Great reaction. One of my top 5 Nightwish songs. One of the more personal songs for Tuomas and the fans. An old song written by Tuomas when he was young. Inspired by the question what would you say if you knew you were going to die tomorrow. Tuomas has said this song was a way of thanking all those who deserve his thanks and a piss off to all those who deserve it as well. Tuomas often uses the dead boy as a symbol of the loss of childhood innocence and imagination that we experience as we grow into adulthood. When you hear dead boy or poet in his lyrics he is usually referring to himself. He also has a strong connection to the ocean and sees it as a place of peace and tranquility. A refugee from the modern world. There are two lines from the spoken word section that are quotes from a series of Shakespeare's sonnets where the poet who, feeling shame and worthlessness, wishes to be forgotten after death. The poet is pleading with his love to not mourn excessively upon his death, feeling unworthy of such adoration, and allow him to pass into oblivion. "If you read this line. Remember not the hand that wrote it" is from Sonnet 71 and "I live no more to shame nor me nor you” is from Sonnet 72. So in this song Tuomas is saying that he no longer lives for himself or his friends but only for the music. He puts all his feelings into the music and his music is what gives his life meaning. He tries to make his life better but can never get back to the innocence of his youth. He wants to be loved but can't connect with people. He asks that they remember his music, not him, after he is gone. Thus a lonely soul, an ocean soul. Note that on the video wall behind the band the boy is holding up his arms to several swans. In Finnish mythology swans are the creatures that guide your soul to the afterlife.
From a deep growl from hell to a Soprano with 4 octaves she can do all what you want She's the only one to have the full package......and that's why she's the greatest of all times She can sing beetween any genres and it's always on point You have so much to discover about Nightwish and miss Floor She's a very down to earth person Yes an international star Queen but yes.........a very good person indeed Sorry for my english....i'm a French guy See you soon Best wishes
Marko is rocking his custom Warwick Infinity/Panthera double neck bass/guitar. He also uses it in other songs such as "The Islander" (Live at Tampere) and "Weak Fantasy" (Tampere). And yeah thats her "Floor Fan"
You really should react to the original singer Tarja doing this song live on the From wishes to Eternity dvd. She conveys each emotion not only with her amazing vocals but thru her face and body language. It is quite stunning!!
According to Tuomas, the song is the “mother of all Nightwish songs,” about himself and how he wants people to remember him as when he passes away. Before he wrote "The Poet and The Pendulum", he said "This is the most personal song I’ve ever written. My testimony for the whole world. With this song I want to apologise everyone who deserves my apology. It also makes an “I don’t care” -statement to them who deserve it. The song is also about what Nightwish means and has meant to me. It’s all, without it I’m dead. I have created it and it has created me. When I pass away, this song’s lyrics are of what I wish to be remembered. An Ocean Soul." And no one on that planet can sing it with more emotion than the GODDESS !!!!!!!! Cant hear it whilst driving........cause SHE always brings me to tears........ Not to mention the grandios solo of Emppu.........thats absolute masterclass !!!!!!
This is a very emotional and personal song for Tuomas. The small child's voice represents Tuomas inner child speaking. When asked what this song was about "Tuomas has said about this song, that it's about if he were to die tomorrow, what would he want to say to everyone that he loves, and that love him..." Notice the small boy on the screen reaching out to the flying swans on the screen. He is reaching out to implore them to take him with to the other side. In archaeological excavations done in Karelia, a child was found and its body was laying upon a wing of a swan. In Finnish mythology and folklore, the swan was the divine messenger between the living and the dead. When a swan dropped its head below the surface, people of old times believed that it was communicating to the spirit world. Killing swans was a terrible crime because it was as bad as murdering a human. Punishments for killing swans were severe, the usual penalty was death. Swan song often symbolizes an artist´s last performance but for a long time all across the world all the way to the 17th century it was believed that swans only sang when they died. A beautiful song filled with sadness from an unfulfilled destiny. Here are the spoken words from Dead Boy's Poem. "If you read this line Remember not the hand that wrote it Remember only the verse Songmaker's cry, the one without tears For I've given this its strength And it has become my only strength Comforting home, mother's lap, chance for immortality Where being wanted became a thrill I never knew The sweet piano writing down my life" "Teach me passion, for I fear it's gone Show me love, hold the lorn So much more I wanted to give to the ones who love me I 'm sorry Time will tell, this bitter farewell I live no more to shame, nor me, nor you And you I wish I didn't feel for you anymore" A lonely soul An ocean soul
Glad to see our tastes align among the old-time fans of the band! This is one of those "core" songs by NIGHTWISH that you have to immerse yourself into to understand Tuomas' philosophy and worldview, especially in this earlier phase of the band (the song was written back in the last Millennium, no joke :)). "Dead Boy's Poem" is the confessional of what Tuomas was and, mostly, still is. HE is the Dead Boy - the dead child that is no more inside of all of us, grownups. It is about the strife to preserve the perception of beauty, and wonder, and fantasy that we deprive ourselves of as we go deeper into the "rational" world... in something like a suicide note, the "boy" says to the man: "I live no more to shame nor me, nor you". The themes presented here are reiterated in a number of their best songs. One of them, Ocean soul = the Artist = Tuomas. The artist's connection to the nature, and to the infinite.
