A family friend of ours was part of Liverpool (NY) PD and told me that what they derived from the investigation was that the 'assailants' were likely from Fort Drum Army base (about 1 hour north of the club). Shawn was highly inebriated and what they had heard was he grabbed some woman at the club inappropriately and the boyfriend wanted to kick Shawn's ass. The wrestlers tried to hightail it out of there and the boyfriend saw Shawn in the car and dragged him out and beat the shit out of him by himself. The other 'assailants' were there to make sure the other wrestlers didn't step in.
Essentially he didn't get beat up by 9 marines. He got beat up by 1 army soldier.
Yeah, that's pretty much the consensus now. By all accounts, Davy Boy couldn't be the equalizer because he couldn't get out of the back seat of the two-door car.

I've heard from people at the scene that the fight was one on one and the others just stood and watched to make sure Davey or the others didn't jump in. Shawn couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag.

One guy beat him up. And he didn’t drop the belt clean to dean Douglas. Douglas even said before the ppv that michales showed up with his face unscathed then had makeup during his relinquishment.

I have gotten to meet the Harris brothers and talk to them for a while, they are indeed very nice guys. And you get them talking about Smokey Mountain wrestling, they can talk for hours with smiles on their face.

That's a naive attitude. Wrestling is entertainment. It's not meant to be taken as a literal sport. If it were, guys like Haku, Ken Shamrock and Steve Blackman would be beating up Austin, Rock and Undertaker every week.
When this went down the report was hbk was trying to hook up with either the waitress or bartender, the service men were there and that was one of their girlfriends. Trash talk happened when the military guys started saying how fake wrestling is . Who knows what was said in return. When they were outside the guys blocked Davey Boy from leaving the car while HBK was jumped.

I'm sure it happened, it's part of a police report, whatever details may or may not be true is another thing. I'd bet it's safe to say though that knowing what Shawn Michaels was like back then, as someone who almost got his ass handed to him on more than one occasion because of his bs and attitude (to steal a phrase) probably got what was coming to him, and I'm sure that the boys in the locker room weren't very surprised at all!
