I think she was ready to leave behind the huge, massive production, start walking away from the 20 something year old seductive vintage look with siren vocals layered and had a comfortable view of who she was and was really starting to find herself. I mean as soon as this was scrapped a few months later she started on NFR and look at the huge change! As each album comes out she distances herself from her old image more and more.
As far as I know, the music for this version was written by the session musicians of Alex Turner and Miles Kane's band The Last Shadow Puppets. It explains why it resembles Alex's music so much.

ofc love the studio but this version just hits diff. i remember when i first found it. it was summer i was spending days in the sun by the waterfront and smoking obscene amounts at night so i woke up at noon with a sore throat. i had this childish crush with some dipshit who smoked way too much and made me laugh. when my moods changed and i’d get mad at him i’d listen to this. i’d go to the river with friends and make bonfires. i learned how to ride a bike and made bracelets for everybody i loved and started collecting hoards of rocks id paint and leave under bushes. i began to buy crystals and read tarot cards. i remember this every time i hear this song. it’s bittersweet 🍬
2 different Lana’s. This was recorded at a much different time in her life. Her production was still huge when this was recorded and she was still stick thin and suffering from an eating disorder oh and she also was dealing with a crippling opioid addiction although she has remained sober from alcohol for a very long time. Now she’s in her late 30’s, has a new producer who has gave her a more mature stripped back production, has kicked the addiction, has kicked the eating disorder and is more comfortable in herself and the decisions she makes. She seemed her most unsure during lfl when she ruined beautiful songs by having many producers on some as she clearly was second guessing her own work. She also sings differently these days also. (And when I say COMPLETELY different I MEAN it, I think some songs are more so for the fans on her newer crafts and she still samples her old production at times but her old production never comes first) for example dealer may be a personal song mixed with the influence of her past persona many stans still love. I think she’s really happy these days and really looks it so for her to say “I don’t wanna live” is strange to me when she’s a very honest woman when it comes to that side of thing so I’m sure she’d be more vocal about her depression if it was like that. She seems happy and free! Performing at country fairs as a nobody with her friends, going to carnivals, healthy weight, ditched her Hollywood glamour image which I think was more so her trying to “fit in” in the best way she could with an artistic spin as she’s noted in earlier interviews she never fit in. I think it stems from that.
i know alex wasn't involved in this side project but if tlsp3 actually does comes out in 2 years (tlsp albums are octennial releases), i hope zach and miles get lana involved!!!

Yes and I think that’s the reason why she decided to leave behind the huge production. What happened was after LFL she was in sessions with the last shadow puppets and they made tons of songs together with the huge production and then she randomly pulled the pin on it and started on NFR which is way different and that’s when the production started to be stripped back. She’s evolving as she matures into her late 30’s. I guess she wasn’t really into this dramatic, huge production anymore and just wanted to tone it down. Proof is with water color eyes. There’s a euphoria version and then the single she put out. The euphoria version has much stronger instrumental but she ditched it for a more simple direction instrumental wise. I think the next album will be even more stripped back.
