      Hey Tom, from what I heard and personal experience, the updated machine with the silver sides (ec9155m) fixed all the problems. I warrantied my machine that you have in the vid and receives the newer model for free

      I bought this machine for your Videos. but, at 4 months the coffee selector failed. money back (lucky) now I don't know which one to buy.

      about a year into the the machine and the manometer stops working. Try running it without coffee and wipe it the "presser" (not sure what the term is), thinking maybe the coffee stuck and block the sensor or something. It works. Then a year later it stops working again. Not only that, now the water started to leak on the bottom when I'm making an espresso. Bad experience. Would not buy from DeLonghi again.

    I just discovered this channel a few weeks ago. It inspired me to pull out my Dedica from the cupboard where it had been sitting unused for a few years. Invested in the Dose Control Pro, bottomless filter and got some decent results.
    After that I followed Tom’s recommendation of using freshly roasted coffee from my local roastery, not really expecting that big of a difference honestly, but WOW! That was a game changer! These beans are something else! They clearly have a much higher content of oils. They almost feel a bit greasy, and it’s just crema from start to finish! I appreciate the channel opening my eyes to this! Such a joy.

    I'm extremely happy with my La Specialista Arte so far :) 6 months and 5-10 shots of espresso daily without any issues. Huge thanks Tom for your nice reviews, I was so prepared when I set the machine for the first time -- got a perfect shot right after just 2 grind setting changes. Awesome results with fresh Vergnano Settecento and Novecento blends!

    Got mine around March this year, more than happy with it, no issue so far. (I'm in Thailand)
    FYI, I was undecided between Delonghi and Breville but went with Delonghi because of your fantastic VDOs, especially the descale tutorial.

      really a descale video was the decision? lol what about all the accessories you can get for sage more than the de longhi. thousands more accessories available for 34mm baskets, but the water level on this machine is nice, Both are good not hating Enjoy

    I had my La Specialista EC9155M for one year and loved it until it started leaking water from the bottom. Good thing there is a 2 year warranty. They won’t swap it, they will repair it. It’ll take 2 months so I just shipped it, and in the meantime bought a Breville Touch Impress. Hope it works well. From all the reviews, Breville is better build quality.

    Hey Tom - thanks for this. Actually I had one of those issues after 6 months of utilization. It was the first issue you mentioned: the selector switch. It was just stuck on Americano, and would not go to espresso or anything else.
    I am from Switzerland, so thankfully Galaxus took it back as it was still under guarantee, and sent me a new one. It's a pity, because the coffee is quite good with the right settings.

      Same here with the switch. It's a common issue if you search for it. Mine broke twice and went back to Delonghi each time for 6 weeks waiting till it was fixed. It's annoying.
      No more Delonghi for me. Eventhough i enjoy my coffee for the price of this maschine. I hope they fixed the selector wheel switch issue

    I think this style of machine with home baristas in mind are very good at getting people interested in espresso. However, the problems are caused by over complicating the machine. When there are problems it is impossible to get into the machine or replace parts.
    Out of warranty the repair costs out way the value of the machine.
    I have just junked a sage Oracle after 5 years, several trips to the repair shop at £200 a go meant it had come to the end of its working life.
    My first machine was a Gaggia classic and taught me how to look after them. Many modifications later I purchased a more ‘pro’ machine made in Germany. Less bells and whistles but solid as a rock. Should out last me!
    There is a lot to be said for “ Less is More”
    An expensive machine is one you do not get value out of. IMHO

    Thanks for your effort! The video was very informative!
    I have seen reviews saying that the grinder does not grind fine enough, and 8 settings are too few to get a good espresso. I'm not too picky though. Will it affect the taste too much?
    Also, after more than a year, does your Specialista Arte still work properly? A lot of reviews I've seen online say that the Specialista series (Arte, Prestigio and Maestro) often break down after a year or two. Issues with steam and leak are most prevalent.
    I'm looking to buy a Maestro since I fell in love with how it looks, but your videos about the Breville Express Impress really make me reconsider. The Maestro is basically the Arte with auto tamping and auto froth.
    The automatic LatteCrema does give the machine the ability to make milk coffee, which my parents really like because they don't know how to froth milk manually. But is this tradeoff worth it?

    This is why I prefer machines without a grinder built in. Dedica Arte or Breville Bambino is enough for home use with an external grinder

    My manometer stopped working and I descaled the machine and the manometer worked fine after that. Hope this helps anyone with this similar issue.

      People forget to maintain properly.. and then come problems...if you have more limescale in your water , more frequently you need to clean the machine.

