The UFC Is So Bad Right Now (Rant)

- Опубліковано 16 чер 2024
- Ayy man listen.. today I give my honest opinions and rant about the current state of the UFC and especially about the matchmaking, promotion and cancellations for UFC 303 McGregor vs Chandler and Whittaker vs Khamzat Chimaev/Saudi card. I talk about how terrible UFC Fight Night Perez vs Taira was, the new gloves are terrible and how UFC's short notice ability to make great fights like Alex Pereira vs Jiri Prochazka proves they could be doing so much better with their cards/matchmaking than they're doing currently. I also give praise to the upcoming ppv UFC 304 Leon Edwards vs Belal Muhmmad. Let me know YOUR thoughts on the current state of the UFC down below and make sure to drop a like, subscribe and follow me on ig/twitter @bedtimemma and thank you guys for 35k subscribers!

UFC has been garbage recently, it's because there's no love for the sport all Dana cares about is making himself even richer.
Like buying power slap and saying it has more viewers than any other sport instead of maybe starting a kickboxing/Muay Thai or grappling competition like onefc has or something that actually promotes combat sports

@@ChiefTJBallout it’s the UFC needing to make a fight night every week look at the one we just had and the Saudi Arabia one they’re night and day one is terrible and one is good like the next two weeks is going to feel good and then we go to the card that’s not good and it ruins the momentum and it makes the ufc feel dead that week
Its because they have to many fighters on the rooster. Less fighters in ufc more quality cards. There just isn’t 300 elite mma fighters in the world.
@@nasirjones580they are jus wasting potential matchup like the wasted colbyvs garry. Ufc don't have have to make fights of stars but make fights that make sense. Why are they putting cory vs umar when it could ve been cory vs sean for the bw title.

I think the biggest problem tbh is inactivity of champions and top contenders. It stalls divisions and means less exciting matchups

Yup
It was better when they had one card a month. It was something to look forward to. Now they have too many weight classes and too many fighters on the roster.
one fc clears ufc in my opinion. their rule set and variety is so much better. they just need better personalities on their mics instead of the cookie cutter corporate personalities they have currently
Yeah when I watch One and see these children of Thai rice farmers from Isaan who've been fighting since the age of six, I definitely can't get past how they are all corporate shills. And no mic skills at all, I mean what language are they even speaking 💀
They need to focus on spreading the marketing in Asia that's the main audience for them. Get so rooted in Asia that Asia doesn't wanna send fighters to ufc, Asian have cultural pride so they likely would turn down money for loyalty. One fc needs too keep doing what it's doing. It's the only organization that has the ability too challenge the ufc in time. The rule sets better, the fights are more exciting they just need to build a solid foundation and then start acquiring talent. They should buy out PFL in serval years, they are making home run moves that I don't think are gonna work out and end up costing them in the back end.
Remember UFC started out mediocre then bought out WEC, pride and strike force. Then they had a bunch of talent on the roster. Don't buy into "ufc is the only promotion on the planet that can host these fighters". It just had a massive head start but they are blowing it with shitry business decisions.
Best thing for both promotions is for them too be actual completion for each other
Taira gets outstruck and then wins by injury. Bisping: "Thats one of the most impressive performances I've ever seen"
Dude I thought I was insane for thinking this. They're so disingenuously pushing rising stars purely for $$$$ instead of actually honestly promoting/commentating/matchmaking. Dana "Holy Shit Moments" White has totally poisoned the UFC with this pursuit for more market share instead of actually doing what made UFC beloved in the first place, shame.

Why diaz and tony arent fighting eachother is beyond. Absolutely ridiculous matchmaking
The ufc is doomed unless we give Colby the ww goat the winner of Belal vs Leon
They just need to end apex cards, no crowd, no excitement and dogshit fights and they someone keep getting worse cards every time they go back there
It still boggles my mind why they still do Apex stuff and don’t just hold these lower fight cards in smaller markets.
As it turns out, UFC fights with virtual nobodies in empty warehouses isn’t actually that enjoyable, whereas a full crowd even for a mediocre card can still be fun.

The main reasons card seem trash is:
-stars aren't as active
-they try to stack some cards so much that they leave nothing to the average fight night
-they can schedule 25 Apex cards a year so they can simply put on cards that wouldn't sell because they lose no money with promotiong and organisation
-they pick and choose which cards will have stars/borderline fan favourites based on who pays the most (look at Saudi, Abu Dhabi, Perth and Singapore cards compared to your average fight night or even less stacked ppv)
this is like the 3rd or 4th consecutive video posted around my lunch break bedtime got me
On top of all your valid statements. What is driving me NUTS is how Slow & far apart the UFC is. There's Zero Momentum! It's all cause they only have a handful of dates for "Big event PPVs" Even if they have in shape, motivated athletes who want to be active, they aren't utilizing the potential that is right in front of them.
We're at the part where the ufc is breaking its own beak right now. By the time 304 comes around, it will be reborn

