    It’s good to hear that there are men who don’t become abusive even though they easily could. It really shows how trauma is never, ever, ever an excuse for abusing someone else. Abuse is a choice.

    That steering wheel story reminds me of the “blanket training “ in the IBLP🤬

  • @abbypayne4496
    @abbypayne4496 2 роки тому +29

    Amanda, what you’re describing with the baby and the wheel of the car then Daniel would beat you is called Blanket Training. The Duggars and a bunch of very conservative Christian people use it. I think it comes from Michael Pearl. There are several cases of murder via neglect and beating that have been traced to blanket training and the Pearl’s specific variety of Christian (corporal punishment) parenting.

      It's in Michael Pearl's book to "train a child". People have tried to get that book banned, it has even worse things in it and blanket training is awful.

    In body language alone, it is clear that Gerald is gay, but totally ok with himself as he is. After all the years he lived in the Polygamy world and being gay was fully denied by leaders and others in The Order, it is good to hear him talking so openly and honestly about the self discovery he made in realizing this is a part of who he is and how at least 1 other gay young man was coping in The Order as a gay young man. I do notice he wears a ring on his wedding finger- I am hopeful that this is a symbol of a marriage to a man who loves him and treats him very well.

    Daniel being a sociopath makes sense because he picks on women and children but when he’s actually challenged by someone of equal or greater strength, or someone whose going to threaten his freedom, he backs down. He wants to inflict pain and suffering but at the core he’s a coward and wants to save himself above everyone else. The Order is the perfect breeding ground for someone like Daniel to thrive in his violence because he gets to have hundreds of victims who are directly under his control because they’re his own wives and children.

    • @NotAnotherKuromi
      @NotAnotherKuromi Рік тому

      I mena he knew he was attracted to men, so I wouldn't say all his sexuality was suppressed. A lot of gay/lesbian people keep expecting to develop an attraction to the opposite sex (especially if they are told it woll 100% happen of course) but then it never does happen, so they realize they are gay.

    Have any mothers sued Daniel for child support after they left the cult? He doesn't have to be on the birth certificate for the mother to get child support. For years, in IL, when you apply for benefits they ask you to name names. They will do blood tests for men not on birth certificates. Even in the '80s they were pretty insistent on naming fathers.

    Seems like all of you ex-order members could file a class-action lawsuit against the order for all of these spurious "back account" and child support thievery. Meanwhile, someone at the top is living off of your hard work and savings. Disgusting. Keep your paperwork!

    I’m still so confused. How can the men all be thinking “I’ll have three wives!” There are not three times as many women as men. Most men don’t get any wives, right? It’s math, people, math! Are the men all deluding themselves? Or does everyone already know from childhood which boys will never become husbands? So, so, so very confused.

      Only “higher up” men get to marry women in the order. The rest have to either bring approved wives in or leave the order

      I think you are missing that it is deliberately set up to be unfair. They don’t want everyone to have 3 wives, or they woildnt be special. They dont even want all the men in the community to have 3 or more woves as they would be a potential threat to their power.
      The leaders do seem to pick on some boys because of their family reputation but I think they usually wait until they are older, to see how complacent or how much of an asset they can be, before deciding to keep them round or not.
      Of course, letting them marry little girls, who are their own family no-less, does open up the dating/prospectIve wives pool significantly.
