Good God, that animation of the bleeding is just insane. It's scary, I had no idea a gunshot wound can cause that kind of bleeding. Movies create such huge misconceptions.
It really depends on alot of factors. Namely what caliber shoots you. There are many times where cops who have shot people noted that it does not appear very bloody at the time.
I was shot 3x going on 6yrs ago, with a Tech9, the bullets were 9mm hollow points. I was shot in my right thigh, that went in and out. I was shot in the left side of my hip, that bullet broke my hip, hit my spine leaving half a bullet + fragments in me, and I was shot in the left side of my stomach, which resulted in me loosing a LOT of my organs. Just thought I'd share.
What was your basic procedure like for a wound like that in the video? Side note, I noticed the leg bled more when laying down, as opposed to standing up. I figured you’d bleed less laying down…
Besides the strange comments on this video, I find the simulation very nice. Considering I've never been able to see an actual GSW, this definitely gave me an idea of what can occur. Thank you!
There's many different parts to a leg. I wonder why people keep asking if you can die from being shot in the leg, like there's not a difference between above or below the knee. If you get shot in the shin, knee or calf, you have a much higher chance of surviving than being shot in the thigh. There's many different parts to the leg.
I knew someone when a serving British soldier who was accidentally shot with a 5.56. He was in the kneeling position. The round went in through the knee, travelled up his right thigh, slammed into his hip and exited out his right shoulder. The scar was fist sized and he was thus maimed... Nice guy
@@Alecxace story seems comparable with stories my Doc would tell us during deployment. The 7.62x39 tends to be a thru and thru, but the 5.56 can travel and end up in weird places.
The model of the "bullet" is larger than any shotgun slug I have ever seen. It is not realistic at all. Also, the model of the blood leaving vessels does not account for a beating heart as the rate of fluid loss does not fluctuate with the beats of the heart increasing pressure. Just goes to show, having a college degree does not automatically mean ANYTHING.
As a soccer player, I’ve hit my shin bone pretty hard and it’s a pain that leaves one rolling around in the ground. Can’t imagine getting shot straight through the shin bone 😬😬
That is one of the most dangerous things, if the bullet hits the bone, it will shatter it and send fragments everywhere, those of which can shred through arteries and blood vessels, causing you to bleed out rapidly
@@nitrous_god It also depends on bullet caliber though, if you are shot with round made to penetrate target then bullet will leave the leg from the other side and make a literal hole in bone with possible fractures around but if it's a hollow point round your leg bone would turn into ashes and you would probably bleed out.
Scare tactic for people who don't know anything about gun shots I'd imagine was the purpose of this video. Definitely wasn't an accurate representation of a bullet wound to the leg.
Takes around 7 to 10 minutes to bleed out. If you’re smart you’ve got a belt or something that can stop the bleeding. You might have to sacrifice your leg to save your life. I always have a tourniquet on me and in that situation I would do whatever I had to do to save my life.
Teachers and friend use to think I was psycho keeping a bag of supply's and bandages wraps for mouths before until it came in handy nobody was there to help but myself I would of been dead at 15
A man was once injured badly by a super speed rock that slipped and flew from under a craine entering his leg he had this exact situation which me and mother saw from the balcony he was lucky that it was night time and the medicine shops were open and not too far away people around him took him there and got him bandaged then they went to the hospital. Don't know what happend to him after
Lay down if you're in a safe place to do so, or get to a safe area first if possible. lay down, (elevate your legs if someone else can apply pressure and lay back), apply pressure immediately either way with or without help apply constant pressure, most likely won't have a tourniquet but apply if you can't stop the bleeding, 2" above the wound apply it, don't go over a joint so if you need to apply it higher up the limb. Applying a tourniquet DOES NOT mean you will definitely lose that limb, as long as you get medical attention.
I feel like watching this not only was a waste of time, but I feel stupider than before. Look at bullet makes a hole and blood comes out… Amazing discovery.
Why did I search for this video? I'm making a mini series about world war two. And so, people get shot. So I have to know how I could simulate a gun wound as closely as I can

That is a large LARGE AND SUPER LARGE bullet. That ball is like 3 times the size of a 50 cal. And that isn’t a thing. And most gun shot would are from a 9mm. (the most common caliber involved in gun violence).
I accidently stabbd my own hand a few years ago while woodcarving, nicking or slicing off an major blodvessel in my hand. I´m not joking when i say it was like a fountain. It took me half an hour to mop all the blood.
You do have an artery in your hand very easily could have been that. Did it flow with your hearts beat and was it bright red? If yes and yes most likely artery you hit. Pressure can stop the bleeding in an artery, depends how bad the damage to that artery is.
Yeah, one what caliber bullet was that ball supposed to be? Cause that was huge, like 50 cal or bigger huge. Also I don't think medics need the anatomy lesson, maybe a lay person on the street, but I fail to see how this helps medics.
It does actually but at very fast speeds but if you get shot the surrounding area "wobbles" as skin is slightly flexible and the energy is dumped into it.
This is not anywhere the same as being shot sometimes a round passes through that fast the wound channel closes up so fast it explodes back out like dihareerr
you will pass out first, any gun shot is so powerful a lot of pain that you will pass out so if you are lucky, someone will tie the wound waitng on the ambulance. just be careful and avoid getting shot. even after you heal, you gonna spend the rest of your life taking pain medicine, abt 10,000$ a year woth of medication . just stay safe
I know I'm a little late here but you do not always automatically pass out from pain if shot or need to be on pain medication for your entire life. Yes, both of those things are a possibility depending on the severity of the wound but still very far from garenteed. Yes lie down, and tie something around the limb and keep pressure on the wound until help arrives preferably elevating if possible.
Carrying one is way easier! Hand made tourniquets are 20% to 60% effective in the majority of people who don't have knowledge in what they're doing. Also a belt isn't going to make a good tourniquet unlike what you see in the movies.
