Why Code Veronica actually NEEDS a remake

  • I am making this video to lend my voice to amplify the call of the middle child of the series. In case you didn’t read the title or see the thumbnail, that entry in the franchise is Resident Evil Code Veronica. Now here’s the thing, unlike the other remakes this isn’t really a case of wanting better graphics. Resident Evil 2 and 3, and now 4 didn’t need remakes. They were amazing, for sure, but they were already good. What makes code veronica different in this regard is… well, it has a lot of problems.

If you love it so much then why would it even need a remake? 🤷🏻‍♂️ See what I mean?
Personally, I didn’t enjoy the original so I’d like to see a reimagining just to see if they could actually make it playable (Don’t worry, that’ll never happen).
However the problem with that is people like me would be looking for more of a reimagining whereas you’d probably want the RE1 remake treatment ie. Almost exactly the same but with some interesting expansions here and there.
Why would Capcom risk alienating people when they can just remake RE4 which is almost universally praised? RE4 doesn’t need a remake but it’ll sure as hell sell more copies and garner more attention.
The original RE4 was basically the gateway drug for a huge 3rd wave of resident evil fans. 1st wave was the original, 2nd wave of fans was RE2 & 3 when gaming was becoming more mainstream

Do you mean they should reimagine crap games into better ones? 🤔
They haven’t done that yet. The original RE1, 2 and 3 were successful and generally well received games, with casual gamers and die hard fans.
Their success is what strengthened their candidacy for a remake.
People recognise “oh hey that’s that game I liked way back when”. They have positive associations with the brand that the recognise and that’s incredibly powerful. I locked in a pre-order for RE4 straight away like a trained lab rat hitting a food button 😂.

I have been saying they need a CV remake since they announced remaking 3. It's important to the story line overall, as Uroboros was composed with T, G, T-Veronica, and Plagas. Not to mention the huge impact the Ashford's had on Umbrella overall. It would be great for them to give more background on the Twins, or the Ashfords in general. When Capcom decided RE4 was next to get a remake, I was both excited and livid for various and probably obvious reasons. I am glad that I'm not the only one who wants to see CV get a overhaul.

Doesn’t matter how long you’ve been saying it.
If you want your wants/needs to be taken into consideration then maybe become a major Capcom shareholder. That’s who they need to satisfy first and foremost, not the fleeting wishes of consumers 🤷🏻‍♂️.
Welcome to the grown-ups’ table son 🥃🧐
Look…You’re still gonna purchase the RE4 remake so they’re gonna be proven right in the end anyway. The same goes for most people.
Why then, should Capcom risk remaking CV that had a mixed reception and lacklustre sales when they can have a slam dunk by doing RE4 which is a positively associated title with fans and casual gamers alike that’s been ported year after year with repeated success?
Wanting something as a fan doesn’t mean it’s a lucrative idea for the people that have to turn that into a [mostly virtual] reality for you.
Capcom staff need a return on their investment to fund future research into better games down the road, not to mention paying their staff, preserving their stock value, ordering in sushi and cocaine for the office party, and so on

      @CursedWheelieBin Рік тому

The so-called story is never mentioned or brought up in any other mainline entry in the series after that. Maybe it’s glossed over in some niche file somewhere.
The “story” of these games is the weakest aspect of them, but if its presented in an interesting way then that can be enough.
For example, the background environments and fixed camera angles from the original trilogy (particularly 2 & 3) were great at setting the tone and showing much of the aftermath of a city that’s basically out of control, eating itself alive and burning to the ground.
Cheesy dialogue and boring unskippable cutscenes played 2nd fiddle to the tense atmosphere that was built up through actually playing the game. That environmental storytelling was genius and a hard thing to replicate.
The Arkham games did this too. The story isn’t anything groundbreaking but it’s presented in such a creative and interest way that it makes up for it.

This was such a well done video. Never knew you went to school for game design! It shows in this video. I loved the points that you brought up and agree with each one of them. There’s really so much that can be done with this game. I think there’s a big enough fan base for the original and I think even the newer fans would be stoked on a remake because it might be a game they’ve never played or even heard of. Could be a completely new and fresh experience for a lot of new RE fans while also having capcom not have to come up with an entirely new storyline. Easy money for them and a well deserved remake for us RE fans, win-win situation in my eyes.

You know, my cousin and I were always talking about how they could do a remake of code Veronica. Not just flesh out the characters but also make the island more interesting. For example: have the prison, military base, airport, and Ashford residents more spread out, and maybe give the island maintenance tunnels so Claire and Steve can move around the island without running into to many problems except when you got the tyrant, Alfred, and the Gulp Worm pursuing them. Also speaking of pursuer characters, I think the tyrant, gulp worm, Alfred, Alexia, and Nosferatu might make decent pursuers of Claire, Steve, Chris, and Wesker to a decent extent.

I love the story line, the characters used, the continuation of Claires RE story, the locations and enemies. It does something similar that RE2 did with Ada; built up a mysterious character that you meet early on to the point that you care about them and then has them meet an emotional end. There was plenty wrong with the game in gameplay controls, graphics being pitch black in most areas and some of the voice acting being meh, but I would absolutely enjoy seeing an updated remake giving this game the love it deserves.

