Clearly the value add in this hobby is, and has always been, in the box design. Sleeper boxes lined with felt or velvet, in combination tuning foam packing sheets, have always my favorite.
Comparing audiophile boxes has been the highlight of my day!

I’m so glad you touched upon this because the box/packaging can improve the audio quality of the device over time. 😉
Exactly. A package with extra foam and felt lining to cushion the player allows it to take a restful and regenerative nap in between uses. This eventually makes the player sound better, in the same way that your body performs better when you get more sleep. It is not tired and fatigued when operating. Thus, it can reproduce the notes of the music more accurately.
The Shanling box is perfect. The Fiio box, however, does not provide adequate airflow for the player to breathe. The player is placed inside a plastic bag and buried underneath layers of cardboard and instruction manuals. This seriously degrades the sound quality. If the player cannot breathe when in its box, it will cause there to be a congested sound to the audio during operation. Vocals sound as if the singer has a stuffy nose. Instruments sound like they were recorded in a small bathroom. By the time the Fiio player gets to you, it will already be out of breath, from having been stored in such a box. Skip the Fiio and just get the Shanling. It sleeps and breathes better, so you and your music can too. 🤣

How does the Shanling box compare to the Hiby R6III box?
How thin were the plastic around the boxes? I heard the one on the m3 is slightly thinner with a more agreeable feeling when touching while the other is more shiny, maybe too much for those with eye light sensitivity…looking forward to your review on that…
Flagship headphone box comparisons would be a great addition to the series.

Great review! An idea for future videos: Taking the players (or whatever) out of the box and pushing them to the side (like other reviews normally do with the boxes) because they are not part of the review could be a nice addition to the format.

I my opinion the box is not the most important but what's inside an for a DAP how it sounds.
I must say fiddly is it maybe, I like the M11S box look a lot but that height is just a deal breaker for me, the M3 Ultra gets it just right size wise. Happy creativity day to you sir 🤣

I really don’t care about boxes the only ones I know that matter are for collectible toys and watches where a box adds value but that doesn’t depend on the quality of the box.
Like ur reviews but unboxing things that are simple feels like its for kids or biginners ..
Do they pass the wife-throwing-it-away test?
The Shanling box does. If the wife throws it away, it will magically reappear back in your house. She will think she is losing it and think to herself, "I know I threw that away! Hmm! Maybe it was a dream." Then she will throw it away again. Each time she throws it away, it will come back again, til finally she will give up and tell you that the box to your Shanling player is haunted. Then you can tell her that it isn't haunted; it's just equipped with Shanling's own unique, proprietary anti-wife-throwing-stuff-away technology, which protects against unwanted disposal. This technology also protects the device itself from being disposed of, but only when it is in the box. If she throws the device away without the box, you are out of luck.