Ive been getting super lucky recently ive only been watching every other ufc event for the past month or two and i seem to always watch the good ones and miss the bad ones
We need tournaments for unranked fighters... We need a point system! We need to know what we're watching.
Face off interviews would be fire
I honestly like the weekly events even though they're not good
I've been feeling the same thing these past couple of months. I ended up either going to bed part way through or just skipping out on the past three events entirely. There was another one earlier on in 2024 that I just dipped on too cus it was so boring but can't remember which one. The point is, I haven't missed an event in years. I always watch the cards front to back. But there have just been so many terrible cards this year filled with WMMA and contender series tier main cards that it just doesn't feel like I'm missing anything when I get bored and just tune out now. I think something has happened with the matchmakers. Maybe that random guy they hired has been given way too much free reign but idk something has changed.

It’s because Endeavor is a publicly owned company, so they’re legally obligated to earn shareholders while spending as little as possible for higher margins. It’s no longer Dana’s baby. That’s why PowerSlap and DWCS are when he’s most passionate.
always sucks when the card is a bit mid and you sit there like : \ afterwards, but mad agree that they can be so shit sometimes but crazy good at times too
I usually make it through bad cards but this past weekend I was like dozing off hard during John’s Andrade fight
But also the drop outs have been insane lately like everyone is dropping out of their fights it feels like
Me and my buddies went to a local bar after the main card started. Shit was too ass had to drink the pain away
UFC rn is just like WWE in 2015. We were seeing highest of highs and lowest of lows in a single pay per view. And WWE is on it peak rn.
Honestly most ufc lately has been so hard to watch. I fall asleep or just get tired of decisions for every fight. You’re right you get a good one spread out in between so many boring fights. Alex stepping in for Connor idk how I feel about it. Like we just saw him twice in the last few months it seems. Maybe better gloves and something to fix the grappling that goes nowhere for 5 minutes. If there is a way to fix those and also make better matching it would be great to watch. 😢
I had stopped following the UFC somewhere in 2021. Prior to that I was watching every fight night, every ppv, was following media interviews, etc. I started following it again 2-3 months ago. Inbetween I would look at the results here and there, I'd look if there had been any interesting KOs and similar stuff but I didn't watch the events. And I just feel like it was better before. Idk why, it just feels like that. There are some fighters rn that seem to be borderline carrying the organization for example Alex Pereira. But the biggest difference is the lack of title defenses and the amount of lowkey bad cards that I've been seeing. This one for example, UFC 302 was terrible other than the main event pretty much, UFC 301 was bad, etc. And for the champions, I don't understand why everyone just wants to fight for the second belt. What happened to title defending or becoming the best in your division? Why do fighters think that winning one more fight at a higher division no matter who your opponent is means that you're suddenly the best fighter ever? I miss the time when champions showed their dominance through defending their belt by beating top contenders and proving that their champion status isn't a fluke.
I’m sure you’re aware but regarding the no-name signings and lackluster cards, the UFC is under contract with ESPN to put on 40+ card/year. That deal doesn’t specify the caliber of the cards. So I’m guessing they put all the nonsense on the fight nights to meet the quota and save ranked names for the PPV to make extra bucks on name recognition there. There’s more I could go into but I won’t.
Not saying that the matchmaking couldn’t be improved, though.
as a combat sports fan
Boxing is so clear of MMa recently lol, usually i prefer UFC, but this year boxing been better
It's just unfortunate only like 5 boxing events per year are acctually good, and even then you're only there for the main event and maybe a co main here n there. But yeah I'll give it you boxing has been good this year not sure if it clears UFC though.
More than 5 this year lol, the main events from boxing overall clear mma's this year@@EliteMMAv2
@@ahwmahwm5533boxing has been in Fire since 2022 but mma fans don't want to admit it
They've got an ESPN quota to meet so you're going to get shit matchmaking like this
I almost never sit down and watch fight nights outside of the numbered events. I play them on my phone in the background the next day and maybe pay attention to the odd fight where I actually recognise the fighters. I literally don't have the time to follow 500+ individual fighters so it's hard to get invested in any of these shitty watered down Apex Centre events where I see the card and don't even recognise most if the names on it.
It’s because we need Flukas glazy vs bedtime
Flukas Glazy vs Bedtime to save the sport🔥 DO IT DANA
It’s funny because bueno Silva vs Chiasson from ufc 303 was actually an exciting fight that ended with the TKO from an elbow. I think it’s the nature of this sport and it’s unpredictable nature that makes exciting but also disappointing at times.
The main issue is the amount of cards they have plus how little their ranked fighters actually fight. Also the apex is fucked.
Ayye man....listen
boxing is speaking to me like that ryan gosling "you look lonely"blade runner meme
