they were going to do that but then the story writer for subnautica below zero left midway through its development and they had to re write the story which is sad

@@sam-nh7qo totally agree with you...I've noticed game developers start rushing games in the past 10 to years.. its really not for entertainment anymore.. just for monetary gains. Every older game I played had a lot of time, effort and development put into it, and they really cared about how it would impact peoples lives. I feel like a huge part has also that the developers changed mid development and I feel like the bought them out.

The frost dragon would have been the perfect “boss” fight like similar to the ice worms where you are walking in a big open area and all of a sudden the ice floor breaks and you fall into the frost dragons lair with the sharp jagged ice everywhere and you have to use the ice and little caverns to hide from it. Kinda similar to the snake boss fight in Sekiro.

After watching that ending, I do not think Marguerit died. I think she was the one piloting the ship when it flew away.

In the current ending before it was released there actually was a third thing you could do with the precursor arms. There was a bunch of ice on the place where you build the ship which you actually had to destroy. No clue why they removed it, I don't have it on video though (although I could probably go back a few version and get it)

I think, it is more about building new in-game asset with the amount of time limit they have before releasing the game. Sure you can take all the time you want but sometime it is the contract with your publisher/bank that will force you to release the game.

Actually, the leader of Unknown Worlds Charlie Cleveland tweeted on the release day that they have serious plans to bring all the scrapped Below Zero creatures to the game as mods:
"In case you missed it, I guess we just announced our plans with @Subnautica going forward: we're adding mod support.
We've seen the community create so much cool stuff that it seems only right to build it into the game. @slice3d has some details."
During 1-Up-Nerdcore's interview video, Subnautica dev Obraxis confirmed they have plans to bring the Ice Dragon to Below Zero.
People are probably going to mod it into the game

I play both subnauticas on the switch and I don’t know how to mod the switch, even if I did, I would use it for more games than just subnautica and subnautica below zero.

Having maida appear would have been perfect for the ending, and the game’s story as a whole imo. Tom confirmed she was going to hijack the alterra ship and fly out of 4546B, and there was a fantastic opportunity to have her and robin talk beforehand for a really good callback. Robin would ask “how are you going to get back to federation space?” And Maida could say “I’ll find my way back.” - like robin said when she first launched to find Sam! It could have been perfect, a callback to the very beginning.
A good dlc for this game would be to complete the old story since they already had it like 3/4 done before they had to change the story developer

I think that unknown worlds did great work, and I have nothing against them, but I feel like the original story line world have been so much better, I like being apart of alterra, and your sister being on the vesper, and the vesper being damaged, sending rockets for research, the rogue co worker turning on the shield, it was so intense and interesting, I feel like now there’s not much driving you to do stuff, al-an is the only character it feels like you need to finish their storyline since after you meet him he’s constantly in contact, I feel like we missed a very, VERY, great opportunity to match and exceed the 1st games storyline with flying colors, and the new story line just doesn’t come close to what the 1st iteration did even in the beginning of early access
I entirely agree with you. I was attached to both characters and it felt meaningful to have that dialogue and know you were not alone. I want a mod that restores the original story.
I just played finally through I started plying it a few times but lost interest each time before. What I can say is :
1. Below Zero has much less play time then the first
2. I also played the early access version I also liked it more looking back I know why now. After you left Margret(in the greenhouse) there is no urgency to do anything anymore everything which happened happened a long time ago. You only need to avoid beast. Also there is no plot twist anymore.
3. Also a lot of asserts were reused we only got the seatruck.
I wish we got that ending with margarite
She was such a incredible character. And the voice actor was just amazing. I feel we missed out on so much potential. She was a huge part of sn1 and she was incredibly interesting.

I think the reason the Alterra ship left was because Margarita hijacked it and left the planet.

What I think happened with the Margaret ending was that instead of her taking her own life for us, she instead went inside the ship and took over the ship and left to show alterra that nothing had happened and that it went wel. I don’t know if that’s just my imagination taking place or if that’s a legitimate theory

There is no way that anyone that sees the old script and ending can then say that the current one is better. The story overall was much better and had more heart in it with both sisters alive and the much more climatic ending. I really wish that we could have seen that original story through all the way. I would pay so much more than $30 for that version of the game.
Agreed. The old story was so much better, it's not even close. I still don't understand how they messed this up so bad. I know that the old writer quit during development, but why? And why did they decide to replace the old story with the new one that's neither cohesive nor interesting. Even the old dialogue with AL-AN is much more interesting, because it provides more insight into his race and it's not some pseudo-philiosophical talk about the human race.

