I bought my big bear new in 01. I have been through the shit with it, great machine! been using it to pull logs out of the woods to put on mill. This beast takes a beating and keeps on ticking. I call it my horse goes anywhere! 👍👍👍
Love the old Sears, Steyer Daimler Puch Mo-ped. I had two of them and several of the other bikes with the same basic engine on them, from my early teens to around 20. I have a lot of great memories because of them. 49cc of raw, 2.5 hp. I also got a pretty good mechanical education and practice from working on them, and developed a love for motorcycles from them. Great to see one and thanks for the great, helpful video on the Big Bear.
Great video, good information without a bunch of beating around the bush or being redundant, keep it up, put the fun stuff at the end , I’ll watch it .
Thank you very much for your video! I've had mine since 2003 and we decided to go swimming in sub-zero temps. So im changing all fluids and your description was perfect.
@@dillonlees7833 if it's a other than mikuni carb (OEM) throw it in the trash, those China carbs never have the right jets , i went through 3 of them before breaking down and spending the 190 bucks on a original, installed and she ran prefect ever since.
@mrbobsshow Hey I'll try that out next time, never thought of that! Thanks for the condolences Bob... yeah sure do miss her, man she had it rough for awhile one thing after another! Glad she's not suffering and hurting anymore and at peace!
i usually use the PJ1 filter spray and it comes of faily easy a great tip I learned is to wash it using hand cleaner it works the balls. Really sorry to hear about your grandma my thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.
Sorry I added a comment before I watched the full video and didn`t realise about your grandma till I watched it all. Please accept my condolences. Loss is a really terrible thing. so sorry.
I have a 2004 big bear. I am having issues with the rear drum brake filling up with mud and water constantly. I've replaced EVERY SINGLE PIECE and still have the issue. Any suggestions for what I need to do to convert it to disc brake on the rear?
Hey man great video listen I just changed the oil on my 2007 big bear I was told at the dealer that it took .37qt.for the front and .24 qt. for the rear. now the front differential is leaking could it be cause I put to much oil or could it be the crush washer? Thanks if you could help.
Do the differentials also have measure levels on the dipstick? I don't know how to put .37 qt of oil in the differential and .24 in the final, without putting too much in. I'm sure the engine (main oil) has a dipstick I can measure with.
Those were outlaws on ss rims, they were on my friends honda, i have the big bear, the same color as yours. but i recently just bought new tires from my friend, they are swamp whitches on ss rims
@m2mark1 Haha yeah thanks... yeah they keep me busy and out of trouble! Your pretty close on the money ;) Not married but dating... no kids... do have a good job though... when I'm not at work I'm working in the garage! And if I'm not working I'm looking for more toys to work on! Just got a passion for tinkering on all kinds of things and getting stuff running again! I use to fix and sell alot of stuff but now I've just been hoarding everything! ;) Hey thanks for watching buddy!
Hello, tell me, I plan to buy a Kodiak 400 (Big bear 400), if it is carefully operated, just drive without mud and swamps and regularly serviced, then 15,000 km will pass?
Thank you bro that was very understandable although I’m 14 and just got my new bike I think it’s a 2007 Yamaha 400x400 big bear and I’m going to change the oil during end spring I think Edit: correct my mistakes about the name please thank you!
thank you very much for taking the time helping others! It is well appreciate sir. I got one, however, not sure if it is a 400 or larger. looks identical to yours. my first ATV.
jfrost77hd mine burns oil if you had to rebuild your motor what would you change(gaskets, rings and or piston) and what kit would you buy and what year is that big bear and have you ever done a video or think about making a video showing how to do the rebuild thanks
This big bear is long gone so probably no more videos unless I find another. Piston, rings, gasket kit and cylinder bored to the next size would be recommended for top end rebuild. Thanks for watching!
What year was it and if it's not too much trouble could you check like what kit form ebay or amazon you would buy and take a screen shot of it Thanks for answering and the video you made of the oil change helped me alot thanks
jfrost77hd could you plz help me find the right top end rebuild kit for this type of atv (rings, gaskets and or piston ) I would like to order it from ebay or amazon. thanks for your help
Back to this video again!! Really helpful but one question, do you by chance remember what that front bumper/brushguard is off of? If you reply thanks a lot!
Good video, thanks for all the good info! 👍 Question...Did that steel front "bumper plate" (mounted on the front brush guard), come stock on that 2000 model from the factory? I have a 2002, (which I bought used), and it didn't come with that set up. Just the smaller, tubular brush guard which is behind it (in silver), in your video. Regardless, whether it was stock, or an aftermarket piece, it's a pretty sweet setup for mounting a winch. Which I intend to do. Maybe it was a factory option from Yamaha? Thanks for any reply. Thumbed up. 👍
I have a 2002 big bear 400 and I have to say that is probably the best atv I have ever owned. ive had a Honda, broke it. had a Polaris, broke it. but the Yamaha is still running strong. my only complaint is speed. its big green and slow lol, but it pulls like a monster. I don't have any Yamaha dealers near me so I have to order parts online. shipping is kinda high but I feel like the parts are high quality. bottom line, if my big bear blew up today i'd go buy another one just like it.
Hi,I got 2002 big bear 2x4 that sat like 6 years with same gas in it i guess cause it was popping when i was trying it out.the only reason i got it from the dude it only had 150miles on it and his wife owned it.i took the carb apart clean it still same thing so i got one on E-bay for $159.00 new.the only thing is it needs more air to the carb.u think i need a bigger jet size 4 or 5 size.it runs great without the air box and faster ride. P.S. pic u c is my prairie 400 4x4 setup 4 snow LOL
Great video. But, You have to oil your foam filter. that is what collects the dirt and dust from clogging your paper filter. Take the foam filter off the paper filter, oil lightly and squeeze it till it is fully covered, do not over oil. Then put the foam filter back on the paper filter. When dirty take foam filter off and clean it with gas, do not wring out or twist the foam, squeeze it out. Have fun with your new toy.
@MrEricdgreat I bought them all here at at local Yamaha dealership for convience.... was alittle pricey close to $100 for everything. I'm sure you could get everything cheaper if you look around.
Can you possibly give me some advice? My big bear boggs out like there is to much air coming in wont accelerate but idles really good but wants to die as soon as you hit the throttle,
I haven't messed with these in years but I know some will do that if the parking brake is not all the way disengaged as a safety, try manually disengaging it at the lever itself it could be hanging up. If not that I'd say the main jet in the carburetor is probably clogged.
