We're about to get similar ones for our Jeep wrangler. Because we get flashed constantly, and other drivers prefer our brights over the low beams..soon they'll stop flashing us and leaving their brights on. 😂

I have the 2017 Explorer Police Interceptor Unit, commonly known as the PIU.
The reason (I was told) that they have the different bulb for the brights is because when the police are using the wig-wags it shows up better.
Obviously, I don't need the wig-wags either so I am about to change to the LED to match the low beams lights.
Ford and their bright ideas (to keep their mechanics working) you need to take the Setina and the front bumper off.
That makes sense as to why they made them different.
Easier to remove the headlight assembly? No sir, that is most definitely far more difficult. You have to remove the bumper/grill assembly in order to remove the headlight assembly and that is just a huge pain. I just got finished installing my FORD Raptor grill, some additional lights next to the stock driving/fog lights and an ARMORDILLO Bull Bar and I gotta say, the longest part of the job was getting the bumper/grill assembly off and back on again! Sorry, I'm still a bit surly about it as I only did it last weekend, lol. It looks pretty awesome though, so totally worth the headaches!
But now I'm thinking I'll have to pickup some of those bulbs as well, they look SO much better and brighter than stock!
Thanks for letting us know! I had a feeling the bumper had to come off. I've had it off once before to install my push bar but didn't bother looking at the headlight assembly then.

I totally agree, don't do that unless replacing the full assembly 😅 it's time consuming and I've done it twice (push bar install).

I think that there are some interior lights, and the spot light on the mirrors. Otherwise I think you're pretty close to all LED!
It looks so much better with LEDs 🙌🏼

I didn't have that problem. It was just plug and play for me. There might be resistors or a plug that you can buy to fix that issue
I would guess the halogen bulb high beams are a cost cutting/saving measure... Each headlight assembly is insanely expensive with only the low beam LEDs... I can't imagine the cost for low and high...!
You're probably right. They have to make it look good most the time and can skimp on the not as used functions, such as high beams.
This upgrade is totally worth it!
How you get working the led strip around the headlight my piu have that two off??
I've heard the PIU headlight does not have the LEDs. So you'd have to get civilian headlight, which is what my explorer is.
How do you change the low beams in the 2016 ford explorer ?
I did a little research and it appears that the low beam bulb, is a built in LED. There seems to be an issue with the computer module that is on the bottom of the headlight assembly. Where is causes the low beam to not work.
Removal of the headlight assembly requires the bumper to be removed and I have a video showing the process of removing the bumper.

I have a 2016 ford police Utility what are the white light on the outer headlight it self and how do I get them to turn on my interceptor only turns on the headlight not the light bar around the headlight
It maybe a difference between the two models, interceptor and civilian explorers.
But I think you can check under the settings on the dashboard. I believe you navigate to Vehicle, Lighting, Daytime Running Lights, and check it to turn it on. That's what turned mine on, hopefully this helps!

Did you change the low beams too or just high? And are the low beams factory?
Just the high beams, my low beams are built into the headlight assembly. It requires a lot more work than just replacing a bulb.
I have a 2016 FPIU and the high beams are TRASH! I will be changing out the bulbs soon…

How does the LED keep cool with that rubber cap on it?
Good question, it has a built in fan that keeps it cool
@@ArcticVette but that rubber cap is supposed to keep moisture out, so if it's watertight, it's probably not allowing air to flow freely
I'll have to find out. So far these are working great and I haven't had any troubles with them 🙌🏼