I’m fine with how the game turned out, but this story seems better by a long shot. This seems way more interesting and is just ore satisfying then the final story version.
This is probably the biggest reason Subnautica Below Zero disappointed me so much. They proved several times throughout development that they are 100% capable of making a fantastic game! But they ended up using very little of the stuff that was super amazing, and actually removed more than they added. If I hadn't followed development I probably wouldn't have seen what they were truly capable of, and would probably be a bit more pleased with how Below Zero turned out, being blissfully unaware of what we truly lost.
Woah! I almost forgot the very first version of Below zero. When we were starting at base and our sister was alive. Damn time flies! :v

@@EDips875 The thing is its only stated that its banned from the standard survival kit due to the "incident" that happened, doesn't mean that someone like Jeff or the higher ups on the vesper don't have access to weapons of that type. Also remember that Sam's plot in the story is that she is trying to stop bio-weapons' from being produced so its not too far fetched
(I do understand the concern that the fact that it would be funky, but the way they established it makes it possible for this type of plot twist to work, also Margret knows how to make bombs so that might say something )
The idea behind change of the story (at least according to devs) was the fact that the old story did not give us the same feeling of being alone on a hostile planet, since we had a helper in orbit; so now, instead, we get... A guy to have philosophical debates with inside our head, like 10% into the game? How is that any different?

@@Nyami_Miyako If I'm imformed right, the reason for the plot switch was that the old story writer left (I don't know how or why -and I defienetly hope he/she didn't pass away, that would be horrible), and they started writing a new story with the new writer.
I presonaly like both of them, the first version because it showed that u dont have to be completly alone to enjoy a subnautica game + I think the voice choices were better. I'm still not sure about the alterra personal start tho. The second one actually fit it's purpose, I felt more alone but it was also a really good experience. I'm kinda glad they removed the air drops, those were OP. And the ending was amazing to experience (even for the 5th time). Sure, it could've been better but this was still really solid.
I really wish they went with the idea of concealing ALAN from your superiors, it felt like there was more at stake

If the team working on the Gargantuan Leviathan mod do actually end up making an Ice/Frost Dragon mod then the best place to put it would be the East Arctic and to have it replace the chelicerate that's there. The East Arctic is a huge open space and it matches the concept art perfectly. Also it would make total sense for Marguerite to build her green house on an iceberg that's above a giant, super cool leviathan. ALSO just like how they are adding new precursor stuff to Subnuautica in the Gargantuan Leviathan mod, the mod team could make the volcano thing at the bottom of the East Acrtic have more interesting/important architect stuff.
Its not only gargantuan mod that they making they are making the whole ancient but it would be cool to in below zero if they made an ancient mod

A combination ending of the two simultaneous stories would've been beautiful. Currently what we got was a lack luster Sam story because she was killed off before we could get attached to her like the previous version of the story and a mediocre Al-An story because that was originally the B-plot that turned into the A-plot and the official ending shows us as such. It's cool we got to see the home world but it doesn't truly feel earned like the first game did and thats entirely due to the fact the first game was a singular story and not two at once. This game really does have the unfortunate existence of being a sequel to a very exceptional predecessor.

Do you think there will be subnautica 3? For me it would be subnautica, below twilight (a refercence to the twilight zone in our world, where darkness and light meet in the ocean) it would be based around the discovery of a cave system leading to the void, and the cave caving in, in it there is an un touched ecosystem filled with bioluminescence and little oxygen except air pockets, there would be for example the oceanic phantom leviathan, which is friendly, yet can be your worst enemy if provoked
I always thought that a cool idea for Subnautica 3 or for a Subnautica movie would be about the Degasi crew. If it were a movie it Puls follow their journey and e would actually get a good look at how they lived and then it would end with them dieting except for Marg who at the end we would see drifting on the reaper until she finds sector zero. Or if it was a game I was thinking it would be more of a playable movie that follows the Degasi crew and you would get turns playing as each of them with (obviously) Marg being the last one you play as.
Im surprised that he never thought that maybe margeret didn't die there but got into the ship itself and took it over for herself because right before she disappeared it looked like she was bashing her way into the ship to me anyway.
Glad u covered it in your video, for those not understanding the ending. Jeff aka your college you betrayed you in the old story. He attempts to kill you or stop you from escaping, well that's when Marg, aka the woman in the prawn suit, attacks jeff's Alterra potentially a attack ship of some kind, marg destroys it after giving the ship some well placed hits, causing it to crash, and potentially killing jeff has a result, well before all this happened you will have seen a cinematic cutscene where the planetary shield got disabled.
I think the ending of below zero, was always to escape or get to home world of the architects. They had what looks like a complete idea of how it was gonna end pretty early in development.
Has the lead writer left, Tom, a new one took his position, changed a bit of the story, but keeping the element of escaping or getting to home world of architect s intact.
That's the alternate ending and old story explained in a nutshell.

