Honestly a great trade. The rebuild could be incredibly prosperous, especially with how well the Baby Penguins have been playing. The future is incredibly bright.
Yes. Collecting draft picks is nice but we still have to hit with some of those picks.
Bad take bro. Petterson is a pending UFA and we managed to get a first round pick for him. The rangers are currently a middle of the pack team, so that pick might result in a top prospect. Drew O’Connor is in the middle of his worst season as a Penguin. In return we get a decent prospect, and a big defensemen and the former mentioned first round pick. Not a bad trade at all. Far from a fleece.
I agree, the prospect is 18 playing in the Swede pro league already, tremendous shot, not creating skating is what I read
I mean I did say on second thought that I did not think it was a fleece. This was my initial reaction to the trade and I did not have any time to think it through before commenting. Around the 4-5 minute mark I said nothing but good things aside from being upset O'Connor is gone.
@ that’s fair
Penguins win the trade no matter. Two pending UFAs. Got a first.
I would say it's about even because you guys have to absorb 2 players with 2 year contracts that were dead contracts for vancouver
Agreed!!!! O’Conner and Petterson gone didn’t do anything
@@VolcanicProtectorMantrue…. a great trade.
U got Vinny d bro I wouldn’t say u won
@ O’Conner can’t shoot the puck into the ocean and Petterson is soft you’ll see.. hopefully I’m wrong.. it could be all sullivan also..
Getting a first round pick was crucial.
Agreed even though it is a conditional pick.
This is conditional pick.
@@PeterDimitra correct
Canuck fan here. Vinny D is terrible, if he’s in your lineup you are in trouble.
Our defense is so bad already that he cannot physically make it any worse than it already is.
@@PenguinsDigest You will be happy to witness the big body checks from this guy, but be warned he only averages 2 hits per game.
I like it. DOC hasn't done much with his opportunity, so why keep him. Petey was as good as gone anyways, so to get a 1st plus Danton who knows the Sullivan systema put up 18 goals is a good addition, plus a big SOB of a d man is great. Plus the 1st can be moved to next year if the Rangers place in the top 13 this year, which would be fine because next years draft is supposed to be deeper. very nice
I admit I am still trying to process it but the more I think about it I think Dubas did the best he could to maximize trade chips.
DOC sucks....so happy they moved this bum
Connor has blocks for hands, pens probably flipping heinen this deadline or next 🙄 we are rebuilding get used to it
Dubas did fucking great, a 1st for a ufa that won't sign is crazy good
We received a top 13 pick, a prospect who went beginning of 3rd round, a huge tough defenseman, and Heinen for Petterson and O'Connor.....not too bad!!! Thank you Dubas!! Now, depending on where we end up we could have 2- top 10 picks guys! Its time to bring up a couple players from Wilkes!!!
The pick is top 13 protected. If it's top 13 in 2025, it becomes an unprotected 2026 first.
not a top 13 pick. 14-32 pick
It can't be a top-13 pick because it is protected. The Rangers would essentially have to make the playoffs for us to get their pick otherwise it switches to a 1st rounder next year.
Deharnais is the worst. I'm very happy he is gone.
I think he is almost guaranteed to be better than Ryan Graves so I'll happily take him.
@PenguinsDigest I haven't seen Graves play much. Deharnais is slow, takes stupid penalties, can't make a pass, or clear the puck, and for a guy who is 6'7, he isn't nearly physical enough. My honest opinion is he shouldn't be in the NHL
Penguins get a 1st+prospect and 2 depth guys for 2 UFA. Great deal by Dubas
Vancouver is crazy basically they got Pettersson+Chytil+OConnor for Miller.
It was indeed a good trade by Dubas because he was not willing to nudge off of wanting a first rounder and he got the first rounder he wanted.
@PenguinsDigest
What do you think best moves are left for penguins? Karlsson,Rust? Try get younger and keep Sid/Letang/Malkin?
Or rebuild
Oilers fan here.
Desharnais is a class act.
Treat him right, and he will be a leading defenceman.
Don't judge him by what went in in Vancouver.
That was a circus.
I'd have him and Kostin back in a heartbeat. 💓
Why do you think the Oilers and Canucks dumped him?
Thanks for the tip. I genuinely think he will do good things for us.
@@AJ-ox6yi Canuck fan here, we did not like the way he coughs up the puck to a good forechecker and his outlet passes are often to the wrong team... Big, yes, but too costly by his errors.
Dubas will try to flip vinnie or heinen next year
I think that Heinen has to be flipped because he makes little to no sense on the current roster if we are truly going to rebuild.
If canucks cannot resign Marcus P then terrible trade for them.
You really think Allvin didn't already have a deal in place to sign him?
@@AJ-ox6yi Marcus likes the Swedish connection on the Canucks and will be happy to sign long term.
Pens collecting trash players for Sid.
I honestly like this trade. DOC has been having a rough year and Heinen can be a leader. Desharnais is a class defender and still has room to grow. I 100% believe we won this trade.
It's hard to say this early but I do believe the trade looks promising considering how much people wanted to devalue Marcus Pettersson for the last few weeks.
Great trade for the pens..
Yes indeed.
