I have a tear in my right medial meniscus and decided to stop playing until after surgery. It's very painful to swing because of the torque on my knee. I can still putt and chip but full swings are a no go for now. At the end of the day, it's a function of your pain tolerance...
Nice video Doc! I always .. ALWAYS watch your video. I'm a nurse and I love medicine. I myself have had knee injury and surgery .... !! This information is super helpful!! Thank you Doc!
I really feel like it is common sense that if a certain activity created a rip, then continuing that activity with target to that same area that created the rip will create a bigger rip or an additional rip. Not only that, common sense says that if all interdependent equipment is not intact, the other equipment is subject to an injury. If you take off in an airplane with a broken wing because the wheels are fine, when you crash you're going to break the wheels too.
Thanks for your videos! I have a small radial tear in left meniscus since Jan 13 th 2019. My left foot is also flat, and this is what I think that caused the problem. Now (Feb 07 2019) my left knee don't feel more the same than before, but I can do squat and leg press without signifcant pain. My doctor prescribed physical therapy and told me to try to go back to my activities. Now the only think that worries me is some pops the knee does.
I am having a grade-3 tear in the medial meniscus from the MRI report I feel pinching type of pain while climbing stairs or walking for longer is surgery is needed for getting back to sports? I used to do Olympic weightlifting like snatch & clean & jerk I don't have much problems with normal activities
I’ve got a complex tear, lateral side, it’s a radial tear full thickness and every video I watch on UA-cam doesn’t really discuss this everyone seems to just get a grade 2 tear
you're a badass, we are on the same page, well maybe lol. My Dr. was not too happy I had he surgery a week after the Boston Marathon.. Would you do it? I did and wore a brace.. you never know if I will ever qualify for Boston again, so I went for it. However, I walked and ran.
Thank you doc I have meniscus tear I hurt my self from sport since that I rest for 3 month and I regain my knee ability but when I start to twist my knee the pain back again please doc what I should do do prevent the surgical treatment I appreciate all helps can you give to regain my life again notice that my doctor recomand to rest and waiting to have MRI TO BE more specific thanks a lot doctor
I had a lateral meniscal tear in the posterior horn (in the white zone as per the MRI) on Feb 25 th 2017. I decided to not go for surgery. That appears to have been the right decision now. The pain has slowly subsided over the last few weeks and also my range of motion is almost completely back. I am able to run stand and climb stairs with almost no discomfort. Hope it completely gets normal but I keep wondering is my tear healing or I just happen to not experience the pain ? Hope you could throw some light on this question. From your video I guess I am not putting my meniscus in more risk of the tear getting bigger ?
jonnagadla sandeep I hope you heal soon! I had a fall in Jan 2016.. but I ended up having a right knee arthroscopy with partial menisectomy. Just remember to be safe, I know I hated the fact I needed surgery but my advice is if you need it... the sooner you get it done .... the better!! I'm 6 months out and still not 100%! Best of luck !!
I am the same. In Sep 2017 I had a lateral meniscal tear in the posterior horn (in the white zone as per the MRI). I have not had the surgery but still play netball 3 times a week and it feels fine during and afterwards. Sometimes it feels a little tender, but it is not painful, just a small reminder that I have this injury. The tear has actually made me more conscious of moving my feet in the right direction. My physio has asked me not to jump, but in netball you have to jump 100 times. So he has asked if I can strengthen the muscles around my knee instead. I am not a suitable candidate for public funded surgery so cannot have the surgery unless I pay due to my age.

Did your knee get well?
I'm pretty sure that if a movement tore something, then the same movement will make that something worse if you continue it.
