How come the Area Authority in the Philippines does the opposite? They follow the pattern - when a member is unable to sustain himself - they have to call upon FAMILY, FRIENDS, LOCAL GOVERNMENT UNITS, OTHERS, then the last is CHURCH… by the time they can get help with food from the church, the member is already extremely starving and yet in the USA where there’s already an abundance, we have bishop storehouses and in countries where bishop storehouses are really needed and useful they don’t exist😢
It is sound counsel that we be self-reliant; the alternative, as discussed in this insightful talk by Boyd K. Packer from the 1970s, is that followers of Christ, if not self-reliant, may struggle to receive personal revelation. However, the concept of 'self-reliance' has never quite sat well with me personally. We are always reliant on the Lord for everything, including every breath we take. Without the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, we can do absolutely nothing. You have reported that saints are starving in third-world countries like the Philippines. While I cannot personally confirm this, I can affirm that the Book of Mormon warns Church leaders to give to the poor and needy. Ignoring these warnings could result in the full measure of our Lord and Savior's judgment. I suggest that saints everywhere donate their full tithes and fast offerings and pray and fast for a resolution to this issue if it is true, before a just and terrible judgment comes upon us all. We are called to be faithful to our covenants, keep the commandments, and invite others to do the same. My prayers will include that either repentance or understanding will result from this desperate situation. We love you all and stand with you.
Everybody should listen to and seek to humbly apply this wise and classic counsel.
One of the greatest talks and most important messages ever given in the modern church. Too bad societies don’t follow these principles.
I really appreciate your channel. Thank you for your research
I appreciate that!
This popped up at the perfect time.
This just popped up on my screen. Is is not strange that these principles are much needed by myself and many in the branch I attend. Thank you ! 😊
Start with yourself
back in the day when the church did not push pharma drugs
Boyd K. Packer titled his talk the same as posted here, which clearly should not be ignored.
