Great song and one of many brilliant songs. On 2/6/2020 Algiers played the Village Underground Venue, London, England. They were superb, Awesome in fact. These guys are really talented musicians, building a greater fanbase daily.
@@maddiegeier Yes, very impractical, especially given the location of the jack. This was the Soviet's first attempt at an electric guitar, and it shows. Mine has a truss rod, but it does nothing. 2 bolt neck, only one bolt actually held it on. The shape of the neck is bad too, very tiring to play. Having said all that, it's not without its charms.

"Why did you choose Algiers as a name? There are resonances with the postcolonial struggle with France - was that deliberate? I was wondering if that connected with what you said in a recent interview about "a larger indictment of a systemic and institutionalised oppression that transcends the African-American experience and which has managed to immobilise and suppress all marginalised voices"? RM: Yes, Algiers refers to the anti-colonial struggle in general. The Algerian revolution was one of the first modern anti-colonial struggles and served as an inspiration for revolutionaries from Cuba to Mozambique, Oakland to Palestine. The Panthers had an office in Algiers; Eldridge and Kathleen Cleaver were exiled there in the late 60s/early 70s. In this way, the name also refers to a dissipated notion of common cause, a truly global consciousness in opposition to the elite cosmopolitanism we see today. Of course, we learned about this through a variety of secondary sources: [Gillo] Pontecorvo's film, the Sartre and Camus debate on revolutionary violence and Fanon's Toward The African Revolution. Morricone's score to The Battle Of Algiers and Pasolini's use of African-American gospel music, most notably Odetta's version of 'Motherless Child' in The Gospel According to Saint Matthew, also provided inspiration as soundtracks to resistance. Symbolically, the name refers to a contested space, where violence, racism, resistance and religion commingle. Fundamentally, it evokes a double movement of hope and melancholy - referring to the optimism fundamental to any political project and the violence and reaction inherent in the attempt to overthrow the status quo. You can probably also glean undercurrents of the current 'war on Islam' in the name as well." thequietus.com/articles/17726-algiers-interview

@talisbriedis It’s a genre that has been based on experimentation and progression in punk rock since the late 1970’s. So Talking Heads, Devo, Joy Division, Gang of Four, the B-52’s, and the Cure are talentless as well?
That's the drummer from the old school Bloc Party, so good!
Good to see Matt Tong from Bloc Party back on the kit on TV
Not too surprised to see him on our screens again. Man is a monster behind the kit.
He has nice feel.
pretty wild seeing algiers on colbert. hell yeah! great performance too!

Saw these guys play in Cardiff, Wales last year. Definitely see them live if you get the chance.
Dude sang that song so hard and with so much emotion. Beautiful
wow, what a perfect and complex blend of numerous elements and the music feels so current.
They're an amazing band and I'm so glad music like theirs exists. Thank you so much @StephenColbert for having them booked!
This is one of the few bands to which I can relate to pretty quickly. It used to be different when I was younger.
Pedroleum100 try De Staat! They have a unique sound!

Same! I like this one

Camera crew going all out. I dig it
he's got that Curtis Mayfield soul fly groove
Nice!!
Nice song ;)
Cool album cover.
From the city algiers i like
Can't get over the fact that the bassist is using a Soviet Tonika that's been outfitted with an aluminium neck, can't even pretend I'm not jealous.
That is a funky lookin bass guitar
It looks like an old Soviet Tonika bass, but the headstock is different. Maybe he replaced the neck? I have a Tonika ... they're pretty bad.

His lead Vox need to be louder. Couldn’t hear anything.
They're not really "rockers" 🤔
They have heavier tracks, but they’re mostly based in soul and post-punk.
they're kind of a blend
Im tellin you dude, the lead singer just needs to go solo and brand that dude and he'd be big.
