It's also my fav part of the album. The way every instrument layers and crescendos on top of each other help create this image of a violent and abrasive beast, leashed by the fortification of and synergy of Swans.
The first time I listened to that part in Toussaint as well as the ending part, I was stoned out my tree and was utterly terrified and mesmerised by such intense out-of-control chaos. The same goes for the middle part of the song where there's all those swirling head-bending sounds being made by guitars which I would've never thought was even conceivable nor humanely possible.

For anyone who cares, I (22 y/o male) had a really intense experience listening to this song sometime in 2020. I was listening to TBK on my headphones while fishing 10 miles off of the coast of San Pedro, CA. I was with my older brother (31 y/o) and his son (10 y/o) in a small center console boat. It was midday and there were no clouds in the sky. The sunlight reflecting off of the water was uncomfortably brilliant and omnipresent. There were no other boats in sight. When this song came on, we began to approach an oil rig that we saw on the horizon that my brother said was a good fishing spot. Even amongst all the light that surrounded us, I could make out a sharp crimson and orange glow on the rig that I knew had to be a fire. We got closer to the oil rig as the song progressed. The song became more fierce and the size of the rig became more apparent. Eventually, we’re floating what feels like directly beside this flair stack that’s attacking the sky with a building-sized pillar of flames while Michael Gira is shouting “BRING THE SUN” over this divine orchestra of human voices and post-rock instrumentals that are playing full blast in my ears. My nephew is crying with a fear and discomfort not unlike that shown on the album art. My brother is stoic and unmoved. I’ve never had a musical experience that made me feel so small. Not only small in the face of the human creation/destruction I was witnessing or small in the face of the open waters and heavens that surrounded us in every direction. As cliche as this sounds, I felt small in the cosmic sense…like a bacterium lost in space. Like everything I could do or ever dream of doing would amount to nothing more than dust in the wind in comparison to these gargantuan sounds that were filling my ears and the industrial and natural spectacles that were filling my eyes. wow, I've always had a tendency to stop listening to this song once bring the sun was over (just due to length and not really remembering the second half that well) But oh my god, listening to the whole half hour after a couple months not really listening to Swans gave a new appreciation for this song! I never realized how harrowing and explosive the second half was, and I surely didn't remember how visceral the majority of the last leg is! the subdued drums and the immense ambiance really kept my attention when the quieter parts came out. Needless to say, I no longer think this behemoth is the "worst track" on the album. And imo, TBK doesn't have a single weak song! I love it, simple as that

Never heard of Swans, never heard of this type of music, never fully listened to a half an hour song. but this is very interesting and i'm absolutely loving it brad taste in music sent me here lol the emphasization on the buildup is so long and dragged on which makes it literally unforgettable. it is also extremely layered with just a chaos of noise such as in 19:25 where it's just an organized mess, and i love it. other miscellanous sounds (otuside sounds like the neighs) really immersed me in the song. my only complaint is that i had to pull up the lyrics seven times to just understand what he was saying lmao. all in all, i might listen to this album (if i have the time, this album is literally two hours lol)

Been reading Blood Meridian lately and this album definitely gives me vibes of the old west, the power of war, human nature, and the inevitability of death and impermanence. Some give Earth credit for making Blood Meridian: The Album with Hex (which is a good album), but I think To Be Kind comes far closer to that realization without being conscious of it, probably.

I love it, simple as that
the sound the toussaint is incredible but the in contrast overly calm transision between the songs is what makes ppl leave, echoes from pink floyd also has this character with the whale sounds if you are interested
Never heard of Swans, never heard of this type of music, never fully listened to a half an hour song.
but this is very interesting and i'm absolutely loving it
brad taste in music sent me here lol
the emphasization on the buildup is so long and dragged on which makes it literally unforgettable. it is also extremely layered with just a chaos of noise such as in 19:25 where it's just an organized mess, and i love it. other miscellanous sounds (otuside sounds like the neighs) really immersed me in the song. my only complaint is that i had to pull up the lyrics seven times to just understand what he was saying lmao.
all in all, i might listen to this album (if i have the time, this album is literally two hours lol)
Same!
It was a combination of Brad Taste In Music and Anthony Fanfano who sent me here, definitely don’t regret it.
I really like a piece of the sky - swans. it is 20 minutes long but it really puts you in a trance.
if you like what brad likes then the 2 hours are definitely worth it
just go listen to The Seer, 10x better than TBK and shorter
Timed the climax of Bring the Sun with solar eclipse totality back in April absolutely transcendent experience
SAAAMEEE it was geniuenly one of the greatest experiences i'll ever have in my life

Hi Jodorowsky.
dude to be kind in its entirety is so fucking crushing and heavy but come on, this is transcendental

The perfect soundtrack for a trip on datura.

