TOS-1A isn't just a flamethrower, blast of it's charges are also creating a shockwave tearing everything inside the fortification apart and reflecting off the building walls hitting from all the directions, targets that got hit are not just scorched but also often torn into pieces.
these things are just big targets that get blown up by 1K drones every single day. Crazy how worthless these are in modern warfare.

@@javir1669 The Russians practice combined arms warfare and have quickly adapted their anti-drone tech. Said drone usually gets fired upon and destroyed by another vehicle or weapon before it even gets close.
And even if it hits, the whole thing is build on a heavily armored tank chassis. The damage will be minimal.
Thus you get more punch for your investments!!

Against Thermobaric explosion which result in a sharp overpressure spike the armor of the tank will protect only to a certain degree.
You can compare it to a heavy bomb detonation near the tank.

The scariest part about that thing is that it can quite literally deny you, you very right to BREATH, if it strikes anywhere near you. As the whole thing ignites it consumes the oxygen on the vicinity.
So if it fires near your location and you have not instantly turned into soup, then that is the opposite of lucky.

An incredible war machine indeed. The devastation after a full salvo from several of those MLRS lined up together is just horrifying :X However the many drawbacks this system seems to suffer from make it`s application very narrow. I`m no military expert tho but it`s definitely the impression I`m left with.

The only thing I don't like about this weapon is its short firing range.
not anymore, 1a has pretty big range and new one even bigger range, so it didn't have armor because it fire from bigger range that enemy non-artillery weapon have.
Also low range because 80% of rocket is warhead.
Its not a flamethrower.
Its a armored katjusha.

They won't because it will rapidly increase costs and there's no need either. It's meant to lay indirect fire over a large tract of hostile territory to crush fortifications and neutralize enemy infantry.

This might be a dumb question; but apart from being on a tank platform; how is this different from the similar mobile rocket launcher system on the ZIL / Ural Trucks?

@@TheDrono The Rocket is Termobaric. The launcher is Just a launcher.
So called “survivability”, even the spot and maintenance vehicles got damaged in an barrage or air attack, the main combat vehicle and loading vehicle can survive, I believe if there is only one pair of the spot and maintenance are still functional, the whole unit with multiple flame throwing and reloading vehicles can keep on slaughtering the enemy.
Nominally, no difference from any other 220mm MLRS launch tube platforms. But since heavy thermobaric warheads are used, the range is reduced to such a point that up-armoring is required. Hence, mount them organ tubes on a tank chassis and call it a day.

That would merely be just assumptions. There aren't that many TOS-1As so it's easier for them to fully train crews for that, it's barely used since it's an NBC unit, not an artillery category.
The explosion caused by the thermobaric rounds used by these can suck out all the air from the designated area, extremely lethal without even penetrating anything.
@@blackmagnetica8714 it is definitely lethal. But it's very close range for rocket artillery type weapon.
So I'm not sure why they chose this type of vehicle. I mean after it fires a full salvo, it has no other means of engaging the enemy. So effectively toothless.
On the other hand it's on a tank chassis. So supply and ammunition vehicles can't operate along with it because they don't have similar cross country mobility to keep up.

@@fallometr как с помощью РСЗО уничтожить засевшую вражескую пехоту на 9 этаже которая скрывается в части дома которая противоположна направлению удара РСЗО.
Сценарий таков 🇷🇺Спецназ лазером отмечает 9 этаж в многоэтажном жилом массиве, установка РСЗО стоит далеко и даёт залп, ракеты летя на цель вертикально не долетая до земли и первых этажей взрывается на уровне 9-7 этажа подсвеченных лазером, враги уничтожены будут в этом случае, автоматика должна быть для этого а это просто примитивное оружие. Высокие здания, холмы, да даже окопы, мешают стрельбе РСЗО в городских боях от стандартного РСЗО вообще нет никакого толку весь урон РСЗО поглащают здания а пехота двигается туда сюда не стоит на месте, укрываясь за зданиями.
@@alexanderg5736 Дальность выстрела слишком маленькая у ТОС-1, не получится применять в условиях городской высотной застройки в любом случае. Если только близко подъехать и прямой наводкой по окнам дать, но глупо как-то, для этого есть танки и ручные огнемёты.
@@fallometr Да не один танк не предназначен штурмовать город, пробовали уже никакая модель и т.д читал статьи моделировал на компьютере танк всегда поражается в крышу башни (коктейль молотова, рпг, муха да даже крупнокалиберный пулемёт пробивает башню танка)...
РСЗО полезнее было бы но нужно 🇷🇺УМНОЕ Многофункциональное оружие приспосабливающееся под любые тяжелые сценарии боя.
А они предлогают купить ту же "Катюшу"

Они же огромные, эти нурсы, один полный боекомплект для одной боевой машины целый грузовик займёт, а ты хочешь десять видов и чтоб все под рукой на фронте. Чем больше дальность, тем меньше взрывчатки доставит снаряд и тем дороже он обходится, математика простая. У наших "Ураганов" того же калибра шире выбор боеприпасов и дальность больше, но у них противоположная проблема - они неспособны поражать цели вблизи, как раз на тех дистанциях, где работают Солнцепёки. Одна система дополняет другую, всё логично.

After seeing bodies after this was deployed i would defo say its one of the most deadly weapons on a modern battlefield...one of these is worth ten artillery, this will kill everything it lands next to regardless to what you do or how fast you run, sucks oxygen out the air killing you instantly and fries your body, why being on a front line in Ukraine sat in a concrete box or a trench is a death sentence, especially now Russia has increased the range of these and has deployed more to the front, artillery kills whoever it lands on/next to where as a TOS-1A will kill everyone in the area and can clear a whole trench thats why Russia just deployed more as a few of these will wipe out hundreds of soldiers at a time.

Most modern ATGMs have a range of 4km. Plus an APS can be installed on it.
