I would never scroll on the kindle, I love it for reading only. But I have to say, on certain fanfic that I enjoy reading, being able to load in book illustration links without switching to my phone is so nice!
Exactly. This is the whole reason I want to buy a kindle as opposed to reading on my iPhone Update: I just bought a kindle paperwhite 2023 and I love it!
I keep wifi turned off on my device. Always have. It lets battery last longer, plus I’m never quite sure I trust any company to access my device and books on a continual basis. If I need to use a browser I’ll use my phone. It’s quicker than kindle and kobo browsers
They also updated their Kindle app with some new immersion reading features but then those features stopped working… I’d love to see a video from you talking about the new Kindle app updates
I think the browser update is nice if you read a lot of nonfiction/books with a lot of stuff that you need to look up, because sometimes the wikipedia thing isn't enough.
the reason i love the kindle is because it is just for a reading purpose. the kindle is simple- one job; keep my downloaded books safely on one device. thats all i ever wanted
Maneet, I bought the Kindle Paperwhite signature edition after careful review of your videos and other booktubers,...I bought the kindle because I wanted to read more and I do not have space to buy physical books willy-nilly. I want to read more as I used to be an avid reader until formal education with mandatory reading burned me out. I like the fact that the kindle was convenient as I can store as many books as I want. I tried the browser,...got frustrated with it and I like that. I don't intend to use the browser at all. It's not why I bought the device for,..I am still trying to get the hang of the device since I didn't really delve into the other things that it can do,...maybe that's why the update I got yesterday didn't really feel significant to me. But I do want to go over the GoodReads thing you mentioned as I do frequent the website quite often. I'm glad you have an comprehensive video about the update so I can take note of what the important changes are to me!
1 Big Flaw for Kindle Scribe Landscape mode, when you return to main menu with all the books, it switches into PORTRAIT mode, so going back and forth constantly switches from LANDSCAPE TO PORTRAIT when reading multiple books, it is very annoying. New update should not automatically switch to portrait mode if landscape is selected, all books on main menu should remain in landscape mode when exiting a book or trying to switch to a different book, it is a huge thing for me and one of the reasons why I rather read from my small Signature Edition, where I do not need to turn my head side ways to make a selection.
Dawg what are you talking about? how distracting can the web browser be? It's my favorite way to read text-dominant websites. I like going on wikipedia rabbit holes on my Kindle. I'm not doom scrolling or using Twitter on it :P I guess we disagree on this. Fair enough :)
I've been using a kindle for about ten years and I haven't used the browser a single time. About goodreads: do you really need a social to know what you want to read?
Why would anyone ever want to browse the web on the Kindle when the faster more colorful phone is never too far away? Also Kindle is wifi only, so it's not like you can browse the web anywhere. Leave it well alone.
As long as Kindle still keeps their restrictive OS, there is nothing you can do with that stutter, un-optimized browser except wiki or some rare occasions you need.
I strongly disagree. The browser for me is for following links in articles and books. If the link goes to Twitter on the old browser I was out of luck. Its slowness should be enough of a barrier to distractions.
I used the original Fire for a decade and loved it. It was clearly an ereader with some tablet functions, like color and a few crappy apps. When I got a Gen 7 Fire earlier this year I discovered that it wasn't like that anymore. It was merely a very mediocre tablet with a Kindle app. I don't much like it, for various reasons. That's why I plan to replace it with a basic Kindle. And using a browser on that is something I have no interest in. What would be cool, though, is something new like the original Fire--a color ereader, a true color Kindle. Why couldn't they do that?
My big perk for the web browser update is that my husband just got back from a vacation where I didn't have access to any of my library ebooks because the hotel hid the wifi behind a login page that wasn't able to be loaded on the Kindle browser 😭😭😭. So if this update fixes that, awesome! But in general I'm totally on the same page with you.
I am loving the idea of the browser update because it makes it easier to pull articles to the Kindle for reading. That’s pretty much the main thing that I’ll use it for… Thanks for the report!
As someone who reads footnotes, I would use the Kindle browser if links were clickable.
The browser is still really slow. This is a valid point, but I think it would still be more distracting than helpful.
Hi! Can you tell me which kindles can change pages on both sides? TKS!!!
I would never scroll on the kindle, I love it for reading only. But I have to say, on certain fanfic that I enjoy reading, being able to load in book illustration links without switching to my phone is so nice!
I agree. Kindle is a reading device for books. If anyone wants to doom-scroll, there is the mobile phone.
Agreed!
Exactly. This is the whole reason I want to buy a kindle as opposed to reading on my iPhone
Update: I just bought a kindle paperwhite 2023 and I love it!
I have never used the browser on my Kindle. I doubt I ever would. I agree that the Kindle should just be a reading device.
I’m not a fan of Goodreads.
I didn't even know there was a browser, so I don't think this will be a problem for me 😅
I have never used the browser and don’t plan to. But the goodreads part, I already used it before, and I like this update there!
I keep wifi turned off on my device. Always have. It lets battery last longer, plus I’m never quite sure I trust any company to access my device and books on a continual basis.
If I need to use a browser I’ll use my phone. It’s quicker than kindle and kobo browsers
I always keep my kindles on airplane mode & have disabled all online options.
They also updated their Kindle app with some new immersion reading features but then those features stopped working… I’d love to see a video from you talking about the new Kindle app updates

Enjoy your content. I disagree on the browser update. I rarely use it, but when I need it to look up something from a book, it's nice to have
This is a fair point! I still find it more distracting to leave the book. I try my best to write things down to look up later if I can.
I'm with you. When I'm reading, I just want to read!
Is this available for the new 11gen Basic Kindle? I can see this useful to view links found in book without pulling your hair out
Yep, it should be available for your Kindle. It can take time for everyone to get it, or you can manually download it from the website.
Going to definitely do that. I agree with you 100%
WTH Would you actually use a kindle as a web browser?
Honestly i jsed that feature to read some only fan fiction 😂 but yeah you are right! For anything else its not worth it
I don't think I have ever use the browser on my Kindle

Hi Maneet. I have an issue with my kindle paperwhite where the corners of the screen looks faded. Any idea why ?
I’m with you.
I agree with you. First comment!
Wohoo! 🎉

Just disconnect the Kindle from Wi-FI

We agree on that, the slowness is a barrier in itself!
Thank you

With all the other devices ple have, the need to browse on a kindle is pointless. At that point, just get a regular tablet
The browsers is only there in the first place to let the kindle store work. Apart from that I never use it.
Does the browser update allow reading books from hoopla?
I really want Amazon to innovate more and make the kindle paperwhite more modern and sleek
Yeah, agreed. They have so much potential with the Kindle line up. I hope they take advantage of it and release some exciting stuff next year!
I don't have a Kindle, but sometimes change feels disrupting.
