In 2014, we had AT in Fort Bragg with a Army Petroleum unit that did NOT follow the tradition of letting their lower ranking personnel eat first. I’m sure most Army units follow tradition, but I can say from experience not all of them do. As for the negative comments labeling me as a POG reservist, I honestly don’t care... I don’t claim to be anything I’m not. I make these videos to inform others.- everyone is entitled to their own opinion and comments. But let’s try to keep this positive. As military members (reservists or active) we’re supposed to maintain a certain level of professionalism. Let’s not forget that when we’re making public comments on behalf of a UA-cam account :)
What unit at Bragg was this? I was stationed at Bragg from 2008 til just last year when I got out. I'm still in NC too, decided to stay here. Every unit I was in or ever visited made name sure lower enlisted ate first because they needed more fuel and food first.
Rodney Horsley can’t remember but it was an Army Petroleum unit that trained with 6th ESB Marines at Bragg in summer of 14. Will never forget because they were responsible for bringing the fuel but that never happened for whatever reason so we (6th ESB) improvised and trained with water instead... they did bring the field shower facilities though! Didn’t even know that was a thing but I was sure thankful for those guys :)
Rodney Horsley it happens in every branch, unfortunately. It’s not just an Army thing. Some of the brightest and most dedicated people I’ve worked with were prior Soldiers. I didn’t mean to put down the Army with this one example, that’s my fault for not choosing my words more wisely. Thank you for your comment.
I did two tours on active duty (1996-03) and never really thought about the reserve component. Thanks for opening up that world and letting us get a peek inside. Excellent video.
jed villanueva thanks man I appreciate your support. Please let me know if you want to see me answer any specific questions in these videos that you might have
hey bud im in the Army Reservist, just thought I'd let you know that in the Army our higher ups lookout for us too, like lower enlisted eating first. That's so crazy, I'm also a petroleum supply specialist.
mcguirej869 we did a joint training exercise with an Army unit and during chow it was first come, first serve for them. I was surprised because in Marine basic training, we're taught that we don't eat until our subordinates eat. Perhaps it varies by unit but I'm glad to hear that is enforced in the Army as well!
Sheldon Lee you might be right about that, because I've only been in two units and its been that way. Anyway if it's okay to ask, where is your unit? I think I've only seen one Marine reserve unit in Los Alamitos, CA.
mcguirej869 Delaware. It's a small unit next to the DE National Guard and Air National Guard. As far as Marine Reserves units go, I know they're not as many in a region since we're the smallest branch.
Hey Leatherneck, thanks for the memories... Wow, I hated drill weekends... Now that i've been out for 20 years I would love to get back in the Corps... BUT I'm too damn old... If you are in the Corps, never leave the Brotherhood.
Thank you Corporal Lee you showed plenty. This video really gave me some peace of mind with enlisting as a reservist. I ship to MCRD SD in two weeks only concern I have now is hoping I don't come out working at a Walmart or McDonald's during my term because I joined to do better things such as serving this country.
4th LAR here, love the videos man. You take a lot of shit from active duty but any good SNCO I've met who've been on deployments, gotten CARs, and all that good shit don't see a difference in the title of United States Marine. I had a combat instructor in ITB who reminded everyone who bragged about being active (there were a lot of reservists in the training cycle) that our Secretary of Defense, Ret. Gen James Mattis, started out as a reservist. He also mentioned how he deployed with reservist Marines and trusted them with his life and could depend on them. Semper Fi.
other branches do the same in regards to field mess.. Funny story, the whole "lowest rank eats first" thing in the marine corps comes from the old ship life days. The lowest ranks would eat first so they can start washing the cutlery and china...
Ky Mac from my experience? Very strong. Even though we only see each other once a month, I know I can call on the guys I work with for anything if I ever need it, and vice versa. This is a great topic I can bring up in a future video. Thank you for that!
Don't mislead the people. Grunt life in the fleet is completely different in every aspect. I did 5 years active at Lejeune in the grunts and it's nothing like a normal job absolutely nothing. I loved it miss it regret leaving. Should have done 20 years.
Thank you for the information. I'm shipping July 17 and I could not find very much information on UA-cam pertaining specifically to the reserves. I've subbed. Keep it up!
3051 Stationed in Hawaii right now, on a FAP to base facilities with the SEABEES looking for leadership advice and I think I found it. THANK YOU CPL!!!
Hey,just found your channel. I'm 15 from arizona and plan on joining the reserves and going straight into duty after graduation. your channel has helped me learn quite a bit in a short time. thanks man.
DCO Nightingale why would you want to? You’re going to be training and working. It’s only two days. If you can’t stand being away from your spouse for two days, that marriage isn’t going to last if you get deployed
The chow thing isn't just the usmc. I am army and our ncos make sure every soldier eats before them. At least in the infantry but I am sure pogs do it too.
If you could answer my question? "my job will place me on a leave of absence... How long is the whole process for boot camp. Mos, etc. I'm currently looking to enlist as a reservist for the marines or air force.