Nightwish Army US Division here. I think this is the only concert that has Dead Boy`s Poem live with Floor singing, It`s from the Decades tour and they do alot of older songs. Ville Lipiaimen is the director of this and most of their live shows on DVD. One of my top favorite songs. Another song from this venue is ``The Carpenter`` a very old song that Troy is featured singing with Floor backing up.
Marko’s double neck hybrid - ‘The Beast’ as it’s affectionally known - combines a Warwick bass with a Framus guitar. Warwick acquired the Framus brand in 1995 and distributes instruments with both names. If you look carefully, you will see that the headstock of the bass has the Warwick logo whereas the headstock of the 6-string carries the Framus logo. It is clearer if you watch Nightwish’s performance of The Islander at Tampere.
Floor's first fan was the floor fan! And if that is not enough, lots of Floor fans in the audience🤩 A very young (at age 23) Floor on stage in 2004, noticing the tech has forgotten to switch on the Floor floor fan: ua-cam.com/video/5wBIeYpL7mQ/v-deo.html He/she also forgot to switch on the mic of the growling singer, Sander......
I believe when Tuomas asked Floor to stand in for Anette in 2012, she must have asked him right away if they had a proper floor fan. She doesn't enter the stage without it. I know the video you are mentioning. I shared it on TikTok to show off how professional Floor was on stage 😁 Guess I'm the fan watching at home every single day 🙈 There is no good day without hearing Floor and watching her hair moving in the wind (of the floor fan).
Maeko was playing a doubleneck warvick Bass / guitar. This song is very emotional for Tuomas . Btw thank you for the narure travel video that you posted
Tuomas said "This is the most personal song I’ve ever written. My testimony for the whole world. With this song I want to apologize to everyone who deserves my apology. There is a reverence that simply takes your breath away. Floor is astonishing.
P. S.: For a more mature, a little ironic but still enchanted glance into the world of human fantasy ("Story-telling breed we are," - Tuomas), please look into - and listen to - "Pan", a song off their penultimate album "Human.:||:Nature." [Yes, even the way the album title is put together has a meaning! Those who studied music can explain more. ;)] Although there may be Live performances recorded by now, the Official music video is the best, in my view, as the visuals also tell some of the story. ALL tracks from the mentioned album were released as MVs, and most are really revelatory. Way to go! \m/
Well, here I got the confirmation, that I put my money in the right reactor for my requests. You are as versatile in your musically appreciation as I am and that makes it worth to go ahead. So you want some rap, well something quite like rap I could offer to you in my next one, but in the actual request I will show you the romantic side of Simone Simons... I know you will like it! Have a better day tomorrow than the one today. Greetings from Germany Sorry for the broken link, I check it before I post it, don't know what happened.
The fan er necessary to keep Floor's makeup cooled down. She is using a lot of power and strength in all her performance s - but she is in such a great condition that you won't notice it.
The mother of all Nightwish songs. "Everything I wish for the night". Marko calls that instrument "The Beast" - custom made for him. Even Emppu has a serious face while playing the solo = Tuomas' self-written eulogy and an F.U. to the nay-sayers. and Tarja sang this first - SMH. helps me to understand the lyrics to "Bye, Bye Beautiful" better.
You seem to be a humble nice guy..a perfect Nightwish fan. Thank you for a great reaction . Cheers from a finn in Sweden.
Yo dude! Thanks so much, I really am. Just wanna meet everyone around the world & come together with music!
Don't know if you've done sleeping sun yet, that's another lovely quieter one, thanks for your reaction 😊🇬🇧
I haven’t but sure I’ll make it there! Thank you!
Floor's hair is unaffected by gravity
Haha true..

Marko refers to his doubleneck guitar/bass as "The Beast". It is very heavy. Rap is not part of the Nightwish repertoire. 🤷♂🤷♂
Haha
The mother of all Nightwish songs. "Everything I wish for the night". Marko calls that instrument "The Beast" - custom made for him.
