- There are still scenes of panic and chaos near Kabul airport, following the Taliban takeover of the Afghan capital on Sunday.
The BBC's Secunder Kermani reports from outside a secure compound near the airport, where British passport holders are waiting to be evacuated.
One Uber driver from west London tells him that he's been waiting for three days, with his two children.
The UK government says thousands have been rescued from Afghanistan, and "the operation is becoming faster".

And secondly the problem isn't to do with Afghanistan but with the US. the US installed a corrupt puppet government presetting the stage for the return of the taliban. I believe we were never there for humanitarian reasons but rather more political and just because that political agenda has changed, human beings, including our soldiers should not pay the price. We are all aware of the cultural differences therefore, if they did not want change in their own country, what makes us believe they will change in a western society. People's hearts are being tugged at the sight of the crowd of people desperate....but it was a similar sight with the war in Syria....same with Kosovo....yet if these people get to USA, what kind of life can they expect - USA is in the middle of a pandemic that they cannot seem to get a handle on....each governor behaving like a Warlord Chief, with no Federal plan to follow, because suddenly USA is no longer the United States of America...and nobody knows what it is....the pandemic has shown the hands of the Warlords, as well the voting rights drama, where they want to be the one to declare who wins a Presidential election in their State....add to that the coming out into full view the "white" supremacists....will their hearts be bleeding for these unfortunate people in Afghanistan....will the "Karens" be waiting to welcome them?! Some of those people might wish they had stayed in their own country, no matter how bad it got!'

The Taliban may have been a 'ragtag' group of men who now hold power in Afghanistan....they met in place a lot of good infrastructure and systems ...they would like to be seen and treated as respected government officials, instead of how they used to be. So they want to be recognized, they want to be allowed use of global financial and economic systems that are (banking, imports, exports) allowed by the West provided that they comply with certain basic human rights ( is USA practicing Human Rights at this time....that UNCHR has gone very quiet, maybe they dropped out from that org.!) and the Taliban want to use government workers who were working for the previous government. It does not seem like they want to function like people living in tents in the desert, sleeping in caves anymore...some of them are getting old and would like the comfort of a bed to sleep in. There is also a resistance movement who now realized that they too should have a voice....so as everyone knows in government and politics there must be compromise, and maybe the Taliban are no different. They will have to rein in some of the young hotheads on the street, currently beating up Afghans, because they could derail the compromise deal with the West!!

It's so sad to see these kind of situations. Their government left them without any preparations. These people just wanted peace and loving their country and now in a hurry to leave because of the threats their are facing, learning from the history. Looking at the faces, saddened me, especially the crying children. Some foreigners were also sufferings and trapped in the commotions that they don't expect. My prayers to these people to go home in peace and some people to reach their destinations with faith and courage. 🙏

USA and NATO fought 20 years to replace Taliban with Taliban, only difference is that Taliban now are stronger and better equipped than EVER. The so called 'resistance fighters' were sleeping when Taliban were advancing towards Kabul. They will either join Taliban Govt or will be overrun by Taliban fighters.
It will be nice if you call Taliban as terrorist instead of fighters.
My issue here is, if we can't beat the Taliban now, how would we be able to beat them in the future? I mean come on, they and the Nazis are barely any different. @@timofte566 what are you talking about? The U.S army pushed back the Taliban from Afghanistan in Dec 2001. They stayed to help the Afghan government and train their military. 20 years the Afghan soldiers surrendered as soon as the Taliban showed up, not to mention the President left town.