I won't argue that this game, which has some killer locations and an awesome final boss, in addition to playing as BOTH of the Redfield siblings, definitely needs a graphics glow-up, at the least. Alfred and Alexia have the potential to look stunning, not to mention Steve's monster form after being infected by one of Alexia's tentacles. And of course, Wesker getting a formal reintroduction to the Remake series (his first since RE: 0's added Wesker mode and the Remake/fully realized edition of RE1).

I'm right there with you - CV is a cult classic. I remember when I was a kid experiencing RE2 for the first time, watching my older friends play it in the dark and being absolutely astonished. Years later, the same friend introduced me to CV on his Dreamcast. Everything was so interesting about it - playing as Claire, the life meter on the memory card, I especially remembering depositing all the weapons in order to go into the alley. Years later, I would go on a pilgrimage myself playing the game and yes the game was off-kilter. The weird antagonist doubling as Alexia, Steve the annoying side character, etc. But it had the best music for the save room EVER, you literally cried when Steve turned into the monster, there was a lot of memorable things about this game. In my opinion, this game has more replay value than RE3 - which had a lot of hype back in the day but in my opinion was a huge let down. Favorite part of CV is when you revisit the mansion.

One of my pet peeves with CV is how they started to introduce more anime-esque action sequences. Up until then, it was clearly established that: Virus = mutation = bad. But with Wesker suddenly just being able to have superpowers with seemingly no negative side-effects, it threw that whole concept out the window. A lot of the characters also come across as exaggerated caricatures more than anything, like Steve and Alfred.

I remember thinking Wesker’s moves were awesome in RE5 but I was a bag of hormones barely out of my teens at the time so any stylish action shlock had my attention.
Question is, when they reintroduce Wesker do they:
      a) tone it down with the Matrix stuff?
      b) embrace it and just go crazy?
      c) somehow present him in a totally new and grounded way? 😬
At this point I don’t see Capcom taking any risks with him and will probably keep him as the OTT Saturday morning cartoon eeeeeeevil villain who wants to turn the world into….black goo or something? I can’t remember

The exaggerated character thing is more of a classic RE issue, I can't take RE1/PS1 Wesker, Steve, Irons and Alfred seriously at all. With Steve I was like "Bruh take your goofy ass over to Sonic or Megaman", Irons sounds like a Scooby Doo villain from the 70s and RE1 Wesker begging Chris to stop laughing at him is the funniest thing to me. it's why I think Wesker hates Chris and beat the shit out of him in CVX.

No way bud. Its 2022. They'd never portray a cross dresser as anything but positive now. And they'd never have a good guy say anything negative about one. The "cross dressing freak" line would have to come from a cis gender straight white man if at all.

I don’t want a remake if they emasculate it and make it politically correct. I’m also not sure if Capcom is willing to deal with the SJW Americans on Twitter butthurt about its depiction of a cross-dresser if they don’t make it pc.

I agree with everything you said. Code Veronica needs that remake. Especially the plane with the tyrant part. And the difficulty settings. And health and ammo. Currently replaying Code Veronica. Had to stop and take a break for a bit because I’m having issues on the Tyrant. I really hope Capcom listens and gives the fans that.

Update: Thanks to watching this video. And Kai’s video on the BOW rounds immediately after. I beat the Tyrant on the plane in Code Veronica very easily and quickly. Took him out in less than 2 minutes by doing the method Kai suggested. Thanks, Kai! 😊

I've been screaming from the rooftops that my 2nd favorite RE game needs a remake. I love Code Veronica so much!

I also love Code: Veronica. One of the main reasons I love it so much is because Claire and Chris are in it. Also the Japanese version on the Dreamcast did have a difficulty selection. Be warned though you'll need a GameShark to play the Japanese version on a North American Dreamcast which means you have to select a certain code in order to play it.

Those are all good ideas and I agree it should be remade. There is depth there that they can build upon.

Glad I wasn't the only one that died constantly at that Chris part. So frustrating I stop playing for like a week lol. Ending up beating it though. I hope they remake it, but sadly I doubt it.

I bought Code Veronica a couple months ago to play it on my flat screen to see what it would be like and I really was impressed at just how awesome it was to go back and to now see it on a big TV but my only complaint so far is that you better play this strategically as hell cuz I'm at a part where I have to run past the bander snatches in the courtyard and on this skinny little platform and I have no damn bullets left and no health so I'm basically crawling and it's impossible so I'm going to have to restart the entire game, so if you play Code Veronica watch a walkthrough or something to help you out because there's no feeling worse than having to restart an entire game after putting so much time into it because you are stuck and there's no way to fix it

I’ve never thought of Alfred and Alexia being a dark reflection of Chris and Claire. That’s a very good observation

Yeah, that was an interesting observation. His "transphobia" gibberish wasn't though.

The comparison of Chris and Claire against Alfred and Alexia is literally in the game.
Alexia, "It is almost time, you genetically-inferior siblings!"
It's not subtle. You didn't have to dig deep into subtext to figure this out.