O'Connor can do everything but score goals.. A player like him is a dime a dozen. I like the trade, a 1st is a nice score for UFA's
100%
Nucks fan. Honestly the 1st rounder is all you got. Vinny is a detriment to the point he had to be scratched all the time. Heinen, is, a guy.
we win the trade on the first round pick alone
Desharnais is trash.... Doesn't hit that much, makes mistakes every game, and doesn't dominate physically....not really a fighter considering his colossal girth.
that's dubas's kind of guy.
Ya, I was a bit astounded when he was saying Desharnais is exactly what the Penguins need! Canucks are short at D and Desharnais is a healthy scratch more often than not. What does that tell you....
Great trade. Any believe Pens got a first. Love Petterson and DOC but you can’t get something for nothing.
I think so too. Pending free agents.
Danton Heinen? Is that to make the $ work? 29 years old and signed thru next year. Boo! I would rather have Ponomarev or Koivunen play with the big team and not Heinen blocking someone's path. Desharnais at 6'7", 227LB. I am not mad at that. That 1st round pick is conditional if its higher than 13th, right? I am surprised about Oconnor though. I thought that the staff really liked him. But the pens getting a 1st round pick for a UFA they were not going to resign is a win.
That was my initial reaction to Heinen being included because I wanted to see the younger guys get that playing time. I honestly think Dubas might just flip him because it appears from the outside looking in that he was only included as a throw-in.
Heinen? REALLY??? I don't dislike him, but....bottom line guy... how is that gonna help?
@ I feel like Heinen is just blocking the path of one of the kids
@ I would love for him to flip Heinen for sure
O Connor was absolutely terrible. Glad he is gone.
He’s one of the best for forecheckers in the national hockey league
@NobuhikuObayashi haha says who? He is far from that. I can think of at least 20 other players who forecheck better. They hyped him up to much and never did much.
@@NobuhikuObayashi Asinine lol
That 1st rounder from NYR is top-13 protected, so let's root for NYR to finish 14th.
I'd rather get the unprotected first next year.
It's a weak 2025 draft year, you'd want the unrestricted 2026
Either way, it'll be an opportunity to draft a first-round talent, something the pens never get the chance to do.
Soo much for being in on Hoglander.
I wanted Hoglander, disappointed he wasn't included.
I love Heinen he’s only 29 he’ll be great. You don’t remember when zucker went out and Heinen played great on the 2nd line? Crazy he’s more productive than DOC. Even tho I would’ve rather kept DOC that 1st round pick is what this whole deal is about POJ will play in Pettersons spot and who know what this new defenseman will do for us Vinny D
It's not that I don't like Heinen, I love Heinen. It's just his spot in the lineup is a spot that could have been used on calling up a young guy from Wilkes Barre instead.
@ I mean we had no talent in Wilkes Barre besides the guys we got in the Guentzel deal and who Dubas just acquired. Still a pretty empty farm system. But I get what you’re saying. Was going to get a 1st for Petterson and DOC who are on expiring deals for nothing. We had to take players with bad contracts back. Heinen was with us for 1mil per season when he was with us before.
Sloppiness for the pens!
Dubas is gonna destroy this team.
Pettersson to Vancouver I can live with that. But I would Prefer J.T. Miller or Höglander became a Penguin. Let's see what they achieve 😊
I think Dubas might see Hoglander as too high risk
I don't think Sully wanted Hoglander because I heard that he and Tocchet had been talking about his attitude and he could be more of a risk than a reward.
i loved DOC too. guy puts in a shift.
One of the hardest workers on the ice at all times certainly.
@@PenguinsDigest Remember Joe Vitale? He also did hard work, but could not score or assist. We need to say goodbye to people like this
Knew you'd be on top of this one!!! Lol
You know it! As soon as I saw it I jumped.
MALKIN AND MOST OVERRATED D IN LEAGUE...LETANG..NEXT
Letang has NTC, not moving
@@sukhjitsingh8269 JT Miller had NTC with Canucks. When management talks to a NTC, they only have to say: you want to spend the rest of your pro career in the minors? Or in the press box?
Drew O'Connor is not a good player. He had 1 good season. He plays a soft game for his size. Doesn't have hands and doesn't score much at all. He does hustle that's about it.
And that season he played about 25-30 games with Sidney Crosby
@ourlittleadventures519 Yes. And as we all know whoever plays on sids line is one happy player.
Pens r going to suck even worse now. 😅
Yep. Sid has 2 more seasons of mediocrity after they miss the playoffs again for a third season this year.
Wont happen he likes O'Connor lol
The trade already happened...
@PenguinsDigest my bad i didn't know I apologize
You're fine. That's why I said breaking news because it did just happen.
Just look at the amount of picks including 1st round picks in the next 3 years. Outstanding.
No one should care about throw in returns.Just the picks. Reminds me of the generation X days in the very early 2000s. Painful but then drafted Fleury, Malkin, Crosby, Staal, etc.
You're right. At first, I was complaining about the throw-ins but then by 4-5 minutes into the video I was just setting my sights on the first-round pick. Considering a first rounder was not guaranteed when Dubas initially decided we needed to move Pettersson.