Pro tip: never record in front of a bright background (you face is blacked out). 2) "fix" the camera. I was getting sea sick in the last shot. Good content.
I do have a question for you Sheldon. My boyfriend is a marine and he's at drill this weekend. Yes be at drill at 0600 and I was wondering how long drill will last for a day? Like does it last for like 2 hours or 5 hours, how many hours in one day does drill last?
Idk where you got the idea that in the other branches of services lower ranking soldiers don't eat first. I'm in the Army and I can assure you, all lower enlisted are the first to eat. Great video but double check facts there corporal.
Brendan Carlos I addressed this in another comment and admitted my lack of awareness on my part. Double check the thread before you contribute something that’s already been contributed. Thanks bud
Sheldon Lee Yeh same here man. I just subscribed to your channel. So when you get 100k Imma reply to this post and say 'Congratz Mate' so Yeh hopefully within less then a year lol
Fernando Atuaia hahah I highly doubt I'll even get close - I'm honestly doing this just as a hobby and to inform people. But thanks man I appreciate the encouragement and I'll def remember you. I really do try my best to reply to everyone, it's what makes doing UA-cam worth it for me.
Never have i let one of my joes eat after me. Plenty of times I’ve given my plate of food to my lower enlisted, and/or have bought food for them out of my own pocket.
Okay so when is the last day you have to be at drill and then go into IRR? Is it the dates you went up to MEPS to enlist or the day you get to bootcamp?
I’m thinking about doing the marine reserves or National guard for the army or af Because I want something part time and i heard you only get to leave like 1 weekend or week in the summer or something and i thought that was cool My only question is what’s the difference between the reserves and National guard? Which ones better ? Or has more or a chance of deploying? I wanna stay near home kinda
I’m doing 0311 Marine Reserves or Active duty 03xx but considering we’re not at war atm I’m leaning heavily toward reserves (and my reserve unit has had some recent Afghan deployments which I may get to go in). How does choosing your mos work for the reserves? I heard you could directly select a mos like 0311 instead of the field 03xx. How does choosing your mos work for the reserves? And what gear do you get from your reserve unit ? Such as plate carrier and backpack Also do you think I’ll have a problem getting 0311 for my reserve unit? I heard there has to be a slot open to get it. My reserve unit in my state is 1st Battalion 24th Marines Infantry Battalion. There’s 3 of the 5 companies in my state ( HQ & Service, Alpha and Charlie are in my state and the weapons and Bravo is in surrounding states). One of my fears of doing 03xx is getting selected to be something other than 11 or 31. 41 doesn’t interest me at all.
if I don't want to ship DURING a college semester do I just join DEP? I don't want to take off a semester & not ship and waste my time, but I don't want to be shipped mid semester either.
The Army Belle so ship date actually depends on the MOS you decide. Some MOS have many open slots that need to be filled so ship date might be earlier, or another MOS might not have a slot until later. It's hard predict - I would contact a recruiter to find out what's available at the time. Hope that helps!
Danthony Mitchell I did not study for it, but I was taking college courses at the time so I thought I was prepared enough. As a fresh hs graduate, I would study for it. 74 and above qualifies you for every single job in the military.
I’m doing 0311 Marine Reserves or Active duty 03xx. How does choosing your mos work for the reserves? I heard you could directly select a field like 0311 instead of 03xx. And do you get gear from your unit?
Can you expand a little bit on the EGA distribution to recruits after finishing crucible? We didn't have any of that when I was in. We didn't call it a crucible, we weren't issued EGA, only were considered a Marine after graduation, and we left that same day. No MCT after boot camp. Is this EGA that seems like somewhat large, is it symbolic? Is it wearable? Only EGA I remember was the one that went on our Mickey Mouse covers. And can I get one somewhere? I've posted some videos of Parris Island stuff, check it out.
Are reserves and National Guard mostly older people that have been in active duty prior? I'm asking because I'm joining right after high school this year at 18 and want to hang with people my age. I may just go active if that's the case then go reserve when I'm older too.
They are filled with all types of people from all walks of life. Rest assured, you will find that they are mostly interesting people with their own backstory and life story as to why they are doing what they do. If you want to join the military, however, you should be less concerned with hanging out with people your age and be more concerned if the people you are with will do their job right when 💩 gets real.
Rah Corporal. Just wondering how promotions are done when trying to rank up to E-4. I’ll be home in a couple of month to check into my duty station and still kind of unsure. Any information would be great. Thank you.
The video was great, but you need to do more research on other branches. Your format was great but your content had some key flaws that im sure other active duty like me and vets will notice. Just like my leaders say dont blow smoke and u wont get smoke. But great video man and keep it up i see u got a future in this.
In 2014, we had AT in Fort Bragg with a Army Petroleum unit that did NOT follow the tradition of letting their lower ranking personnel eat first. I’m sure most Army units follow tradition, but I can say from experience not all of them do.