After going to the greenhouse Marguerit can be found in her main base.
Thank goodness someone pointed this out! Like this is something not many people know. A lot of people just do thing with Marg at her greenhouse and then Neve redo anything with her again. But if you do go back to the base you can meet her again, scan her and scan/see the rest of her main base. While the story with Marg does still feel a bit unfinished, this feature makes it feel a lot less unfinished.

I can already see a fault with the original ending, in the original subnautica all weapons except the knife was removed after obraxas prime, so a space warship is very very far fetched in my opinion
Your point is very true, however it was stated that it was from the standard survival kit. The only way to make this fully work with the original story as well is that Jeff was the person to drive it OR one of the higher ups on the vesper.

It was stated that weapons were removed from the standard survival kit, not alterra in general.They still use weapons, they just aren’t supplied in standard survival kits

To clear up, the gunship is an alterra vehicle, piloted by an alterra pilot, from a off world location, with the intent to prevent a valuable test subject escaping(al-an).It was not built on 4546B.It is a military vehicle.Normal people cannot build it on vehicles bays or anything, but alterra is a super power, with military power, so they could build it

I'm one of the more judgmental people of Below Zero only because of how big of a roll Subnautica played in my life, but I still enjoy it. Just kinda pains me seeing more about some aspects that would've made the game so much more pleasing for me. I love marg AND I really hate that the Ice Dragon was scrapped.
I've also always found the Below Zero leviathans very lacking. They seem too small and simplistic, with the ice worm being the only plausible exception, and the fact that the Ice Dragon could've brought such a unique leviathan to the game is really sad to think about. Hopefully they make a third one that does focus on that sort of uniqueness. Makes me happy that the Garg devs have this in their sights though, couldn't trust anyone with bringing it the justice it deserves more than them.
Yes because i thingking if there is ice dragon that will be can be compare to the originals game leviatan like the checilerate with the reaper, shadows leviatan with the ghost leviatan, and the sea dragon with the ice dragon, that will be a unique compared to each game

Yeah I as well was very much bummed out how not scary any of the leviathans looked like. The shadow leviathan was decent and more terrifying then the sea dragon imo so that was good, but the rest was not scary at all.
Also hugely disappointed in the story. So much plot holes. It feels like a early alpha in terms of story. I wonder who made the decision that this was a good way.
I hope they spend way way more time on the next subnautica and analyze what worked and what did not. Need more mystics in the game.

@@gryhagelund5166 the giant shrimp? It's not even 2% scary. It's so passive. He attack and then he recharge for 30 sec before he attack again. No terrifying screams, easily confusable with the other weak predator that roams around it. The one with the swimming disfunction.
i thought the story overall was a little unfinished. Felt like stuff was missing, especially with sam. Robin's motivation for going to the planet is to find out what happened to robin but its completely optional side story
i went back to margaret's base in the lilly pedal palce after i met her at the greenhouse, and she was now chilling in the lillypad base. She seemed happy and content. with her pet.