    Hey Tom, I’m planning on upgrading my current coffee machine. I like making lattes and espresso and noticed that my old coffee machine really doesn’t preform really well. I’ve watched a lot of your reviews but I’m stuck on choosing one. I want to spend around 5000nok ( around 450 usd). What would you recommend? I would like to have a built in grinder too.       Hi there! Well, I don't know the market in Norway, but I'd maybe wait for the Ninja Luxe Cafe to get to Europe. It's my current favorite all in one machine. Otherwise, maybe wait for a Sage Barista model to go on sale.

    I had the selector switch problem and returned it on warranty. A couple of months later, the switch knob broke but I was able to repair it with hot glue.
    The pressure meter has been partially working for a couple of months. Sometimes it moves, sometimes not, sometimes it moves a little. It's out of warranty.
    The grinder adjustment doesn't change much. I have it at the 7 setting and it's barely coarse enough.
    It does make great coffee but I wouldn't buy this again.
    On the other hand, about 15 years ago, I had a Breville drip coffee maker maker that died soon after its warranty expired.

      I disable the pause, since the pre-infusion itself is soooo long. And it sounds like a choo choo train.

    I'm on my second Sage BBE. First replaced under warranty. The second one got same failure this time I had to return and get repaired.
    A common fault is that the showerhead becomes loose. There are 4 screws within the unit that can become loose. This time they fixed the screws in with loctite glue to hold them in place. Apart from that it's a good machine.

      @@rustybucket5465 yeah… these 3 defects are pretty serious in my opinion… and hearing that many poeple are having the same issues… well, there are machines with thousands of rave reviews… I personally would rather spend my money on something with great reviews than something that has common, rather serious defects. I went with a different machine and have been using it for just under a year without a single issue to date… The grinder works perfectly, I am able to reliably switch between modes and can accurately tell what pressure level it’s operating under… I mean, isn’t this the entire reason poeple watch a dozen review videos on products before spending money on potentially sub par products? It’s also a great way for manufacturers to know what to work on.

    hope my machine will last - Tom - one question, how do you get the long water stream when you do your espressos (ok to start and ok to end). I can only do the sigle or double shot and was wondering how to do more :)

    Good video Tom! I could have guessed you were an engineering type (Like me)! I loved your reviews on the cheaper De ‘Longhi machines, and have an interim one of those on my counter right now. My new Gaggia Classic Evo Pro is currently torn apart and being thoroughly modded LOL! (BTW, I would never buy any espresso machine with an integrated grinder. Love my Eureka Mignon Zero!)

    I had the problem with the selector switch not working this time last year. It was swapped out under warranty and I took the same machine despite being offered alternatives as I was happy with the machine, and couldn't find other people at the time with the same faults. Mine is used by all my family daily.

    I got one about 3 years ago. It sprang a leak at about 9 months, repaired under warranty.
    I never use the selector switch for anything except starting the descaling. Last week the switch failed and now I can't descale. I guess I'll just use it until it clogs.

    Eight months into ownership, the selector knob stopped working. DeLonghi repaired it without too much fuss. I've had it back for several months and it's working fine, making delicious coffee.

    The more gadgets on any machine the more chances that one part becomes faulty or does not come up to expectations hence people scrap the whole machine, simplicity is the key to satisfaction.

    Thanks Tom for this vid! I am still looking for a successor for my Delonghi Magnifica S (been to cup machine) and due to the fact I am very happy with that machine, I almost bought the La Specialista Arte, but the few grinder settings and the fact that you cannot clean the grinder properly did hold me back. Maybe go the Dedica + loose grinder path instead?

      Oh, I am sure the Maestro will have nylon lines for the high pressure lines. If you want no plastic, consider a manual lever like the Flair or Cafelat Robot.

    Hey Tom, You should try "La Specialista Prestigio EC9335M" ($899.95) instead of "La Specialista Arte EC9155MB" ($699.95). I use an older one "Prestigio EC9335.BK", this mashine has two heating systems, that means you can make expresso and steam the milk at the same time.

    Got my Arte almoust one year now, use it at least 5 times a day, every day, and got ZERO problems, is a fantastic machine and i love it..

    I'm a rookie, just bought this machine on sale on Amazon. I've watched a bunch of videos on how to do a shot and so far nothing but trouble. The pressure gauge goes into the danger zone and I have to run the same shot multiple times because only tiny drips coming out, and not getting good espresso at all. I'm using between 14-18 grams of beans for the double shot. tried many different settings on the grinder and am tamping it properly. Started to hard but then just one tamp at around 30lbs pressure. If its this complicated why do I have a machine, probably returning it.

