Absolutely right my friends. This type of sound quality in tabla is not the style that that we normally hear at concerts today. Its not flashy and gimmicky nor intended to simply impress by playing fast and hard. It is very musical and my opinion gives us a glimpse of how tabla can be taken beyond percussion. Bapuji is extrapolating what he has learned, over a very short period of time, from his guru.

The purpose of my putting up these clips is to help Bapuji carry on his mission of not letting this style of Tabla playing die. Thanks everyone for your comments. Please tell anyone you know would be interested to check these out. I'll be posting more soon

An absolute delight to hear such beautiful balance of dayan and bayan... not to mention the brilliant spontaneous variations Bapu Ji has played, reminiscent of Thirakwa sahib himself! Thanks for posting!!

This style is also intended to maximize the musical qualities (beyond percussion / mathematics) created by the bols. Naturally spoken tabla that leads to naturally played bols, with ease. That style of using natural ease also helps to explain how Bapuji is able to play the way he does at his age and considering that he was never a full time tabla player.

Wonderful setting for tabla connoissuers, not the commercial concert atmosphere. Can anyone tell me if this hand is a fusion of Farrukhabad and Delhi and not Farrukhabad as such, which is natural in Kaida... pure Farrukhabad hand would be demonstrated more in parans? Hope to see more posts

@allfieldsreq The answer is somewhat complex and best if Bapuji explains it. From my understanding it is a way of playing tabla that matches the recitation of the bols in a naturally spoken way. As accents go up and down when we speak or change with speed, so do the tabla bols and therefore their nikaas. This "vani ka tabla" is based on the recitation style used by Ust. Ahmedjaan Thirakwa that creates a unique balance between Dayan and Bayan.
