I see these and immediately start singing “Falling In Love Again” by Marlene Dietrich, which was used in advertising when the SLK/CLK debuted. My first MB was a 2001 CLK430, followed by a 2005 SLK55, both special orders and fantastic cars. Of all the MBs I have owned (14 now) the one I regret selling most is the SLK55… such a fun car, and thanks to it, I’ve had at least one AMG model in my garage ever since.
Bill, pretty SLK. I have a 2002 R170 SLK320 with 6-speed manual. 93K. It has been a bulletproof delight. I miss my three air-cooled 911’s but the SLK is a great substitute. More HP and torque than my 1980 911SC as well as a better power-to-weight ratio. The M112 V6 is one of MB’s best. Yeah the interior hard surfaces suck with the peeling paint. Your SLK addressed that. Great underrated cars .

I have a yellow one with 15K original miles. It will be interesting to see how much this one sells for. I have same deteriorating interior and also driver side door that doesn’t always close smoothly without some slamming. I bought it with 1K miles and have driven it 14K miles in three years. It has been very reliable. Except for the roof, this car is pretty analog with manual seats etc.
"Back by popular demand", Yes, I have been asking about that for a long time now. I think it really brings the car back to life in the era that it was born in. Gives some folks a sense or a reminder of life at that time.
Bill, I really like this Benz for a condo car. We’re in Saint Pete and we lost the wife’s BMW 328 convertible during Morton. I promised her a new toy and this SLK looks like the right one. Just one question for you. Has any work been done to the convertible mechanism? I’ve had an SL that the seals let loose just over the drivers seat on our way to a fancy dinner. Needless to say a lap full of hydraulic fluid changed our plan. I’ve been told they go maybe 10 years before the seals let loose. And the Daltonesque windshield comment was appreciated! Let me know what’s been done on the car of you can. Thanks for making my day again!
Top goes down - price goes up! Hi Bill; I never liked the SLK. Nice front, then ran out of ideas at the back. Great engineering though. I owned a 1999 CLK 320o in Mercedes-Benz racing silver, that's the very bright colour. You don't see many here in UK land, but nice car. Very comfortable and quick too. As always, a great video. Very entertaining but informative too.

Bill, I worked at Freeland Mercedes Benz here in Ft. Myers when these came out. These are still so unique and they sold alot of them. We also had BMW there so this was around the time of the first generation Z3 as well.

I went to the Frankfurt motor show when these were released, it was the slk200 version they had on display from memory, a red one, actually managed to get in and operate the roof with a very attractive Mercedes lady in the passenger seat. Always had a soft spot for them after that. Oh, it was the same year that Fiat released the Multipla, I remember turning around and there it was. I almost brought up my breakfast.
Bills back from semi-retirement. Tip- try some solvent on a rag, acetone or MIBK. Should cut right through that Cosmoline. Check plastic for compatibility.

Mechanical junk, but not as bad as Land Rover. Buy a GM car from the 50's to the early 70's if you want something that actually runs on a regular basis.
@beeenn649 had a few 70s sedans. But I do not close mindedly pigeon hole myself with a mindset like that. You've obviously never driven any Benz produced prior to 2000. They were quite stout excluding the stupid decision to stick biodegradable wiring harnesses in a select few years throughout the 90s.
Best thing about this particular is the beautiful body color. The engine and the sound is a disgrace. Especially for a US spec. This things needs to be fitted with the V6 or even better the non POW Kompressor AMG V8. R129 way better looking. Greetings from the Leeward Islands - also with pleasant winter temps. It's just been a favored/unique part of the car review since you started doing that and surprisingly never see anyone else doing. Plenty of people reviewing cars out there but you have the personality to make it fun every time. I always first get excited just to see there's a video posted, THEN look at what car it is. I hope that tells you something.
Bill really has a way of making me feel frustrated and angry, as he often gets towards the end of a review!...He rambled at the beginning, but as he proceeded, the car became somewhat of an embarrassment to him, with the little nit-picky flaws showing up! By the end of the video, I was feeling like he was...irritated, and wanting the video to be done with!...HA HA!....and to me, a non-Mercedes kinda guy, that vehicle smacked of being a 90s version of the original Mustang. Maybe "sporty", but definitely NOT a "sports car"!! Bill is so REAL, and I appreciate his style.

The first idea (and cheapest) is to get a padlock hasp and a cheap padlock and install on your refrigerator door.. It's a 5 minute job using a battery drill.. Maybe.. The other idea is to get a vintage soda pop vending machine and simply charge whatever you want for them.. If he wants one, he can buy it... And since you have the key, you have to stock it, but you also get to collect the income.. The car looks great with super low mileage for that vintage.. Good luck with that.
I loved these when they came out. My friend bought the S class convertible of the era but I always liked this one way much better. I got to drive both and would still take this over the s class of the day

I actually prefer them to the r129. Less things to go wrong, the hard top makes it a year around lil pocket rocket.

Howdy. The original SLK is great with a supercharger and a manual. Very under-rated, albeit not a forever car like the R107.

These haven’t aged well. Goofy look. Toy-like proportions. Compare to R129, for instance - a decade older but still has insane gravitas today.
