One of the most important key ingredient is the 'Korean pear" very different from western pear. It is crunchy, juicy and sweet. When you make Korean soy sause BBQ or bulgogi use this pear This makes good beef sauce great. Believe me. Every single great korean bbq restaurant, chefs, home cook nerds like me use it. You can use fuji apple instead if you cannot find this pear near you but once you use it you will fall in love with your sauce.
I love that they put so much focus on the sensory and communal experience of this. Out of all the cultures I have had the pleasure of dining with, I find that Koreans have the most emphasis on sharing joy through the dining experience with their guests. Truly inspiring!
Absolutely love it when you can share food with a bunch of family members or friends like this. Food to me is something that is an experience and I enjoy sharing it with people
Well... this was well worth the time. Korean food is singularly delicious but it was such a mystery to me as to how those flavours and textures were created. Thank you!
@Onion Dark Knight Japanese Food and Korean Food cant really be compared. Even though Japan and Korea is right next to each other the flavors are almost at the opposite spectrum. Japanese cuisine emphasizes on natural and umami type flavors, and usually enjoyed with soy sauce, salt, or miso to fit tastes. Japanese food is usually very mild but deep and let the ingredients speak for themselves. While Korean cuisine emphasizes on kick you in the face type flavors, and usually enjoyed spicy, pickled/fermented, and just a wide variety of different tastes and dishes. Korean food is usually not shy about all the different flavors deep, spicy, hot, sweet, salty, sour, all of it is present in one meal setting. The wide variety and differences in Asian cuisine is very special. Look at Europe, the most famous European cuisine is Italian and French, and of course they have differences, but yet also a lot of similarities.... While in Asia... Japanese, Korean, Thai, Indian, Vietnamese, Chinese, all of which cuisines are easily level of any european countries.
Asian cuisine is so beautiful and artistic and elegant, while at the same time being flavor packed and able to be enjoyed in such jovial open settings. Not to mention asians can DRINK. Kbbq with the right people is an experience everyone needs to try
I thought he meant business partner bc they did that very hetero bro greeting but when he said about love and feeding the person you love I was LOVING IT😍😍🌈
Bulgogi is so simple yet SO INCREDIBLE ❤ Korean BBQ really helped me expand my very "American" tastes. 😂 The smells, the sounds, the atmosphere! ❤❤❤ Being able to "pick & try" little bits of everything you're eating with everyone in your group really encourages people to explore new foods and flavors! Thanks Korea, ya'll have helped me make meaningful progress from "Fast Food Fiend" to a "True food enthusiast." Making better choices with your diet doesn't HAVE to be hard, the real trick is finding ways to keeping pushing your limits that are fun & enjoyable!
Thank you Soooo much Chef David and sir Simon for sharing your recipe here from Cote NYC, I’ve made this dish today and my family felt like we were dining in a Michelin star restaurant... it made us wonder how great the foods are in Cote NYC.. will definitely check the place once traveling is allowed in this side of the globe 🌎 😊
KIX_LOVE with great wuality meat, the fat will be throughout the meat, not like meats you buy from Walmart where the fat is in certain areas. If it’s well marbled. It’s always better meat.
I never knew that is how the galbi on the bone becomes the carpet galbi with the bone. Learn something new everyday. See you this Saturday! A spot I hit every visit to NYC.
This is true Korean bbq ....not everyone understands that it's not only about the food, which is amazing regardless - but having everyone sit around and eat together maybe over some drinks too...
His equipment might be lavish but it's his skill that shines. This guy with a 8$ knife can probably still do a much cleaner job than a novice with a 800$ knife.
If you have a deli/meat slicer, you could also cut your brisket into chunks put it in the freezer and then slice it on the deli slicer when you are ready to eat. Its actually a super easy and convinet meal. I usually pull up some chairs to the stove and then put the fan on so there's enough ventilation
Our family used to go to a local Korean BBQ restaurant and could not get enough of that beautiful meat. Unfortunately, many restaurants had closed down due to Covid.
In Korean culture, you can't drink without eating something at the same time. It is really unusual to just drink alcohol by itself which is why all food ate with alcohol is called anju. In this video, they are drinking a mixture of beer and soju called so-maek as a poktan.
한국 갈비에 폭탄주까지...으흐흐 좋아. legit good stuff right here.. I knew it was good when he started talking about the Korea pears.. that is essential.. although I've seen others use coke or sprit instead.
This guy is a true pro and so eloquent in describing the process
you can tell this guys knife skills are absolutely top notch
Funny, I was thinking the opposite.
something about watching someone with crazy good knife skills is really fun

It is the best pear in the world. Hmart sells 7 giant ones for 2 a piece. So worth it.
Is the "Korean pear" the same as what chinese people call "Sali?" where it tastes almost like an apple pear hybrid?
lewchootrain sali is thai, not chinese and no these are two completely different pears
@@QuickQuips Is Hmart a food bank??? Kidding. Giant one is about 3-4 dollars here in Korea.
@@lewchootrain I have no idea what people call 'sali'. but you can google Korean pear. Korean pear is round to western pear's longitudinal shape.
I love how the munchies staff was so excited about the grand slam
bro I love that he's so happy and smiles so much
Bro I love how you pointed that out
Bro the internet makes it seem like smiling is a rarity

This guy absolutely knows what he is doing.
The chef and his friend make this so cool! Lol down to earth and beginner friendly.. cheers!

Quick and easy and to the point. No unnecessary talking. I like it this way
Absolutely love it when you can share food with a bunch of family members or friends like this. Food to me is something that is an experience and I enjoy sharing it with people

@Onion Dark Knight Korean BBQ > Japanese BBQ
@Onion Dark Knight nah, Japanese food is missing the spice

His knife work is amazing
not really, he is pretty wasteful with the beef tbh
jaczekdertuerke - I’d be mad if my butcher left so much fat on meat I’m paying for by weight

I cannot believe how adorable everyone is in this video. (and he even cleans up at the end!)
The intro song sounds a lot like
Bas - Tribe ft. J. Cole
heard it too! or the original sampled song Zum Zum by Edu Lobo
This ones for you
I WAS JUST ABOUT TO SAY THAT
Korean BBQ is the best.
Had to make sure actual Koreans were in the video. Good job!
