not going to be a hernia.
Great Video Jim and Brenda on the Q&A would Like To Know The Age of Bill You could let Me Know I'm Curious about it How Much Longer He's going to be Useful to the Farm and Logging. Blessings And Please Be Safe ✌️
In my opinion, you have two lovely foals out of Lady, I would not breed her back. SO many horses end up in the slaughter pipeline these days, once they leave your farm, you have no control of their fate, it's sad.
We need more good horses and jim you produce them! I am not there to see the affect on Lady which is very important. I know it is not necessarily hard on the mare hrr age. Those are the considerations i would look at. And now you answer the question! 😊
Not that my opion really matters but your decision makes good sense. I suggest when Abby finishes her house she could start a barn. Trudy and Abby could work with at least non working young stock
Here on coastal N.C we have gotten some good smoking rain which expected through the weekend. I was hoping to go skydiving Saturday but now foe 2nd week in a row the rain has prohibited.
Skippy sure has the zoomies!! 😂 June is already getting big!! She looks very different from Bree! She's a good girl!! 🙂 Lady's stud is habdsome! I hope she's bred! She's just a good mom!! ❤ Skip is getting so big!! Yes, he wants to be the center of attention!! Lol!! Always love your videos! Thank you!! 💕
Jim, where did you get that rain gauge? I like the looks of that. My Dad always said, "once the corn is in the ground we will take all the rain we can get".
They can breed in their twenties, but you gotta keep them full when they are aged. No great shakes, no washing, no diapers, foal slung in a hammock, one whicker keeps them together. She loves mothering.
I remember when Bree was that age she got black spots too where her baby fur was wearing off. June is so cute and behaves well.

Well she does produce great folds Jim, but the old girl does need a bit of a rest, just to kick her heels and gallop around the pastures for a year or so!
foals?
It's spelled foal and you must understand lady is a working draft horse and she can earn part of her keep by raising a nice foal. Jim and Benda Gordon make their living from the farm and their farming and logging and sawmill operations.
It's a typo, so chill out. Lady does need a rest, she's older and works her butt off. Besides, he has two fine fillies who he might eventually sell or breed. And, pray tell, how do the geldings earn their keep? According to your theory, they don't. Ridiculous. Lady works every bit as hard as the boys, plus having babies.
Production line like battery hens
A Q&A session at the tail end of the video would be wonderful.
we love it when you sit on the frontporch with morning coffeeand just plain explain a couple questions
It's great for Jim Gordon to take the time out of his busy work schedule to sit and have a coffee and address some the questions of the viewers. It can be very informative.
Thank you for all the information you gave us today.
Hey there, how are you doing today, I hope you're having a lovely day over there?
I watch an horse auction channel and often wonder what do people do with tiny horses, donkeys, etc. . Now I know!
Skippy is enjoying wet ground!
Hey there, how are you doing today, I hope you're having a lovely day over there?
Oh my gosh Brenda....Your garden and what you have done all around your greenhouse is a most beautiful Magazine Quality picture. Skippy is having a great time and is almost drowning himself. How often are you suppose to breed?
Love seeing you work with the foals. Thank you. It will be fun watching the two girls grow and how big they will be.
June is doing so good
🧐 excellent update/ info really enjoyed training June, breeding thoughts etc, might be worth answering questions like this format, seems like you’re more comfortable , Jim/ Brenda have a great weekend 👏👍👋
June bug! ❤Sorry Jim. I just can't help it! She's so cute! The new stallion is very sturdy looking. I love his color! Best wishes for Lady being bred! I hope it's drying out there. Skippy seems to love it!
Your horses 🐴 are so beautiful and adorable and amazing love them 😊😊from Newfoundland Canada 🇨🇦
Lady is a beautiful mare and appears to thrive on motherhood.
Does Bree get to be with June at all or when will they get to be pals? June is so beautiful and she never whinnied for momma. Skip is so fun to watch, he's a clown. You should probably ween him off the coffee though 😊 Have a great weekend!
Hey there, how are you doing today, I hope you're having a lovely day over there?
Brenda, Ive got the same issue in Rochester. No rain. It keeps north of us and soaks you guys. I would love for some of to drop here
Hey there, how are you doing today, I hope you're having a lovely day over there?