Could be an one way ticket.
@@HerrTelef bad trips can teach you as well.
@@franciscomedeiros8662
Sure, the pain by running against the wall means: use the door, please .
@@HerrTelef bad comparison, but in this case it would teach you how to open the door instead of running head first. Bad trips, at least for me, have helped me understand more about myself and the material world surrounding me.
One trip in particular was so inspiring, that it made me enter med school (wich I am doing currently) to do research in the neurology field.
@@franciscomedeiros8662
I know what you mean and imo my comparison is not really wrong.
Was it the expierence of a bad/horror trip for your decide of a med school?
Probably the greatest run song ive heard. Gets my adrenaline pumping everytime.
All these years in all my life it’s still the best track I’ve ever heard just the raw intensity in a blanket of tears it’s just power and human
The dulcimer section around 15:15 is one the most beautiful moments in their entire catalogue
Broughthony Meheretano
I wish I could say the same, but I knew about the swans previously from my digging into sludge metal
@@mr.froglegs oh cool, did you like then then
i listened to this while studying for a midterm I had the same day. Almost had a full blown panic attack multiple times. Amazing song
Toujours aussi Humain ! quand on sait qu'ils ont influencé tant et tant de personnes et de groupes depuis toutes ces années ! Swans m'accompagnent dans ma peinture au même titre que : Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Jesu ( Justin Broadrick ), A Silver Mt. Zion . . . Merci à Michael Gira .
The obvious difference in genres aside, there's something of The Doors 'The End' about this.
lool I listened to this song many times without noticing it has lyrics in Spanish (I'm native Spanish speaker). His pronunciation is weird, especially in "Dios".
Holy crap I didn't realize that either 😂
The French is even worse (speaking as a non-native of either)
He obscured his vocals he does the same thing in English
Yeah, it's really hard for me to take the song seriously with that horrible pronunciation.
SANGRE DO DÍOS.

T-thank you swans for m-making my exam anxiety vanished. I uh... can finally face the test today
this album is a masterpiece. it was the soundtrack to my summer of 2014.
I tried really hard to finish it, but stopped around 13:00. Anxiety took me.
This used to give me anxiety too but now i love it
Come back in a few months
No shame in that. Swans’ music is deeply affecting. Give it another try when you feel ready, I promise it’s worth it.
i swear it took me multiple months to get through this experience of a song

¡Siento exactamente lo mismo pero con la civilización maya! Asombroso. Es como una especie de ritual chamanico en la punta de una pirámide. Saludos desde Argentina.
A haunted madhouse of a song that brings me, hours or days after listening to it, to repeat in my head the accusative man shouting, "Toussaint!"
this one song is longer than green days newest album.
This sound alone worth the whole Green Day discography.

i personally love these monologues from singers that reveal so much about us and about the world.
who produce so much that we prefer to keep secret. these singers and philosophers tell the truth in their drunk -
and that's exactly why they bring us, as humanity, further -
and if that is possible, please go to the stars. Enjoy it.
You are not legally allowed to skip through any part of this song.
This is the song of all time
*the most epic
Another example of Annie Clark´s subtle background vocals which adds a lot to another song on this album .
Out of this world...artwork and pure genius...THE Band = Swans!!! Sublime!!!!!!!
on second listening, this is the perfect companion to clr james' 'the black jacobins'. two meditations on slavery and revolution worth anybody's time.
Great book
the first 2 and a half minutes are like a meditation or a ritual. I don't know why I keep repeating it it's just one note but I cant stop.
listen to yummy by Justin beiber for a spiritual experience rather than this garbage
Hey Michael... I love you too man
my headphones aren't good enough quality for this
this feels so eerie and disturbing, even if i describe it, it can't be described

BEST SONG I HAVE EVER HEARD.
A masterpiece. Hypnotic and exhilarating.
Mom: “Just one more song and then bedtime, ok?”
Me: Plays this.
Blood Meridian is such a good book, I really love it, although I feel like there’s a lot of parts of the seer that fit that better than most of To Be Kind does
im so glad someone else made that connection, I always listen to swans when reading cormac mccarthy (I find that soundtracks for the blind compliments the road quite nicely)
@@exmilsitaryI was actually going to right the same about soundtracks.
The seer is a better fit imo but I can see the angle on this

I wonder what Michael Gira would say about Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles.
Interesting thing to wonder.
Hum ... I don't know if he appreciate their music... he heard it obviously, but his wave is more The Mothers of Invention or Captain Beefheart.
Immense I didn't Swans could pull off such a long track but they have with this one. Some kind of twisted classic music track. Not for the faint hearted.