      Well, you have to grind coarser if the machine is getting choked. Try that.

    Definitely my next coffee machine in future is barista express. Delonghi just seems to not keep up very well with expresso machines till this range.✌🏻

    We have had two of these we have had to return. We are I. South Africa. It was a pity because we loved the coffee! Both machines were funny to turn on, I had to unplug both of them from the wall every night. Just pressing the button to turn on did not work. Then both failed with the 3 flashing lights for temperature flashing which means call for delonghi service. They will not make coffee when the service lights are blinking :) anyway the first machine lasted two weeks and the second lasted 30 days. We are returning the second one and getting a Breville Barista Express Impress. We are very sad though because we loved the delonghi coffee.

    Sometimes coffee grind sticks to the sealing ring, causing pressure loss. Not easy to get by for cleaning.

    It took me a year for the manomater to work. I was having the wrong heat and grind and I found it's also the quality of bean that plays a role too

    Espresso knob is broken just like you said. This will be my third time retuning my machine for repairs. It will cost me 295.00 to send it to them to have a knob fixed. 😕

    Nice video. I just had this machine and the coffee grounds in the filter holder, after the extraction, are always superwet, mix of water and coffee. I'm using level 2 of grain and pressure about 9bar. I can't have the compact dry block that you show in the video. Any suggestions on why this happens? Thanks

      Well, it depends on the dose amount and a bit on the beans and grind. But it's not really a big deal either way. Dry pucks are nicer to bang out, but they're not indicative of a better shot. Cheers!

    I have switched from the DeLonghi LaSpecialista to a Flair with a Niche grinder and I could not be happier. With the DeLonghi I found dialing in a grind size to be difficult, hitting the good zone with the manometer to not be easy and barely fine enough (too high a flow rate). The preinfusion was by time, which is far from optimal. Also a wet puck after, and messy grounds on the machine, varying by coffee type.

      I think the ergonomics on this machine are very good, but yes the pre-infusion is too intense, shortening the possible shot time. Which Flair did you get?

      @@TomsCoffeeCorner I really like the way you cover these machines and I have a hard time understanding the justification for paying the money for many of the E61 machines. I have the Flair 58 with heater. I am also currently making one coffee/day with a Niche Zero and 1 coffee/day with a Niche Duo. Interesting differences between the two. As for pre-infusion times, I find this to be the most variable parameter from shot to shot with everything else unchanged, and consequently think it is best controlled manually on every shot using a bottomless portafilter, not a pre-set time.

    Great vid as usual. Yes i bought a brand new Delonghi La Specialista. And guess what. The preasuregage didnt work. Got up to 2bar and nothing more. No matter what i did. So broken as a default. To bad DeLonghi cant make a better quality. Ended up bying a Sage Barrista Pro at another store. I have now zero problem.

    I haven't experienced any of the three issues mentioned up front in this video. Just lucky i guess 😜 but i like the machine. Only minor disappointment was the non removable hopper.

      I mean, I think by now they must have those issues cleared up. They don't want to deal with reclamations all the time. But, I'd go for the Breville Barista Express honestly.

    Question regarding the specialista model. My machine recently started an issue. Once I grin, fill and tamper (this has a tamper), I move my carousel to the brew location and I attempt to the brew location, however it does not twist on. It is almost like it is in the locked position? Any advice?

    Awesome video! I am getting an espresso machine this week. I can get Delonghi Stilosa, Dedica or Magnifica for the same price.
    I've seen your video about Dedica, do you think that as a manual machine is that better than Magnifica that justifies doing the whole process manually?
    Those are expensive machines in Argentina and I'm scared that the Magnifica makes ugly espresso in sake of being fully automatic (which sound nice to me since I don't have scales, and even a botomless tool is hard to find here)

      Well, the Magnifica will not make an espresso. Those fully automatic machines only extract around 2-3 bar. So if you want espresso, you will need an espresso machine. What about an ECP 3420? Which marketplace do you use in Argentina?

    Zero issues after almost a year of daily coffee consumption. But must say, I don't use in-built grinder. My only problem is shot consistency.

      Hi there! I wouldn’t worry about it. My unit has been fine for over a year, too. I think for most people, if it’s going to break, it’ll happen sooner than later. If yours is operating fine, don’t sweat it.

    My portafilter does not lock straight on this model is that a problem?
    I probably turn it about a quarter before it cant turn anymore, using the original handle.

