I like your method for placing appliqués. I like to use a light box box but it doesn’t work with all colors of fabrics. I will try your method.

Awesome video, Laura! These are amazing tips. Great thoughts on how to piece your background to make it large enough for all of your pieces and specifically how to remedy it if you need to piece it. And what a great tip on how to get the pattern to quit rolling up! I would never have thought of doing that and would have been struggling to get it to stay flat to get it pressed! I love doing appliqué but have never done such large pieces! Thank you for sharing your expertise!

When I do fusible web applique I put a piece of parchment paper over the design fuse all the pieces for a particular part then place the whole fused item where it needs to go on the fabric.

@SewVeryEasy ~ This was such an excellent tutorial Laura! I have two large scale "Impressionist Style" collage art quilts I'm getting ready to start. My inspiration comes from the quilts created by Susan Carlson. I recently purchased her book "Serendipity Quilts" and it's spectacular! Each collage quilt artist has their own techniques for placing the fabric. I decided to dip my toe into this type of quilting by beginning with patterns....one is by Laura Heine and the other is by Emily Taylor. I found your tutorial VERY HELPFUL and took away many tips and tricks that will serve me well in these projects! Thanks you so much! ~~Christy~~

Thank you so very much for this video. I have learned so much. I wish I had this a year ago. If you or one of your viewers could give me advice please. I am hand sewing a very large quilt with many appliqués, the largest are photos 4 1/2 x 6 inches and I have three landscaping picture blocks. I have a panel which I have pieced as the backing. How can I quilt the three layers together effectively without going through the appliqué on either side. The quilt is intended for use on a bed for my grand daughter and the longer the lockdown continued, the bigger the quilt became. Both front and backing are fairly complete and I will start quilting the layers together. I’m very inexperienced and this is my very first quilt and first sewing project ever. I am a nurse and I started sewing to get me through the lockdown in Australia. I would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

This was an awesome video, thank you. I’m thinking of appliquéing a large printed scene onto a velour throw? I’, wondering if I might be best to back it first. I’ve never done this before but the idea came to me as a quicker option than my usual quilting.

Great tips! I'm working on my fmq skills and would like to eventually use a solid color silk and variegated thread to make a jacket. Any tips or ideas? I've seen several quilted jackets made using sweatshirts as the jacket pattern, but don't know if it would work for the silk. Should I use silk batting to make the fmq stand out? Any tips or ideas would be appreciated! Thanks!

Fun project Laura. I noticed the large pressing mat, can you please tell me where you purchased it? I've searched online and the largest I find is 22 x 60. Yours looked larger than 22 inches. Thanks.
Your background piecing suggestion was very good, loved your tips on placement.

Hi Laura, I have a question. I've noticed in some of your older videos that you were using a Baby lock machine. I purchased my Baby lock Aventura II. Have you switched from Baby lock to Bernina? I basically learned to sew in factories and have been sewing for 60 years. I also have my Singer 626 that still sews beautifully but I wanted an embroidery machine also. I also have a Baby lock serger which I love. I learned a long time ago there is always more than one way to do things. By the way, I love your videos. I also taught basic sewing through our local Community College for a while but I still enjoy learning. Keep up the good work. 👍❤️

I love the pattern and your fabric choices! 😍 Thanks for this very informative video...l learned a lot! Not to be negative, but.....if those are scissors on the truck door, wouldn't it need holes in the handles? To me it kind of looks like those beading pliers without the holes. Anyway, great job as always, Laura! 😊👍
