    Oil is used to transfer heat from insert to outer tube that's what I was told years ago.

    Awesome job just done the same front and rear on my VT Clubby. BTW you can’t anodize steel the hardware would have been cadmium or zinc plated. Anodizing is for aluminium. Looking forward to watching the journey 👍

    The struts don’t have inserts from factory the oil is old from the original setup and the notch in the spring retaining plate needs to face the stub axel or else it chucks out your camber

    Nah bro, no oil supposed to inside the struts. New inserts and your done. Definitely no oil! To tighten bearing plate compress the spring until the bearing plate seats all the way down. Hold the top of the strut insert with with multi grips or vice grips and use a ring spanner to tighten completely. Release the spring compressors slowly. Recheck tightness of bearing plate nut when vehicle is back under full weight on the ground

    Lost my shit when the kframe bush went flying when you first hit it 😂. Out of curiosity do you have to raise the suspension to ride height before tightening everything up?

      yep jack each wheel up to ride height before sending everything with the impact gun

    Great video as always, I like how you own the mistakes you make and don't pretend everything goes perfectly (we all know nothing goes to plan lol).
    With the new front end bushes you didn't mention it so not sure if you know, it's best to leave them loose and tighten them properly once the weight is on the front end.

    whoever replaced those original oil front shocks with gas just probably didnt empty out all the old oil, gas ones go in dry.

    vl and vn were origanly filled with oil with hydrolic shocks , most are now gas shock inserts that why the oil would be in there