      Do you mean you can't get it all the way in? Or does it go too far? Eventually, the group head gaskets need replacing, as thez wear thin. But that takes a while.

      @@TomsCoffeeCorner when i put the thing into the group head it turns and locks however it only turns a quarter and it is not straight when locked in. So it doesn't reach the "lock" mark

      My bottomless portafilter doesn't have this problem however it draws coffee too fast and when i change the grind the pressure goes too high. Shame this grinder doesn't have a finer adjustment.

    I had the switch issue as well as the descale was stuck in a loop. I ended up buying a Dinamica Plus. Wasn't chancing another one.

    I have a prestigio one and it work great every morning and simple to use. Just I found that I need some practice for the 3 holes steam wand😢is there a tip?

      I have yet to try the Oracle, but my guess is that the Oracle is much better. Breville is the king of the all in ones, in my opinion.

    I've bought the La Specialista after seeing your videos and because of PAF being high for this model :D .. we only do espresso so the switch is not an issue, the manometer works (although it has no values on it we try to get it in the top middle) and the grinder was not stuck (yet). Even if it will be, I will go back to your excellent video about taking it apart and cleaning it. Thank you, Tom!

      Hi Tom I have had lots of issues with the La Specialista the latest is the steam wand won’t work and the steam leaks into the bottom tray I am over it sent it back three times already they sent me a new one and still having issue

    Just ordered one without further researching it up. It was more of an impulsive buy without much thought. Now I'm quite scared. To be fair it was on sale for nearly 50% and I watched a bit of videos and said "oh why not." I wanted a Breville but on Wayfair it was sold out. Too late to turn back now it's arriving in 2 days.

    I’ve been using this machine for a year and a week ago steam wand stopped working and water escaped the water tank every time I made coffee. I’m really upset about, it was just a year!

    I was watch your video"How to clean your grinder" when I bought 9155, And it worked last week, Cause I put thick coffee powder to the grinder and try grind it more finer, But the grinder blocking on the aperture, Then I feel its suck that this machine cant clean grinder easy, It shouldn't happen in a major coffee machine. But thanks your video I buy blossom screwdriver and success dismantle the machine and cleaned the grinder. It's ironically If I want clean grinder I must dismantle the whole machine.

    Not happy with my Arte. It is leaking water from the back when in use and also a small rock (that was in the beans) jammed the grinder which is a nuisance to pull apart. Taking it in for fixing tomorrow as it's still under warranty but no doubt I'll have to pay for the grinder as I think the motor has burnt out. Wish I had stayed with Breville.

      Well, I am guessing a rock will kill most grinders, but yes it sucks that it's so hard to get to the grinder.

    Damn!! I just got this one using my flyer points, but I was tossing up between this and the breville, I’ve only had 5 coffees and it’s already not going well. I didn’t see this video till now, I had only seen the first review.. does anyone know who I’d contact - would it be delonghi or the points company (Qantas frequent flyer/marketplace)??

      It's not all machines that have the manometer or selector switch issue, but rather just a small percentage. If your machine is working properly, there's no need to return it.

      just play with the grind and dose settings and most importantly use the roast chart in your manual that helped me, I have the same machine no issues, coffee tastes great hot or iced and it's consistent!😊

      Well, the pro steams a lot faster and better imho, but also costs more. But I'd probably lean towards the Pro, since I make a lot of milk drinks.

    I don't agree with the conclusion of leaving the videos up. I am thinking to buy this machine and I would like to know how often these things happen, if i'd watch just the original review I wouldnt know it can be problematic...

    I have the la especialistas prestigio. My machine stops the same pressure. right below the optimal zone. No matter what I do it wont go any higher. Seems like it struggles to go higher. Anybody have an Idea of what I need to replace bc it’s out of the warranty.

      Mine was 1.5 years old, then I sold it. It worked perfect the whole time. I think there are just some machines floating around out there, which had faulty gauges installed. So, if your machine is working now, I'd expect it to last some time.

    My machine started amazing, but very fast no crema. The coffee is always too watery. I tried all the settings played with different coffee. Still problems. It will be almost a year. Do you think they will replace it? Does anybody experience the same?

    First machine had steam wander issue, keep stopping around 10 seconds; TSC exchange for me, the new onw seems fine so far ( one month new) finger crossed.

    i have a presitigio specialista and I'll never buy another delonghi product. Make great coffee, but has had a lot of issues and customer support is absolutely terrible

      @@TomsCoffeeCorner The grinder stopped working multiple times despite being cleaned and reattached correctly. I ultimately had to open up the top and readjust the grinder using a youtube video that addressed the issue (not delonghi's account). While the fix was relatively simple, it was inconvenient, annoying that the company wasn't able to provide any appropriate troubleshooting (just a $250+ repair charge), and wasted far too many coffee beans.