Thats terrible, I never ran acrossed a unit or had a experience like that. I'm sorry they made the Army look bad, let alone being active duty.
In my eyes, it doesn't matter if you're active or reserve; because you are still a U.S. Marine. Semper Fi!
I did two tours on active duty (1996-03) and never really thought about the reserve component. Thanks for opening up that world and letting us get a peek inside. Excellent video.
Yo bro, your videos are very underrated man. Your videos helped me a ton. Keep doing these vids and never stop grinding.
jed villanueva thanks man I appreciate your support. Please let me know if you want to see me answer any specific questions in these videos that you might have

Sheldon Lee ahhhh that makes sense, well thanks for replying man. Hope all is going great.
mcguirej869 thanks man you too. Keep grinding - supply is where it's at! Haha
The US Army also taught us to ensure that our soldiers are first. As a CPT, I always ate after my soldiers, that was a given.
Hey Leatherneck, thanks for the memories... Wow, I hated drill weekends... Now that i've been out for 20 years I would love to get back in the Corps... BUT I'm too damn old... If you are in the Corps, never leave the Brotherhood.
Love all this, literally motivating to follow down the same path

That cover was extra motivating.
I'm in the Army and we also let lower enlistment eat first 👍
Your food looks a shit tone better then what my boi who's an active marine eats lmfao 😂
MARCO PARRINELLO haha that's because we pay for catering.
4th LAR here, love the videos man. Your videos gave me alot of insight before i make my decision to join as a reservist. Great vids!
Emmanuel no problem - glad to hear that
How strong is the brotherhood in the Marine reserves? Just wondering what your opinion is, great video
Ky Mac from my experience? Very strong. Even though we only see each other once a month, I know I can call on the guys I work with for anything if I ever need it, and vice versa. This is a great topic I can bring up in a future video. Thank you for that!
Ky Mac :)
Don't mislead the people. Grunt life in the fleet is completely different in every aspect. I did 5 years active at Lejeune in the grunts and it's nothing like a normal job absolutely nothing. I loved it miss it regret leaving. Should have done 20 years.

hahaha classified stuff as a supply cpl.... the only thing that MIGHT count as "classified" is the whereabouts of all the GORETEX bottoms!
JayKibi that’s what I was saying! 😂 supply in the reserve component none of your shit is classified 😂 even in the fleet it’s not classified
He just doesn't want to show how gay and boring his job is.
HahhaH
Was such a pog thing to do, damn shame

Weekend in the life of a Marine Reservist: Hide in the bathroom and car between "training"
great vid man! channel's pickin up some momentum!
Important question: Can a married Marine Reservist bring their spouse with them to drill weekend?
DCO Nightingale why would you want to? You’re going to be training and working. It’s only two days. If you can’t stand being away from your spouse for two days, that marriage isn’t going to last if you get deployed
The Noods Just asking. Sometimes it’s more than just a weekend.
Yeah one weekend out of the month and two over the summer months.

Timothy Halleran thank you I appreciate the support 🙏🏼

Not all the time, I have mg soldiers always go before me but, that because I take care of my Joes. But not all my higher NCO's follow that method.
Saw your comment on nicks channel lol good stuff bro.
Fernando Atuaia thanks man I appreciate the support. I've been following him for the longest time lol
Sheldon Lee Yeh same here man. I just subscribed to your channel. So when you get 100k Imma reply to this post and say 'Congratz Mate' so Yeh hopefully within less then a year lol

Sheldon Lee hahaha hobby or not you'll never know what the future might hold. Good luck man 👍
Never have i let one of my joes eat after me. Plenty of times I’ve given my plate of food to my lower enlisted, and/or have bought food for them out of my own pocket.
This guy really said supply has classified options lmao
It's in the same in the Army. Our leadership always ate last
Leaving first week of December. I'll be doing reserves as well when I'm back here in Arizona.

Well spoken and video well shot. Good to go devil. YUT!
Great video, this has changed my mind for the best! Thank you sir!
Daniel you're welcome!
What made you want to be a reservist rather than active duty?
Hey man, just subscribed, your videos are great. Just wondering, what camera do you use?
Is the drill weekend always at the Marine Reserve Unit or someplace else?
Lol fucken pog. Thank you for your cervix
Im surprised they dont have you racking up at the drill center.

I cant wait to be working with the Lav25's
So, they will pay the full amount of your hotel stay if you're a 50-miler?
Love your videos. I leave in December!
I've stayed in that hotel for months before, it's a pretty nice place.
Im js in the Army our lower enlisted eats first and our higher ups eat last
Awesome Video ! Do you think you can briefly touch upon the engineer mechanic side
Mauricio Leon I'm not very knowledgeable in that department but I'll try to get one of those guys in future videos. Thanks for the comment!
On the subject on 4:35 by you saying you have the guys eat before you do, but don't seniority works too?

denis flores yes you can and you’ll get paid double when on active duty
How you going to call yourself a squad leader and cheer up
The video was great, but you need to do more research on other branches. Your format was great but your content had some key flaws that im sure other active duty like me and vets will notice. Just like my leaders say dont blow smoke and u wont get smoke. But great video man and keep it up i see u got a future in this.
