Veteran mom here… I am currently pregnant with my 8th. My oldest is almost 15. Research shows that you CANNOT spoil a child by holding them “too much”. Holding your baby establishes their feeling of security. So don’t worry about it; hold that baby! Having a secure relationship is the foundation on which you can build good discipline later on! They need to feel bonded and secure so that when you are training them as they grow, you have a relationship where they want to please you. If they’re detached from you emotionally, you’re in for an uphill battle. Things I learned along the way I wish I had done with my older kids. 😉

I'm sorry studies show many things that are not true... Like we come from monkeys.... Psychology is of the world. As a mother of 4 and a person who has loved many babies. who was single a lot because my husband was deployed or training. My family spoiled my daughter and it was impossible to function because she would just scream and cry if I couldn't hold her... it was overwhelming and impossible to function. My house was a mess and food was impossible. With my other children I was very careful about not spoiling them.. they are adults, who are loving kind and emotionally secure. We have a great relationship...

I love the relaxed approach to screen time at other people's houses. I think sometimes people forget that it's actually important for kids to learn that some things are just an our household expectation. It helps teach flexibility and different situations changes expectations to children at a young age.

I am an older mom - my kids are grown and I just wanted to tell you even though your kids are young, you are very wise in your thoughts on parenting. I notice so many children who don't know how to play independently and they miss out on so much getting to pretend and entertain themselves when parents feel they need to constantly entertain. And sharing responsibility with your husband is such a help. I love your channel so much!

We do road trips and our kids listen to music the entire time - it's all about how you get them used to things. We use screen time with only educational videos and as a treat. We waited a long time to introduce it - but we pace it. It's all about balance - I do think it's great that you have not introduced it yet. I love how you mention that we need to let our spouses help us also - because we tend to not let them help because we do think we can do it all... Thanks again for a great video and have a blessed day!

A couple of activity ideas for young kids (I taught preschool, K and TK before I retired) : 1. A precursor to cutting with scissors is to tear paper into shapes (hearts, circles, squares, pumpkins, fish, etc). My classes use to love to tear newspapers into spirals. 2) Instead of shaving cream, mix up for your kids their favorite flavor of instant pudding and let them finger-paint with it on a cookie sheet. They'll love the clean-up process with licks of fingers and smiles all around. 3. Bath time can be a fun occasion when you add plastic measuring cups/spoons and funnels to their tub. If you have summer water toys that aren't too big, they could be added as well. They'll be happy to stay until they are squeaky clean! Blessings, Janell

I love that you have a no screen time policy. We have a very low screen time use in our house. 1 show a day for my kids on our tv. We have seen such a difference between our kids and their cousins who have unlimited screen time. Our kids have are way more creative and they are able to entertain themselves when it may be a boring situation. This has motivated me to stick on my current path. Keep doing what you're doing! We are unicorns!

You can't EVER spoil a baby - especially not by holding them! There's no such thing. It's all about secure attachment and that is what babies need. They need absolute security and safety in knowing they're being attended to when they make themselves heard by crying for example. Spoiling is a concept that only exists for kids when they develop a sense of the world around them - of what other people want and need and that only even begins to develop around 4-5 years of age. And even then, that development has only begun.

I am so glad you talked about boundaries with kids. This is one on going discussion within my family we agree to disagree on! I am all about the boundaries. I think the only advice I can give new moms or moms with little ones (mine are 11 and almost 17) is take time for you. Do not feel the need to complete everything in one day. Being a mom is exhausting and there will be plenty of time to get house work done. Make games with the kids (if old enough) with cleaning up or putting laundry away. I used to do that with mine when they were little and would end the night with a movie and they loved it. Not such now because they are older 🤣🤣. Love the video!!

I raised my children before the Internet was available and they really learned to play. We didn’t have videos or tv either. I’m thankful it worked out like that. You gave great activity ideas and it was fun to hear you suggest a clean-up jar. We did that too. I added catalogue pictures to each one so that my pre-schooler knew what the paper said. I was an extra high-energy child and I needed my naps but hated to lay down for a nap. Mum made a no nonsense rule that I must rest for an hour after lunch. I could look at books but I had to lay down and not leave my bed. I fell asleep 80% of the time and that saved everyone a headache. I was napping like this until kindergarten and that made me value nap/quiet time when it was my turn to mother little ones.

If you don’t mind spending more for less product but 100% more convenience, you have to look up Wholly Guacamole avocado cups. It’s just avocado, not guacamole (that’s just the brand name) and it comes in little plastic cups in a pack of 6 and it’s the perfect amount for avocado toast and is already ripe and sealed so it lasts super long in the fridge. Miller is so adorable! I agree with you on screen time, but I grew up before personal computers were even available to the public, so what do I know? haha.

I make a habit of filling mine up at half tank. This gives a good buffer and once you get in the habit it works well.

I love this video. It has so many wonderful parts! I always enjoy seeing your groceries...sometimes I add an item or more from m yours to my list! Also, I like your fashions. Your baking was lovely; and I doubt if anyone thought there were too many blueberries in the muffins...they look delicious! This was a great bonus blog and it was great!

I have heard that if you have a lot of screen time it rewires the same brain paths as the drug herione does. And you get addicted to.
Keeps your kids away from screen time as long as possible. Our 16 yr just got a phone (and that’s because he has a job and has started driving) and that is very hard to do because all his friends had a phone looong before that age.
We adopted our 2 youngest kids at 2 and 3 yrs old, and they were used to sitting in front of the TV all day long. We had to teach them how to play and now they only get to watch a movie once a week (which they still don’t understand at 6 and 7)

My biggest parenting regret is around screen time. I wasn’t super strict but it was fairly limited as we only had an old tv to watch. Then a couple of years ago at the start of the lockdowns I got a couple of tablets and by the time everything went back to almost normal, nearly 2 years later, my kids were so different and obsessed with the screens.
The first month back at school I unplugged every device and put them in storage for 30 days. The tablets were broken and I haven’t replaced them. It’s a great way to reestablish boundaries and reset the kids if you have let screen time creep up higher than you are comfortable with.

I was staying at a small cottage in Pequea overlooking the Susquehanna the weekend of that snow squall. . . it was fascinating to watch it come over the river. Thanks for the idea of bins for activities my now 5 year old could totally get out a limited number of paints and papers to paint with if I had everything in a bin!

Totally agree with you on husbands helping with your new baby and kids. I was the same when I had a new baby. Actually my husband had way more experience than I did when we started having kids. Dads of course will do things differently and that’s a good thing. By the way I’m a grandma of ten grandkids now and my advice would be to “ not worry so much”. I also told the kids when I was working. I never thought I needed to entertain my children, and they all turned out very creative. Anyway, good job, you are a wonderful mom. I enjoy watching you as it gives me hope for the next generation! God bless!

You might try turning the Bundt cakes over after they cool completely; holds the drizzle better and looks more like a mini-cake. The recipe sounds delicious!

Also if you freeze blueberries before you bake with them they don't release as much water and don't spread as much and you get nice little blueberry dots in your cake/muffins
