Unnecessary and greedy. There's no reason to catch and keep that many fish. Shame on you.

    • @SamongOutdoors

I'll let the study speak for itself.
Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) on Walleye in Lake Roosevelt in a 2016 study:
"These populations are robust and contain plenty of harvestable fish. We continue to encourage anglers to harvest their limit of walleye when they have the opportunity. Too many walleye in a population can have a negative impact on the rest of the fish community, which will in turn negatively impact the walleye populations as forage is reduced. Routine monitoring of these fisheries, through the use of FWIN as well as creel surveys, will ensure that we are not negatively impacting walleye populations and that we are maintaining balance in these fish communities."
"Our data on walleye populations over the past 12 years indicate that these populations can sustain more harvest and indeed need more harvest."
"In 2006, the WDFW raised the daily limit to 8 walleye per day on Lake Roosevelt, Potholes Reservoir, and Moses Lake. Unfortunately, few anglers took advantage of this as the results from our two-year creel survey on Potholes Reservoir and Moses Lake indicated low overall walleye harvest. Creel surveys on FDR [Lake Roosevelt] indicated that walleye harvest was approximately 50,000 walleye annually, which was 1/3 of the management goal. In 2013, WDFW raised the walleye daily limit to 16 fish and removed size restrictions."
"These regulations were liberalized in order to accomplish two primary management goals: improve walleye growth and condition and bring about a balance in the predator/prey fish community. We are relying on anglers to help us achieve these management goals. We encourage anglers to help shape our walleye populations to a more healthy condition by harvesting more fish."

I agree..definitely no need to keep that many, just fish for the enjoyment of it man. If the limit was 100 you would keep 100? Common now.

    • @SamongOutdoors
      @SamongOutdoors  5 років тому +61

@@ericmutch4557 No, I wouldn't keep 100 fish if that was the limit. And I do enjoy fishing but why can't I keep my limit once in a while? I kept my 16; had 8 people total in the house; 2 fish per person. If this was a crappie fishing trip, I would've released all but one just to do a catch and cook video. The reason I would do so with crappie is because I have lots of access to crappie fishing throughout the year. Walleye on the other hand is very new to me and family as we never had the opportunities, or at the least the correct equipment, to catch walleye. Therefore, my goal was to bring some walleye back to the family to try out and feed them for a meal since most of them have never even tasted walleye. This is why I retained my limit on this particular trip. I also take into consideration the research of the body of water as well, in which I have stated previously on this thread of comments. Any more concerns you'd like me to address?

    Another great vid Samong.
The lady at the ramp reminds me of an old man that used to live in a tiny cinder block shack by the river here. One time he was looking in my boat as I was backing my truck up. " Nice bunch of cats you got there". So I gave him a few.
After that, everytime he'd see my truck roll by, he'd be at the ramp a few hours later. Perch, cats, stripers. Always gave him a couple when I saw him.
After a few years, he stopped showing up. One day leaving, saw him sitting in front of his house. He waved, so I pulled over, and grabbed a few fish. He looked terrible, gaunt and looked like he was rotting away. But a big smile and a bigger Thank You!
I'd always stop and give him some fish if I saw him.
Following year, tiny house was empty.
Been probably 15-20 years now, but I still think of him everytime I drive by it.
Anyway, thought that was really nice of you and Andrew, and it brought back an old memory for me.

I ran across your videos today for the first time. I enjoyed them and have subscribed. The first video I watched was about catching burbot in the lake with Andrew. The thing that really caught my attention was when you were unloading your car at the ramp. There were empty water bottles and stuff in the front seat. THANK YOU! You hadn't chucked the stuff out of your window while driving or in the ramp parking lot. That said more to me about you being an outdoorsman than how many fish you caught. Watching the fishing was enjoyable, too.

Walleye are very mild flavored fish. Great any way. We harvest them a little bigger on lake Erie so I like to use the pectoral fins as well. They call them fish wings. The meat is a little more flavorful. Look it up and give it a try. Backbones make excellent stock as well. Such a good tasting fish. Keep up the good work.

32 fish, wow that's great. I limit out on Trout at Mayfield lake every chance I get. I'll come home with 50 to 60 trout a week. I keep about 20 to smoke and then put them in canning jars. I give the rest away to different families.

fish fry , we would take the filets and cut thin angle slices from head to tail not more than 1/2 inch the thinner the better . fresh ranch dressing , malt vinager and jalapeno tobasco were the 3 things we would dip the battered slices into . we cooked the pieces well golden crispy is best for fish fry you might think they are over cooked but dont worry the malt V dip first then ranch then jajapeno is just mouth watering when you try them . i myself just mixed all 3 togather to save the time lol its that good ;) and yes the cheeks when the fish are larger they will give you a chunk of delicious meat like a scallop ;) hope you try eye fishing again its very easy to get hooked on ;)

Can't imagine Walleye being invasive but if they are keep all you can. However, as a Minnesota boy, you do not overpower that delicate fish with cajun spice - salt, pepper, sauteed in butter or breaded with flour and cornmeal and fried in lard. You are right the best fish of all.

Hey bro, quick question. I just bought a small fiberglass Livingston trolling boat paired with a 50lb thrust min kota , can I fish this lake with my trolling motor? Is there any tough under current? Should I buy 4hp outboard? Any info helps , new to boats and stuff. Thanks in advance 🤙🏾

I love the boat! I'm a huge fan of fishing from anything that floats. If I had to fish from a piece of Styrofoam (not a comparison just an example) I most definitely would. My favorite is kayak fishing and if its all I got I will take it anywhere.

Similar, but I really prefer the texture and overall taste of walleye meat over crappie.

Do those jigs have any weight to them? Or do they dive down?

The ones we were using were 5/8oz. They dive on their own.

I count more than 20 walleye in your picture. Isn't the washington state limit 8 per person?
