    It turned out the lifter might not have failed after all. Still not sure why the pushrod bent but the engine builder said it looks more like the piston had a hot spot due to running low octane gas. Either way this new long block is DOD bullet proofed, warrantied, and will see premium fuel from here on out.

      Congratulations getting it back... No joke though... Got a 2018 International LT, took my boos 4 months to find that stupid plastic reservoir coolant tank. Mines held together with RTV amd hope lol cracked from top to bottom with those little cute 1/4 lateral cracks plastic does all stacked all the way down. Ive been waiting for it to start breaking bolts loose. Found one yesterday finally! I totally understand. Lol

      Most likely if it had a hot spot, the plug broke first and got between the piston and valve as it was trying to open and bent the pushrod in the process

    I work for a chevy dealership in the northern twin cities. We had a customers Silverado that needed a new 6.2 for the exact same reason as you. His truck sat on our lot for 14 months before he got it back. We ended up replacing his tires as well, because they developed flat spots from sitting in the exact same spot the entire time. He was patient with us because he knew about the supply shortages, and was surprised when he found out we replaced his tires for free.

    Cylinder deactivation bs and modern choked up diesels with DEF is exactly what led me to purchase my 2022 Ford F350 with 7.3 gas. Pulls like a diesel for everyting up to about 15,000 pounds. Old school pushrods, larger coolant chambers and 400 pounds of torque at 1500 rpm and max torque of 475 at 4000 rpm. Love it.

      You made a good choice, gm 6.0 or 6.6 gas and the Ford 7.3 and now 6.8 gas are the way to go under 20k lbs.

    I bought a 2014 F150 with the 5.0 to avoid the fuel saving issue. I just dropped $6K in having my door jams cut off and new ones welded in because Ford has a leaking problem with the third brake light. Water seeps into the cabin going down to the door jams and rust the body from the inside out. Looking at the current cost of replacing the vehicle, this was a smarter investment to have it repaired. Your repairing the engine is a much wiser investment. You have the dirt roads that beat your truck up, we have huge amounts of salt that rots our trucks away....an uphill battle for longevity out of our vehicles. Thank you Ford, GM and DOT.

    No afm. That's why I love my 02 Z71 Silverado 4x4. 325,000 miles and never been apart or out of the truck. Runs quiet as a church mouse. Best truck I've ever owned. I don't baby it, I still get on it and she screams. She's well optioned, and everything still works like new. Good maintenance. That's the key, and no active fuel management.

  • @slowmoneytime1643
    @slowmoneytime1643 Рік тому

    That’s life..Yep. I bought a 2011 Ford Flex brand new. The family LOVED that Flex. The Duratec V6 engine has the water pump inside the engine and run by the timing chain. When the pump seals fail, it dumps antifreeze into the oil pan and destroys the engine. Got 8 years and 80,000 miles before it blew up. The market worth was about $8,000 but it was worth at least double that to me! The car manufacturers don’t give to two turtle doves about quality, just narrowly making the most amount of money possible.

    To be able to work on most of the engine is awesome. I have a older pick up and when it goes down, I have to pay someone to fix it. Labor is more then the parts and etc. You are so bless to be able to do this. God Bless you all.

  • @mikef5507
    @mikef5507 Рік тому

    When pulling the 5.3L we took the motor mounts off and twisted the motor around inside the frame so the fly wheel was pointed at the driver side fender and then lifted it out vs pulling the harmonic balancer. Same process for installing the motor as well.. loosen the trans Mount from the frame it’ll make reinstalling/disconnecting easier vs fighting it. I only run 93 octane, I found a couple stations here in Michigan mixing E85 with slack tanks of 87 and 89 to “get by” on a cheap side when fuel is way high in price…. And the sticker saying fuel mix with ethanol no more than 15%…. 15% is the suggested lowest amount up to 21-22% ethanol can be mixed into the fuel. I found a station here in my local town with an alcohol mix of 80% in the 87 octane pump. Saw it on my scanner and once we dropped 15 gallons of 90 octane (rec fuel) it instantly dropped to 27%. It’s all rigged…..

    08:44 - "all to save half a gallon a mile". If that engine can save four pints of fuel every mile then it has terrible fuel mileage to start with, either that or the easiest way to fill the tank is to just drive it a few miles 😉
    But, as I'm not a total pedant, I realise you meant 'half a mile per gallon' and I totally agree, that is not worth destroying an engine for.

Every day I expected it to happen but it didn’t. 2/2022 I ordered and purchased a brand new trail boss Chevrolet with a 6.2. That truck right now has 81,000 miles on it since new. But I purchased the programmer with it, the one where you go in and turn all of that stuff off and your auto start and stop also. Love that 6.2. By the way I also sent the ECM off to have it programmed. She will run.

