3:00 driving through water like that was what caused my well-kept corolla to wreck into the curb. I'll never forget that day. Bro, I had to get out of the car in my yearbook photo clothes and jack the car up while getting all muddy
Hydroplaned my stock mustang GT across all lanes of the interstate last week. The experience was traumatic, I’m glad to see someone speaking up on what care to take on your car to avoid the dangers of it.
I’ve gotten sideways on the highway as well even with my v6 challenger which isn’t any where near as much power... wasn’t pulling, speeding or doing anything stupid... just happened to lose grip, thankfully I got control back but can happen to anyone... glad u were good!!
Great info for the newer driver and for people moding their cars! I always tell people tires tires tires. First line of defense against a lot of craziness
Hey, I also hydroplaned in my mustang, and I was in snow wet mode, it is mostly about being careful in wet(rainy)/ snowy/ slippery conditions, glade you are okay, hope to get mine back soon, and I wish you the best of luck in continuing your build
You're the most respectable car person I know and you learn from you're mistakes and you don’t blame it on bs you're a very respectable person and I respect everything you do and you have very good content. So all and all very nice
Damn, this video just opened my eyes 👀 I did brakes first thinking that was the most critical thing to do before installing my Paxton kit that should be here next week. I had planned on focusing on my suspension after the my blower was installed, but now I may have to change the order of my build. Good insight man. Thanks. But, I also didn’t see myself ripping it all the time, given that I only drive it a lot on the weekends…
Same thing happened to me on the highway around 50mph i had some NT05Rs a Dodge charger cut me off and i slowed down, when i got back on the gas slightly the car hit a puddle and hydroplaned sideways 2 lanes to the highway concrete barrier. Luckily i wasn't hurt other than just airbag damage on my arm.
Especially with those wheels that’s why my mom didn’t let me get the performance pack and I wouldn’t even have used it for it’s purpose so still looking and will be turbo charging it or whipple
High horsepower rear wheel drive cars require common sense. They can have hugh issues on rainy or damp roads. The tires you were running are soft rubber with a short life from burnouts and tracking. It sounds like you were lighting them up reducing the tread. I own a built Chrysler 300C Hemi that only gets ripped as you call it at the dragstrip. Last Saturday a Challenger Hellcat who launched as i was staging lost control and put it in the wall when he lost traction. Fast cars can be a handful even at the dragstrip using drag radials. Even using newer street tires and driving normal on the street can be a hand full in the rain or hot blacktop roads. Sounds like you learned an expensive lesson but use that power at the dragstrip. Great to hear you walked away without injuries. Sounds like your building a beast, so be safe moving forward.
That’s unfortunate, but on these cars suspension is one of the most important things to do. Should’ve done that before the blower, guys go for power first but they should go for suspension and grip first. One of the first things I did on mine was suspension. At least you know now for future reference, and you have a decent platform so others who are taking their first shot at a decent amount of power know what to do differently.
Great video and so much respect Toby! Glad you are okay and you got Sally back up and ripping. I think I’m going to calm down the pulls in mine and I’m stock 10 speed.
Great video absolutely loved it. One of my favorite car influencers to watch and one of the main reasons I want to get into creating car content. Such an unfortunate thing that happened but luckily you and the car were ok! Can’t wait to see how much you grow man
A month ago I was normally driving in the rain and just slid out of no where while making a turn and almost ran into a ditch I was really sideways and I was fortunate no one else was on the road. It was a good scare I have always been careful in the rain now im extra careful. RWD 275 crank hp in my 04 trailblazer. I'm only 17 and I don't wanna crash my car
Damn nice ride and probably one hell of a learning lesson. You must be killing it at whatever you do for a living especially at such a young age because those high power builds ain't cheap! I know 😂
Dude I just installed a intake system into my 4 cylinder I can’t even go 2 inches into the gas pedal now without doing a slight burn out I have drag radials on the back but I’m gettin nervous about my tread (one tire blew and the discount tire replaced for free) and I had to drive in the rain yesterday …I drive like a granny for fear of hydroplaning glad your okay damage dosent look to crazy
Tires are key. Bad tires will always let you down. Almost killed myself in my Corvette by hydroplaning just doing 50 mph in the rain. Had Michelin cup 2s. Was getting passed by everyone staying in the right lane but hit a section of 6” deep water and slid across four lanes causing a scary moment for everyone. I didn’t wreck but changed out my tires the next day. 15 years earlier same thing in a Porsche 911 and hydroplaned and crashed big time. $14K damage to that car but had not much tread on the tires in the rain. Just stupid being young trying to save money. It took two times before I wised up. Be very careful with powerful cars and not watching your tread wear!!! I have friends that have experienced awful car accidents due to tires not safe for conditions. Plus you get a ticket even if you are hurt‼️
@@michaelschwab9563 The benefits of Half-Shaft upgrade kit that will stop the wheel hop and gives the car more stability, Half-Shaft upgrade kit is not only for the launching.

Good for you @TobyVegaD a little self-introspective thought is a good thing in a younger man. I have been where you are. Whether it be a GSXR 1100 or 1980 z28 Camaro with nitrous and a 355. The important part is you learned your lesson and you live to tell the tale. When you say stock suspension you're half kidding right? I swear your car looks lowered because your rims and tires are almost flush with your wheel wells and mine does not sit that way at all. Not yet anyway. After the Steeda suspension in a couple weeks we'll see.
1st) Everyone beats on their car lighting up the tires and never change them on their daily driver. 2) Guys ride on full summer only tires in the cold/rain, that have no tread pattern to disperse water or that become absolute bricks in the cold. Your cool 80degree R888Rs DO have downsides. 3) Flooring it without being straighted out first. 4) Buying improper tires. Nobody should be buying Nitto G2s over 400hp (for anybody reading) And after a certain hp, idc if you have R888Rs, street tires DONT work, you NEED drag radials. 5) Not thinking in general. When guys head out to go race AFTER their car has been sitting at the meet for 1hr+ and they just run out and stomp on the gas....tires need heat in them before anything. 6) Just slow down. If it's raining, think about what tires you're running, what lane you're in because it could hold more water than others and type of surface you're on and slow down. Glad you're good though, we've all had our scares and don't think about the little things sometimes. I know i've had my moments. Stay safe man!
Who doesn’t know you need tread on your tires? This is what happens when you build on car on mom and dads money and have no common sense. They shouldn’t sell these cars to kids under 25. Glad you’re ok tho. Lesson learned
It wasn’t that I didn’t know about tread. Just didn’t think I would eat through tires after 2,000 miles. Idk why you have to be so hateful, mad at me for what? 😂
Lol age doesn’t apply to ability to build a car. He just made a few mistakes, but he lived and he learned. Some people either prevent this stuff by doing other mods first or they end up learning from experience why they should’ve done the other mods. That being said I scratch my head when people really try to bring age into the mix 😂. You can be 45 and incompetent and you can be 17 and know what you’re doing. The age argument isn’t a good one because it’s different for each person regardless of age.
All that matters is that you were okay

It was an 01 corolla. That's why I used the words well kept
For future reference, the rain driving mode still works with the whipple tune and decreases throttle input by a good amount.

No sir! That’s what I have

AWD isn’t gonna fix bald tires in the rain
Also, don't floor it in the rain unless you're AWD.

Supercharged or Turbo MUSTANG needs: ✅
1- Coilover.
2- Half Shaft Upgrade kit.
3- At least 305 width rear tires.
Needs more than just coilovers but that’s a good start
If you plan on launching it all the time Yes it needs Half Shafts. But if you're just doing pulls you're good with the stock ones. Trust me
