  • What is lichen planus? With lichen planus, lichen means tree moss and planus refers to flat, and the reason it’s called that, is that lichen planus is a flat-topped skin rash that looks a bit like tree moss. Find our full video library only on Osmosis: osms.it/more.

    I’ve had this all of my life starting around my teen years. Not one dermatologist in the US where I was knew what I had. At 26, the military moved to us South Korea. A Korean doctor in a Korean Hospital who knew little English, did a skin biopsy and dx’ed me with this. I was given meds and was cured. I was then able to tell my aunt what she has had all of her life and get treated for it. Mine is cyclical as it comes back every 5-7 years. I’m back in the United States and the physicians/dermatologists are still baffled by my condition. This was the BEST explanation of my dx ever! I’ll school my physician when I get an appointment.

      Hi, I was just diagnosed with linear lichen planus too, how did yours look? And what medication were you prescribed? I have it on my stomach and thigh and I’m terrified of how much more it will continue to grow

    • @Sldejo
      @Sldejo 3 роки тому +26

      @@lisaking4160 all over, neck down but not on genitalia. It starts like a bulbous very itchy hurtful rash and when the infection is done, it turns into a purplish thickened scar. I have dark brown skin so it’s a dark brown-purplish scar mark. So far I’ve been using turmeric (a spice) mixed with water and honey to lighten up the scar mark left over and have experienced slight change in color that lightened. I’ve only used it twice. (There are YT vid on people who have used this. Very resourceful) Meds given were topical steroids. This time however I found a Dermatologist who cared. Instead of a travel toothpaste size tube, I got an 12-14 oz tub of topical steroid. I hate using the topical steroid. I would rather take the oral Prednisone and be done for the next 5 years but we are trying something new. He also is having me get tested for Hepatitis C since I was a nurse in the early 2000’s. I have found out that cold showers or cold weather keeps the itching down. It’s winter up here and I’m loving it. Also I’m taking antihistamines for itching. The cheap Walmart stuff works for nighttime itching. Lotion is garbage on my skin during this time. I’ve been using straight Vaseline while I’m still wet from the shower for skin softness. Exfoliating the skin helps also. 👍🏾 There are folks out there who are worse off than we are. I know for me there is not a cure. I use this disease for Christ to give people the Gospel who otherwise probably wouldn’t get It. I would rather have this and glorify Christ with it as I know that one day I will have a new body like His in heaven when He calls me home, than have a pity depressed party. I’m just glad I know what it is and how to deal with it. Being positive is the key. Hang in there!

      Unfortunately, the quality of medical education in the US sucks. Training in the US is perceived as top tier even in other countries but medical students know very little actually. They graduate not knowing how to diagnose murmurs with a stethoscope or even delivering one baby.
      US med students are pampered and spoiled, not even allowed to work 24 hours or more than 80 hours a week. They have enough time to be medtubers though.

    Thankyou Osmosis for making this video😇..... It would have been more helpful if I it 3 years back🤭 .... Anways, I have been doing some primary research on LP in the last year of my Master's for my Project. I saw all of these points in the video that I found during my literature review. Animation is so helpful because it is difficult to imagine such a complex procedure where autoimmunity merges with inflammation. Osmosis I am looking for the institutes which are currently doing research on LP and want to join them in the study. Could you help me find one, because the ones that I found are all medical schools which are studying the patients rather than performing research.... Please do let me know... this is important for me as I have been experiencing it since by teenage and I don't want others to go through this!!! Waiting for the reply 😉

    Wow! Dr. Google brought me here through my research. My skin condition has been misdiagnosed for eczema or an "unidentified dermatitis" by three different dermatologist and they prescribed me numerous cream medications that did nothing! 😩 I kept telling them that it had to be something else but they just wanted to keep trying different medicated creams until they found something that worked. It was humiliating and cost me to waste so much money. I knew I didn't have eczema bc my inflamed skin did not look like any type of eczema. It took me many hours of research to find a photo of someone with the exact same look and symptoms of my flare ups and skin condition. And now, here I am looking for treatments and remedies. Thank you for your video. ❤️❤️❤️

    About the prognosis of LP , if it was idiopathic , most of cases will be resolved spontaneously , otherwise the prognosis depend on the underlying cause .
    LP + hepatic Sx = HCV or HBV till proven otherwise .
    LP can be associated with other autoimmune diseases like ulcerative colitis and alopecia areata .