    I have been a GM fan since my first new car in 1973. My 2016 5.3 Suburban was the first time I started doubting their quality. At the first oil change their was some kind of bulletins about porous cylinder heads. 1 had to be replaced. At 30,000 miles GM put in a new crate engine, I was smelling coolant in the exhaust. That one is ok now with another 30,000 miles. I added a 2020 GMC AT4 6.2 L to my fleet. 6.2 is fun to drive but I always use high test gasoline.
    Good luck with the truck. The kids were precious.

    Sorry for anyone confused… its not ".5 gallon a mile savings" its 1/2 of gallon "per" mile so 16 miles "per" gallon vs 16.5 "per" gallon savings. Meaning you would save 15 cents a mile. If the motor cost 10k he’d have to drive 66,667 miles in order to break even on gas savings ALONE.

Here in the colder parts of Aus where I live on the Monaro Plain, the older 2008 -2020 Mitsubishi Pajero is popular on farms and the DID 3.2L diesel is rock solid, until odd gremlins akin to yours, surface. My 2008 model is a rockstar for a daily drive and towing machinery around the yard - I did have to seek a techie to rectify an Exhaust Gas blockage and now all is sweet. While I love V8 power, I am guessing motoring history in US leans towards V8 versus straight 4.

    Yeah, got 265k on my 00 Silverado 5.3l, engine and trans original, and it still runs good (It was the only one that would start among my family members in the area during that arctic blast that ravaged Texas a few years ago (live in Kansas). It still runs great, so until it goes belly up, its my daily driver.

    I use bg 44k on my dgi car, and it keeps the carbon from building up. Liquid molly has and additive as well that helps. Amazon sells both. I use the gas additive, as well as the stuff you run through your engine when doing an oil change, work's really well. The stuff is a little pricey, but it's cheaper than carbon building up, and not allowing the valve's to close all the way, and then the varnish that builds up in the engine clogging thing's up. They sell connectors at rock auto, and on amazon for most stuff you'd need. All the plastic they use in these engine's is rediculous, because it gets brittle after a few year's and then cracks, or the o rings turn to plastic and leak. I save every connector if scraping a car, helped me with my dad's truck i inherited after he passed away last year. I scrapped a mercury milan for a friend eight year's ago, and the connectors work for the ford ranger, which has lower miles, little rust because it came from south carolina before he got it. I just changed all the hoses, power steering lines, and just did the maintenance thing's for an older truck, and hopefully it will last me awhile. G-d bless, and glad you were able to get a bullet proof engine build.

    The reason GM did the AFM is because of the EPA regulations saying the car companies need to get better fuel economy. Ford went with the turbo “Eco Boost” and GM went with the AFM. I have a 5.3L and I only run premium fuel. It idles smoother and gets better gas milage. I also make sure the premium doesn’t have ethanol in it because some companies post that the premium has ethanol in it.

    Hey Rick! loved the video, DOD still in it, eh? Is the AFM still "active" I thought there was a way to reprogram the PCM/ECM to disable Active Fuel Management? Anytime I run across the 'new' features like "Auto Start/Stop", I find ways to permanently disabling them. I have a 2001 Chevy with a Vortec with 268,000 miles.. the only thing I HAD to do, is replace the valve springs because they were worn out and weak.
    While I did that, I refreshed/replaced other things, water pump/thermostat, EGR Valve and piping, Starter motor.. and slapped new springs and joints on the front end. Standard Maintenance like fluid and oil/changes, make them last a long time.. but the 'new' electronic stuff like AFM/DOD and all the Auto/Start garbage, is just that GARBAGE. So.. I am collecting parts and building another Vortec to replace the EcoTec in another car. Full "New Tec" delete...

    Sorry you had so much trouble with the 6.3, but looks like your on the road to recovery. We have a 09 5.3 and one lifter went bad. Fortunately, only drove about 30 miles motor was ok except the lifter and the cam. Replaced the cam with a performance cam along with all new lifters, new oil performance oil pump, deleted the AFM, replaced the timing chain and gears to a three bolt gears, and plugged the oil passage at the bottom of the block to keep oil from spraying into the bottom of the last cylinders. Oil pressure is now usually around 70 psi warm and the motor will literally plant you into the seat.

    It’s easier to pull the cab than you think when you have a lift. The air conditioner compressor gets unbolted from the engine, drain radiator, remove hoses and fan, unbolt the master cylinder and leave it hooked up, the it’s a couple of electrical connectors, ground wires, and the e-brake line. Boards on the lift and pull the 6-8 cab bolts an up it goes.