    I can't get mine off descale. I have cleaned it over 10 times over 4 months and Delonghi will not do anything, except tell me do it again. I had it a year when it happend.

    The unfortunate truth about these beer-budget machines is:
    A: You have to spend at least $500 on a grinder before you get any consistency or quality.
    B: You’ll spend a (minimum) of $1,500 on your espresso machine to get even near shop-quality drinks at home.
    C: You’ll want to budget another $150 - $200 on accessories required to bring it all together.
    On top of that, you’ll need about 4-6 sq ft of counter space with at least 30” of vertical clearance, preferably near a sink, to accommodate your little espresso shop.
    Fortunately for the cash-strapped, marketers like Seattle Coffee Gear, 1st Line Equipment, and Whole Latte Love and others now offer complete packages from about $2,200 and up, with attractive finance options such as Affirm, with payments as low as $35/ mo.

      I honestly don't think you have to spend that much. Get a Eureka Cronos/Manuale for $300. A MiiCoffee Apex or Turin Legato for $500. Some accessories. Or consider the BDB as a very nice option as well.

    Mine started leaking water, we have it only 2 months. Now there is a water leaking from the bottom of the machine. Need to return… quite dissapointed.

    Do not purchase their products at all, My Specialista Expresso machine developed 2 problems in 4 months: The on and off switch would not turn on, it needed numerous times to switch it to activate, the second is a water leak when the expresso was brewing, No support for a month from DeLonghi. Their customer service plays a game with a customer instead of solving a problem. Stay away from their products

    I have la Specialista prestigio, and in general I don’t have any issue, very good machine, very good coffee!… however, I did not long time ago a master class of latte art and for the first time I had the opportunity to use a professional Italian coffee machine, and I notice that the pressure in the steam wound is considerable higher so was “easier” to make the milk, the problem is that now I can’t reproduce the same effect with my machine! I can’t go even close to have similar milk effect! I even start to think that maybe my machine doesn’t give enough pressure in the steam wound…

      It's true that a big fancy machine will have great steam power, making it easier to incorporate air into the milk. But it's possible with this one too - just takes longer...

    This type of delonghi machine is not . If the grinder is not working you need to disaasemble everything to resolve the grinding issue

    This machine is really bad. Mine leaks from the bottom only after a few months and it’s not pouring proper espresso anymore. No cream and it’s only pouring a 3rd of what it used to. I’ve descaled and it used to work good so it’s not an operator error. The quality of this is subpar for the price

    Hi Tom, I have a problem
    with Specialista. It stopped working but the teacup light is on only. Nothing else works. Pushing the tea button, the water comes cold. I found that people with same problem run the tea process few times and the machine reset itself. Someone had to do it 12 times. It does not work for me. I did it over 20 30 times. I have checked the boilers fuses, the valves the pipes but nothing. Would you suggest something? I have a link here that shows what is happening. Bless you

      Hi Eugene, if you look at 0:04, the red symbol above the "Americano" being lit up, looks like the descaling symbol. Could it be that you are still stuck in descaling mode? Can you let it finish descaling, or re-initiate the descaling process and see if running through that solves your issue?

      No. There is nothing else that works apart fron on/off and tea water. The descale is on as it needs to be done but it won’t do it. What happened previously, the grinder cease to work than it was used without the grinder. Than nothing. It may be that the cause?

      @@eugenuku I am pretty sure the grinder works independently of the water circuit. I think you need to get it through the descaling cycle. Is it still under warranty?

      I’ve had my machine for 14 months, and it has been sent back to De’Longhi three times during that period-twice for hose issues and once for a problem with the heating block. De’Longhi attempted to blame maintenance, but I only use their descaler and descale it whenever required.
      It’s a great machine when it works, but I don’t believe it’s worth the long-term investment. I’ve ordered a standalone grinder, as the built-in one isn’t grinding as well as it once did. Now, I’m just waiting for it to fail again so I can order a proper machine from Lelit or Profitec (still undecided).

    DONT BUY THIS MACHINE. I had knob issue and cant descale. Luckily within warrenty period but new from box used only for 3 weeks. Was delonhi fan but yes they dropped the ball on this machine.

    Worst machine I've ever used. On my third replacement now . First one the guage didnt work, second one made loud squeaking noises.
    Just buy any other product
