Remember where I was when I first heard Be My Baby, summer 1963. What a great time! Best summer of my life, 17 yrs old and not a care in the world. Will miss you Ronnie. RIP
Genuine solid-gold old-school nostalgic soul! I don't even recall hearing this song from the Ronettes but the style and sound represents an era that was loaded with sensational hits like this one.The Supremes,Marvelettes,Martha Reeves & The Vandellas with other lady groups marked a dynasty.
Está extremadamente sobreproducido. Las coristas eran de estudio (contratadas por Spector). Lo único real era la voz de Verónica, detrás del muro de sonido.
Just have to say There will never be a voice like Ronnie beautiful lady. I am proud I was part of that generation. Although old today and young then I feel music was the best then ,
The opening dance in unison sequence with that great little music intro to the song is so adorable and mesmerizing. It just captivates you into a whimsical spell and lures you into the performance. Very nice!
One of Ronnie's best performances. Reason being: she sang live vocal with a recorded background. I wished all the rock shows in the 60s did it this way. Thanks for posting.
I hadn't heard or thought of this song in decades, until it popped into my head a few days ago. I thought I was going to have to go dig up my old bag of singles from the sixties--didn't think it would be on UA-cam. Behold and lo--here it is. Thanks.
I just cannot express the feelings I get when I see and hear this video. If there were any taste and justice in this world today, this record but be re-released and sell in millions. Grateful thanks for uploading.
David Osterberg I’ve seen my grandsons playlist ( he is 15) and he has over 400 songs and none from our generation, so I think they are pretty happy with their own music. If you look at comments from music in the 60’s etc, it is us that think our music is so great that every generation should automatically like it, and music today is trash. But when I look at comments from the kids music of today, they never even think of our music, never mind calling it trash. Sometimes I wonder who are the insecure adults and who are the kids.
@David Osterberg i agree. 60,s & 70,s music was exeptional for the sheer variety and innovation. It was the greatest music era ever and still strong today and will be in years and years to come.
David Osterberg yea, you keep telling yourself that everyone loves what we loved, and every kid wants to listen to grandpa’s music. I sure know I didn’t want to listen to my grandpa’s music, but then, I had my own music.
@@HamiltonRb i feel fortunate and lucky, not superior, to have lived in the 60,s & 70,s era. It was non-stop exelent music. People my age (69) will never get sick or tired of these songs and artists.melodies and harmonies that logde in the mind and soul forever. 9/10 kids today wouldn,t recognize a good song.it,s just that strong melodies and intricate arrangements dont sell anymore. Lack of melodies and good production is what todays music uninteresting or even annoying to me. Do we still have thrue musicians? Ofcourse we do, but they are few and far behind. You have to search for it or bump into it by accident. The reality is todays music doesn,t have anything memorable. Sometimes i feel bad for young people today as i don,t think todays music will stand the test of time. Iit just goes to show that true beauty talent and stage presence wins we need lots more of that today the light of heaven to estelle a beautiful woman is in a beautiful place the world certainly was a more beautiful place in the sixties when the ronnetes were around
Great intro riff, great production and great vocals by the beautiful Ronettes! Thank you for the upload and the memories! This one could be a hit in 2020 too!
They all had a certain look.I say extremely attractive, very exotic with there mixed heritages makes them more then beautiful. If any of them has daughter's and granddaughters,I can only imagine what they look like ?
We never really had girl groups in the UK in the 60's, we had solo girl singers like Lulu, Dusty, Cilla, Sandie Shaw etc The Ronettes were the coolest of the US girl groups with the Wall of Sound & Nedra was to die for
Great Sleeper of a song. In this vid you can hear the clapping from the girls the echo on that stage was heard even through the sound track, lip syncing here. They could hold there own. I played this 4 times and it never gets old Nedra looks great and so does Ronnies sister. Ronnie is till rockin' saw her in Hoboken's Washington Ave. Fair a block from Carlo's Bakery a feew years ago. Loved them then & now. Thanks for the post.
You can find the live vocals to this performance on UA-cam....you just have to search a little. The live vocals are on the color version of this performance. Lip syncing was very seldom done on this show.
I agree, but only for live performances. Nedra and Estelle were rarely on the recordings, and when they were you couldn't hear them because Phil Spector had a whole chorus of singers behind them, completely erasing the distinction of their voices.
this is absolute genius, i pray for him, a story teller of love, this is shabat shalom.. it has a healing spiritual prayer quality, shabat shalom spector
On this day in 1965 {April 27th} the Ronettes featuring Veronica performed "Is This What I Get For Loving You?" on the NBC-TV weekly program 'Hullabaloo!' {the above video is from this episode of the show}... Just under a month later on May 23rd the song entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #88; the following week it moved to #79, and on it's third and fourth week on the chart it peaked at #75, then it fell off the Top 100... Between 1963 and 1966 the trio had eight Top 100 records; one made the Top 10, "Be My Baby", it peaked at #2* for 3 weeks in 1963... * The three weeks that "Be My Baby" was at #2, the #1 record for those three weeks was "Sugar Shack" by Jimmy Gilmer and the Fireballs...
What would happened if that song (sugar shack) was unreleased? The ronettes would be more remembered? All the songs, including paradise or woman in love would be on philles record label?
They had such amazing style. So simple yet so beautiful. Estelle was a talented beauty. Love them in their white dresses(angelic colour of purity and innocence too!:) with those hair clips!! Yes, she was very lovely. Too bad she descended into mental illness not long after the Ronettes broke up. I read somewhere that they found Estelle living on the streets and they had clean her up to make her presentable for the induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony.
@@jackanthony976Yes, heartbreaking. Darlene Love, who knew her back in the day, saw Estelle there--Estelle didn't remember her. She was able to pull herself together enough to give a brief thank you, but wasn't able to perform with the other two. She suffered from mental illness for pretty much the rest of her life, living on the streets at times and telling passersby that she was going to be performing that night in a club with the Ronettes. Seeing as how Phil WAS so much of her story it would just hurt to watch. I think this song was written by Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil. Phil died earlier this year but he was deceased many years before. I'd say right after his work with Lennon & Harrison.
Nedra is so cute! This was back in the day when singers had talent and didn't have to parade around on stage half naked to make up for their lack of talent.

Can't beat that "wall of sound". Of all the girl groups during this time, "The Ronettes" were the purest definition of this style of performing!!
Love her voice. Singers of today can't ever come close to Ronnie Spector.
