    The sketch you were foggy on the premise - aliens landed and shapeshifted into human form, and K&P shot the ones that WEREN'T racist - that was the test and the irony. The aliens didn't understand our culture, and when they didn't act with any racism in answering K&P's questions, they were shot and then shifted back to their alien form. The racists weren't aliens and didn't get shot. Well, except for one.

    The idea of zombies comes from a real belief in the Carribean. The 1st zombie movie was in the late 60s. Night of the Living Dead, I think.

    The Key and Peele video you did before WASN'T racist zombies. That video was about a space alien invasion. Because the aliens could look like humans they had to ask certain questions to determine if the human was real or not.
    To be fair, race played a sizeable part in that video as well.

    There's 2 kinds of zombies: Haitian folklore zombies and Romero Modern Zombies. The idea of raising people from the Dead is long engrained in many cultures, but Haiti is the front runner. Read the book The Serpent and the Rainbow for some interesting historical context.
    The movie zombie was effectively created by Romero with Night of the Living Dead in the 60's, and arguably Richard Matheson with the story I Am Legend. Romero was the one who made them eat people and shooting them in the head became the method of death.

      U find a couple of answers about where "zombies" came from and yes there have been talks about the dead coming back to live for centuries and probably even b4 anything was actually documented to give then credit but the real answer you are looking for is from Marvel as they had them first in popular culture in an old comic and even had the word trademarked till a court said it had gotten too popular (specially in movies) and they lost the right to it. And yes the name came from an earlier culture but it was not at all the same meaning as the meaning we know for them now.

    • @Zombie_Trooper
      @Zombie_Trooper Рік тому

      @@TXHEN1 That's partially incorrect. Yes, Marvel attempted a trademark but that was the early 70's, 5 or so years after Night of the Living Dead. We can debate the longevity and cultural impact of Tales of the Zombie all day, but Night laid the foundation of the pop cultural zombie and of course Romero and Fulci solidified it in the late 70's. Tales...really only had staying power amongst Comic readers. And even then, those comics were more Haitian rooted like the old EC comics, less flesh eaters and more walking corpses usually set on revenge. Romero turned them into shambling animals who just want to eat.

    Zumbi is a young African Muslim leader who was a slave in Brazil during the colonization of it by the Portuguese masters in 1678 AD. He freed slaves and led battles against the Portuguese masters. The only way to stop the Islamic extension in Brazil was by killing zumbi. Zumbi was a leader under the rule of the king of the Palmares "Ganga Zumba". Muslims are known for their love of death. Martyrdom has a high view in Islamic faith. If die in the battle field in the way of Allah you'll straight to paradise where you'll have a special place unlike normal people of paradise who die normal death.

    Old Time zombies came from voodoo stories, based on religious beliefs from places like Haiti and New Orleans. Modern zombies started from the film Night of the Living Dead, which took out the religion and made it more like a pandemic. The other K&P you're thinking of was about aliens, not zombies. Common mistake, hahaha!!

  • @Juggtacula
    @Juggtacula Рік тому

    The concept of ZOMBIES is not an American thing. It's from Haitian voodoo and folklore. The word "Zombie" itself is a Haitian word. George Romero was the first person to make a movie about it and turn them into the slow walking brain eaters, and it's been in literature since the 60's, but Haitian witch doctors were said to cast spells on people to bring them back from the dead, sometimes as a gift, sometimes as a curse.

  • @marywalker5348
    @marywalker5348 Рік тому

    This may be a little long, but I'm not sure but I think the original idea of zombies came from the times when people were actually buried alive because they were in comas with undetectable breathing and heartbeats which led them to be determined dead when they weren't actually dead. They would bury them and then they would dig their way out of the graves when they would wake up in their caskets. And after so many years of that happening, in the realizing what was being done they started digging up different bodies and they would see clawing marks inside the coffins of people who were trying to get out but couldn't and eventually died of fear in their graves. So then what they started doing was attaching what they called death bells and death horns to the interior of the coffins. For the bell they would hang on like a metal stick above ground and they would attach a string to it and then the string would be attached to the person who they're about to bury hand or wrist and for the horn it was long standing above ground and it went through a hole in the coffin right above the mouth so if they woke up in the coffin, they could pull on the string to ring the bell or blow in the horn signally they were actually alive. Hence before they knew that these people were accidentally buried alive, all they saw were "dead people" coming out of graves covered in dirt and lethargic unable to speak from the traumatizing experience.