The same in Northeast Ohio.....
We had mules on farm back and until late 60s.There time was over.
We had one I remember called Mary .We two kids would hitch her to a tobacco "truck" and she would lead us around part of farm and go right back to stable. She a slow walker which is just what we wanted.
It would be interesting to see some comparison pictures of Bree at the age June is now.
Great video
Unless ahe does a lot of changing
It looks to me I am looking at a Belgium like her Momma
And I very hope you keep her and Bree
They would make a great team
Thanks :)
Ok glad a question I had raised has been answered. Lady.
Hey there, how are you doing today, I hope you're having a lovely day over there?
Gosh I love you guys. Your videos make my day. Love Skip!
I believe the first video i saw of yours was threshing oats.
Ive been hooked ever since.
Hey there, how are you doing today, I hope you're having a lovely day over there?
That is one heck of a lot of rain.
Hello ! I am a new and casual viewer but I do love horses and follow quite a few sites. Personally, if Lady was my horse......I would give her a break. Expecting a new foal is exciting but growing a foal is a lot of work for the mare. 💖
Skip is a tremendous asset to your videos!
I have a riding and driving mare by a Cleveland Bay stallion (that once stood in VA) and out of a Belgian mare (also in VA). She must have been a nice Belgian mare like Lady. Wish I had two of them!
Like your videos and your working with your horses you and your family awesome 😊
Hey there, how are you doing today, I hope you're having a lovely day over there?
if it isn't too much of a risk to lady's health, it seems like she produces very nice offspring. would say yes.
Good manner with humans are so important, congrat!
Hey there, how are you doing today, I hope you're having a lovely day over there?
Hey there, how are you doing today, I hope you're having a lovely day over there?
Well Jim you speak about selling some of your horses someday . That,s fine with me as farmers sell livestock all the time , but you are going too need to vet the potential new owner as a true horse lover. Otherwise some of your loyal viewers may want to tar and feather you . Cheers
June is a pretty filly. Striking markings on her head, and that gorgeous ombre curly tail.
Hey there, how are you doing today, I hope you're having a lovely day over there?
Oh my heart sank a little when you mention selling Bri and June. But I know some times that just happens .Love your show
i hope your lovely garden is ok. i like raised beds myself.
Hey there, how are you doing today, I hope you're having a lovely day over there?
look at that mane on June...wow..lov ya'll from South Alabama.
Hey there, how are you doing today, I hope you're having a lovely day over there?
I’m in Illinois and we have had terrible storms with many tornadoes. Took a lot of old trees.
It does seem tornado alley moved into our neck of the woods doesn't it.
@@SamDoe-zn3tu Some years we get more, and some we get less. Weather runs in cycles from year to year.
That Belgian stud lookes nice and litle June is becoming quite a little lady!
Falls on deaf ears, she’s already been bred…😑
You chose a beautiful stud for lady, very handsome ❤
Skippy sure has the zoomies!! 😂
June is already getting big!! She looks very different from Bree! She's a good girl!! 🙂
Lady's stud is habdsome! I hope she's bred! She's just a good mom!! ❤
Skip is getting so big!! Yes, he wants to be the center of attention!! Lol!! Always love your videos! Thank you!! 💕
Mafia almost time to do a June weigh-in
Skippy is having a ball in the water.
😂
Loved the video 😘👍🏻💕💕🙏🏻🙏🏻
We could use 9" inches of rain out her in Wester Colorado, it so dry!
She is another pretty filly. Do both Bree and June have a face blaze ? Thank you for sharing.🐴🐴
Rain,What is that ?Haven’t seen any in quite sometime in NM
Jim, where did you get that rain gauge? I like the looks of that. My Dad always said, "once the corn is in the ground we will take all the rain we can get".
Breed Lady again as she is a great mother. Get another from Barron while she is able. Maybe some day you can get a pure bred Suffolk bred to Barron.
if lady is borderline too old ...no. i might give her a year off otherwise & let her enjoy june.
They can breed in their twenties, but you gotta keep them full when they are aged. No great shakes, no washing, no diapers, foal slung in a hammock, one whicker keeps them together. She loves mothering.
Hey there, how are you doing today, I hope you're having a lovely day over there?
What finish did you put on your picnic table?
nice equines
