To each their own. For me why i didnt like this movie was one bugging question "who was this made for?" It's too dark a subject for kids. It's too stupid humor for adults. It's not clever and the jokes fall flat. I think if the kid started off bad, like his first 2 wishes were selfish, but during his 3rd wish he realizes there are more important things in life like he wishes for his friend or parents to be eternally happy, i would have liked the movie a lot better. Plus the ending with the brother was a cheap pull at the heart strings. It didn't feel earned. Why not the message of "we've been through a lot, but we have each other"? The movie just didn't know what it was or what it wanted to be. This was a sad low for the farrelly brothers.
I thought it was funny until the end when Spence comes back to life. For someone who had a brother literally die this year, this sort of ending is just wrong. Maybe you just don’t get it, but that is just not good for kids to even think it could become true.
I'm not overly religeous but damn, when did Santa and all this become about Satan? Just not cool, and Jack Black was never a very good actor to begin with. He used a shock jock type behavior to get famous, but he's just done now. This movie was just a really bad idea.
I wouldn’t go so far as to say this movie is the end of Jack Black. I’d never heard of it until today and watched out of sheer boredom. Just a Parampunt direct to streaming. My grown son came by as I was watching and asked if it was good. I told him I fast forward a lot of it. Which I rarely do. The ending was just awful though. Definitely not a kid’s movie nor an adult’s either.
@TheBlueFuton it's a cute family film. Very relatable as a person with dyslexia with a kid that has it as well. Who cares about the message. Not everything needs to have a heartfelt message. Not only that my kid and the kid in the movie look the same and are like the exact same kid.

And my deepest sympathies to anyone that worked on it. To get up early and work long hours on this trash. And especially shame on jack black for drawing people in to watch it.

I simply cannot believe the same people who gave us comedy gold in the 90s produced this scum. The cringe acting and story and dialogue and camera work and effects and everything were high school production level quality. It is astounding people greenlit this script. Funny how it came true years later after her passing. Christmas is a pagan holiday. Nowhere in the bible does it say that Christ Jesus was born on December 25. It's about gifts and not of God.

This will be a yearly viewing for me and my family. It's a fun family film and you people should really ligthen up and see that. It's just a movie. Who cares what you think. Movie critic should be an ancient job title by now. I'm glad you made this review. My sister was killed in a car accident, so I turned the film off and had a meltdown when that plot point happened 😭😭😭

But I bet you liked It's a Wonderful Life about a guy who commits suicide, but gets saved by an angel.

Sends the wrong message to kids. It paints a Devil with morals and sends the message that if you pray to the devil you will get what you want.

The movie is a traditional story of a clever peasant outwitting a demon. It's no more Satanic than the Devil Went Down to Georgia.

I just watched, and enjoyed. It felt nostalgic of an eighties kids horror movie, without the blood or gore factor, which would have been great.
