When you think about it, Zack could have totally gotten out of eating caviar by saying he has a seafood allergy. I'm pretty sure caviar triggers a reaction if you have a seafood allergy, and rich people have allergies too soooo

(Ik technically their dynamic isn’t much of mother-children but I just thought of this sisndidnd. Also if you can’t tell I tried to make this a parody of the parry the platypus thing)
4:12 okay but can we talk about the great characterization in this moment? We get a very conversation that very obviously outlines Zack and Ivy’s differences, making them seem as two extremely different characters instead of just stuck in that sibling duo we all know. Ivy is immediately suspicious about Shadowsan’s arrival and is very protective of Carmen, so we can infer that she’s protective of her loved ones. This specific moment makes me think that maybe she had to protect Zack a lot, growing up.
And as for Zack’s reaction, well just because he reacts excitedly, doesn’t mean there’s not much to analyze. He instantly warms up to the idea of Shadowsan on their team. Maybe it’s because he simply thinks having a ninja would be an advantage to their team, but it could also be because he trusts Carmen’s judgement. He seems like the type to easily trust and go along with his family and close friends, and know when to go along with what they say.
So when thinking about these two reactions, we can infer or guess that maybe since Zack is used to following other’s judgement, and since Ivy is definitely protective of her loved ones, they’d grew up with this certain dynamic where Ivy had to “grow up” faster to protect Zack, since they are orphans. When you also consider the fact that Ivy is a year older than Zack, it becomes more apparent that she’d probably have to be the “more mature” of the two. That doesn’t mean Zack doesn’t know when to be serious, though. We’ve seen time and time again that he’s proven himself to do great things. Like help plan out get away places, can improvise on the spot, and has great driving skills that get the team out of scraps when they need him.
Every member of team red has a specific function that adds to the team, and Zack and Ivy aren’t just comedic relief. They’re fully fleshed out characters that support the side they’re on, and even have their own motivations and subplots. As you should expect from supporting characters.
Anyways that was a long explantation I’ll get into the next clip.

ALSO I’m (not) sorry but I’m going off on a characterization rant again:
Have you ever noticed how this scene parallels the coffee shop scene in the Egypt episode? How in this scene, Carmen seems(key word: seems. She isnt here for revenge: she’s just. * tired *) to be out for blood, and she’s ANGRY like. Extremely angry. And how she just stares Chief down, knowing exactly what might’ve happened and knowing exactly what she had to do? I don’t blame her for doing this, she’s angry and tired and wants answers to her past. So she goes to Chief and demands to talk with her. She’s under the disguise that she’d join ACME and take their side in things, but we know that she can’t exaclty do that. Not when they’d tried to arrest her so many times and they’d probably restrict her from ever stealing for good, for good(pun intended).
And then in the scene in the Egypt episode:
She has a similar reaction and emotion: tiredness. She’s tired of looking for her past for so long. But this time she doesn’t burn so bright in anger, she calms down a bit and asks for her mother, in exchange for the story that she knows.
It shows that she’s so much different from how she was in season two, she doesn’t seem like she’s out for blood anymore, she’s looking for her mother and past. Of course, that doesn’t make her anger any less valid, it’s just that she’s changed over time and calmed down a bit, and allowed herself to lay out her emotions carefully, and let Chief see who she truly is.
She reveals that Chief murdered her dad. But she reassures Chief that she’s not here for revenge, like she might’ve came across as before. She emphasizes that she’s only here for her mother and doesn’t appear as a threat to ACME anymore.

5:42 someone ring the bell for THIRD characterization essay of the comment!! Ik I’ve talked about this before but I wanna say it again since it came up.
Anyways so we all know and love this iconic scene. We all know how Zack and Ivy’s behavior around other cultures seems so ignorant and they’re pretty much portrayed as the *American Tourists*™️. But as we see in season four, they behave COMPLETELY differently as to how they did before: Big Bad Ivy is a good example. Ivy gets to partake and info dumping about the next location and genuinely enjoys it, and Zack gets to partake in Shadowsan’s “ninja training” even if it’s short lived. But it’s still apparent that these two have grown over the course of the episodes and have more respect for other cultures than they did before.
