This movie gives great career advice. My coworker was being annoying and was about to get a promotion, so I burned down his house with him and his family trapped inside and now I have his job! It's amazing what you can accomplish when no one is left standing in your way! Thanks Nightcrawler for changing my life! #blessed
*Prisoners* would be the *perfect* film to watch next. The contrast between both of Gyllenhaal’s characters, Lou Bloom & Detective Loki, is *insane.* The lawlessness of Lou vs. The lawfulness of Loki + The lack of eye-blinking from Lou vs the rapid, excessive eye-blinking from Loki. They’re different in many ways, yet both are *persistent* & *relentless* in their paths.
are talking about the Joker who briefly "appears" in The Batman or Pattinson's Batman? If you are talk about pattison you are out of your mind, if you are talking about that Joker, the make up work is phenomenl but yeah his perfomance was weird, for what we see in the deleted scene, he's not bad and see to be highly inteligent but he sounds like a satirical over exagerated Heath Ledger Joker, it felt really off.
@@ricardomiles2957 I’m not even talking about whoever that Joker is. I’m saying that I would’ve liked Gyllenhaal to be that universe’s Joker. But the role’s already cast to someone else.
One of my favourite little moments is when the foreman says he won't hire a f*ckn thief and Louis gives that little smile and nod. It's like he's acknowledging the foreman is actually smart and wise to his BS, Louis doesn't really care about not being hired, its just a little moment you see his mask drop with a "hey yeah thats actually smart dude nice, well seeya".
"Prisoners" and "End of Watch" are the ones!! Both of these are fkg riveting!! Both are exceptional. As is the performances in them. Jake and Hugh Jackman together are a sight to see. Either movie will leave you shook.
this is one of my favorite movies just from the standpoint of: this is capitalist america at it's rawest. unethical, narcissistic, sociopathic, borderline psychopathic. this is how corporations operate. this is how the world really works, and we just ignore it. Jake Gyllenhaal is absolutely amazing.
i love the commentary about lou's personality, this character is the display of a modern psychopath, not necessarily violent or theatrical, just ruthless in his approach and lacking any real humanity. Like an animal, this is just what they are, living on survival and instinct.
Amazing performance by Jake Gyllenhaal, his appearance was also haunting. This was intense and a great character study! Lou Bloom is a terrifying sociopath. Btw that actor you recognised, Riz Ahmed, he was in Venom.
Bill Paxton's character Bill called Jonas a Nightcrawler (in the 1990s movie) called Twister and Jonas was a rival Tornado chaser. It can't be a coincidence that Bill Paxton ended up in a movie called Nightcrawler surely.
I live in the San Fernando valley area of LA so obviously things get filmed around here daily. Literally daily. But it’s rare to see films or tv that use the names of the city and the streets. These are streets I drive on every day lol
Other Jake G movies to check for: "Prisoners"-2013 ..." End of watch"-2012....& one that really threw me for a loop.."Nocturnal Animals" 2016 Edit: Oh crap "The Guilty"-2021 was good also.
Jake Gyllenhaal honestly doesn't have a bad movie in his repertoire. He always gives it his all. I will always rep Enemy as one of his greatest because it's with Denis Villeneuve in the director seat (Blade Runner 2049, DUNE, Prisoners, Sicario, Arrival, seriously, one of the best directors/writers out there) If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. It's a mindfuck of a movie, heck, after my first watch I didn't fully comprehend it, but it's so heccin' good
You asked about movies with Jake Gyllenhaal, but don't sleep on Riz Ahmed. "The Night Of" is a great series and "Sound of Metal" didn't make nearly the splash it should have made imo.
Great reaction as always!!! And It's weird cuz Rene Russo plays almost the same type of Los Angeles news executive in a comedy called Showtime with Eddie Murphy and Robert De Niro. It's totally different but it's hilarious and I like to imagine it's the same lady earlier in her career lol 😆
I watched this movie one time, in the theatres, and never since. I remember it being really intense and compelling, though looking at it now, insanely unrealistic lol. I remember thinking at the time, THIS is why I go to the movies. Edit: it makes me think of cronenberg or lynch or something (please watch their movies)
He has antisocial personality disorder, meaning he lacks regard for other people. People with antisocial personality disorder tend to lie, break laws, act impulsively, and lack regard for their own safety or the safety of others.. symptoms may lessen with age.
Awesome reaction, I will forever remember watching this in theaters and just being amazed by Jake's performance and I'm still wishing every single day for a sequel. A perfect name for a sequel would be VPN. In my opinion.
Rene Russo doesn’t get enough credit for her role as producer. But yeah gyllenhaal is great. It’s such a sharp critique of the news industry especially those mid late 90’s even early 00’s era where this was prevalent, I think we have dialed back some of it a bit which is good for humanity
I thought it interesting that you assumed he was always going to steal stuff from everyone he interacted with that he rubbed the wrong way - which was basically everyone. I have seen this a few times and I don't remember if that's what I was thinking at the time but it's interesting to see someone assume or expect it, because he's definitely unpredictable, but I feel like certain shots they had in the early minutes of the film made it seem like he's open to all kinds of opportunities. He wanted a job - even an unpaid position - from that reclamation manager, which I at least remember thinking that it was cool he was trying to get honest work, but who knows what he actually would've done with it - I just wasn't thinking that far ahead when I had first watched this. Good film for sure, just because of the sheer novelty of it all, showing a whole lifestyle and sort of dark underbelly of society deal.
Your comments throw me off. You're like "he's putting himself out there", and "he talks as if he is successful even though he's not; that's important!" and when the guy gets offered $30 per night, you're like "hey, at least that's a meal!". Weird. You realize this is a story about a conman/psychopath who exploits his employee to his death, right?
A great but very disturbing movie. Gyllenhal's character repelled me physically and mentally from the beginning. It was a bit weird seeing your reaction. It showed me quite clearly you live in America, you seem more used to this kind of "news footage"? I'm really curious: do you think this kind of profession is normal and okay? I don't mean tempering with evidence or killing of course, but the business filming/photographing accidents and victims etc. Where I live this is illegal - mostly because of privacy reasons. Also, our first "commandment" of Basic Law is "The dignity of man is inviolable." The victims have rights and need to be protected. The press and broadcasting companies also wouldn't show them. I'm glad about it. It makes oneself a creepy voyeur to watch stuff like this. I wonder how the US laws for news coverage is, would really interest me. (I work myself for a news company, I'm curious about all stuff regarding journalism.)

I have never seen anything like this movie. It’s my favorite of all time, tied with Interstellar. Gyllenhaal is an absolute monster in this role.
Jake Gyllenhaal is terrific... he got really skinny for this character so he'd by like a "hungry, scavenging coyote".
Also rest in peace Bill Paxon

I would say this goes perfectly with the movies "American Psycho" (2000) and "Drive" (2011). Watching it as a triptych is great.
One of Jake Gyllenhaal's best movies is End of Watch imo. That movie will have you crying and laughing within seconds of each other.
Also, RIP Bill Paxton, this was one of his last few films :(
After his competitor crashes, that moment with him and Lou staring each other in the eye is so eerie
End of watch and Prisoners is a must watch
