If there were one drummer on the planet I could smoke with, and trade 4’s with, before I die, it’s Chad! Seems so down to earth, and throughput all these years, he continues to improve his playing. The man can just groove!
I used to hang out to 2 girls heather and lisa. They wanted me to go over someone's house. We went over there and there's Chad Smith! Omg! Couple years later he's in the red hot chili peppers!
I am so used to RHCP interviews or just one man interviews being soooo bad, but this was done really well. The guy asked the right stuff and it flowed really well. Chad is by far the most normal guy in the band, and the interviewer helped bring out the most in him.
@@roddydykes7053 Oh yeah. I've seen too many of those ones with Flea and Ant doing random things, especially from the 80s or early 90s. But, I was referring to the actual interviewers. No interviewer is perfect, but sometimes they don't understand how to bring out the best in the band, whether it's Flea, John, Ant, or Chad. Yeah, all 4 members have ages, and (mostly) matured over time, naturally, but maybe I have no idea what I am talking about haha. The band has been known for their hysteria, surely. New album time soon!!!!!
I have to say that for me Chad Smith is the personification of everything a drummer should be in the back of my mind, John Bonham is another on a similar level, but for me chad just encapsulates why drumming is one of the most amazing things to do in life! Without his drumming i wouldn't be doing what i do today. I'm glad i had my dose of mothers milk early on!
Bonham was 'better' than Chad, i think that Chad would be one of the first people to admit that. But in my mind, Chad stands out for a variety of reasons other than just his playing, His attitude towards life for example. Even the fact that he isn't a 'perfect drummer' and makes mistakes live sometimes when trying a fill he's never played before, it's this kind of reckless passion for what he's doing that makes him my number 1.
James Storey fair enough, for me he dindnt contribute enough to the band to be better than Bonham which kind of showed a lack of passion. Often in Anthony kiedis's book he says Chad just went with the flow and wasn't really fussed about what they played. It's just hard to compare that to Bonham who came up with amazing beats such as when the levee breaks and rock 'n' roll.

He told me his dad was sending him to LA to go to school..... Toby Redd was the shit... Saw them so many times at Jaggerz and New York New York.... A ton of talent in that band.

Listen to things outside of your favourite genre, listen to A LOT of music, take in any art such as paintings or movies or theatre that you can that will evoke emotions in you. There's no limit to creativity...try things that you think are dumb, try limiting yourself to one piece of your drum kit and see what you can do with just that and how many different sounds you can make, never stop experimenting with what you're doing.

Met Chad twice in 91 and then again in 2007...great dude. Funny...down to earth just a regular guy. No rock star ego bullshit.

I thought I saw Will Ferrell at first
Jesus Christ they look so much alike I thought from the thumbnail that Will Ferrell was in the interview discussing their 'rivalry' or something.
23:59 Did he say his dad was from West Virginia
Yes. Dang someone awesome a dad is from my state
Anthony was probably flying high during the audition and that's why he was dancing around and laughing his A_$ off. :D