If I was to add in the ice dragon I’d have it begin Incased in ice like the frozen leviathan but as the player approaches it have its eyes move and without warning begin an assault and if you managed to scan it it would reveal it makes its nests out of ice encasing themselves

Honestly when they removed the ice dragon I remember thinking that they could have made it a rare spawn in the void, like I 1/10 chance that instead of a void chelicerate it would be an ice dragon. Cause dam would that be awesome

Except the reason for creatures in the void is to make people not want to go there, to stop them from going over the edge of the map. If the ice dragon (or really any unique creature) it would encourage people there.
@@lisahenry20 well the ghost leviathan is terrifying and super cool looking, void chelicerate not so much, the ice dragon is actually scary looking and it's also huge.

she appears back in her lily pad base after you leave the greenhouse. Then she just eternally chills in it while messing with a pda and Preston sleeping.
Maybe it should have a primal survival focus at least early on and she could be the player character.
Most of the avenues in this game werent explored as heavily as I wanted. This game was rather short :(
Yeah and it was kind of easy compared to the first.
Even in full release, Below Zero's map size as well as It's Biome specific fauna/flora diversity feels a lot more smaller and budget cut as the original, Empty space for diverse fauna? THROW A SQUIDSHARK IN THERE. Beautiful landscape lacking in hostile creatures? THROW A SQUIDSHARK IN THERE. The story and cutscenes only make up for half of the empty void space for either secondary biomes, (like the two mushroom forests) or just something mind blowing, awesome and unique of a biome. These plain sparse arctic biomes ain't it chief. And these alternate endings would have been a big ol' cherry on top for a truly award worthy game. And the peeper leviathan, don't forget him too

I love the cut stuff from different games its sad that the battle ship ending never came but its really cool to see it in this way I really really love seeing stuff like this
Below Zero's story was very disappointing and lackluster to me. I didn't feel any reason to do anything. The original game's story-being infected and needing to cure yourself and get off the planet-made me want to play. It was my character who had the conflict. I was attached to the objective. Below Zero, though, gives the player no real connection to the objective. I only played through everything so I could say I beat it. I didn't actually care about the game like I did with the original.

2:59 his arms do not appear to be the same, they are instead extra regular human like hands without all of the fancy stuff
If you guys remember, there was a character named Jeff who activated the shield, I'm sure he was trying to kill you after you deactivated the shield, but Marguerite throws him into the water and flies away. There was also an anonymous voice that spoke to you halfway throughout the game, there were so many more characters and better development in the old version, it would have been so much better. Not to mention an actual threat to the seatruck.
Holy shit this is insane, the entire time I played I lamented to stream that I wish I could see the old ending. When it got to the ending and we slowly approach the phase gate I kept saying "Oh is Alterra gonna pop up suddenly with attack ships?" and as it crept closer I was thinking "No no! Marguerit is going to jump onto the ship from the phase gate or something!" Sadly it's just a really slow move towards it. But your telling me I unknowingly said what the OG ending was!? Damn insane, I hope a mod or something finishes it just so we can experience it
I think that the people working on the gargantuan leviathan should try to recreate the frozen leviathan i would literally pay hundreds of dollars to see something like that, it would take a lot of hard work though. But that would be awsome

I could just imagine the version with the 4 fins just have them stroking in different timing, first pair goes then as is gets ready for another one, the second one goes, in which it shows a powerful, yet oddly lazy stroke as it idles by, but when hunting it could get a boost of speed by moving them at the same time, lunging forward with each stroke as it hunts down prey. It could use the boost in speed when it freezes prey, making sure it closes in the distance before prey can break free and escape.
Shame that so much of this had to be cut for time constraints or whatever. What we got is still good but I wish they could've completed the full vision. Makes me think there was definitely behind the scenes drama that made them cut everything down.
I cant imagine how much more awesome this game could have been if they carried on with their previous plans...
I think there should be alternate endings where Alterra decides to intervene, as the tower logs litterally say that they are monitoring your every move and waiting to move in.
I hope the next game we get to either explore Al-an’s home OR play as Marg finding her crew mates (tho presumed dead).

Idk what happened but they had everything right at first. The voice actors, Frost Dragon Leviathan, Frozen leviathan (should’ve come to life), ending, Sam alive with fun dialogue, Margaret, sense of urgency. Would’ve been a better game. I didn’t enjoy Below Zero and I really wish I would of :/
When Alan was making the ship I thought something bad was going to happen
Third game should start with Margarete flying a rocket through the gate following them but crash somewhere else on the architect homeworld and attempting to make her way to them

@@i_will_consume_you3950For 2 years of development, the studio practically did not really do anything, the game is not much different from the beta version. We will wait and see, but I know in advance that it will not come out.
I love the ice dragon design, but the big big leviathan, the void leviathan i feel like shouldn’t have been a snake like model, i feel like it should have been like a colossal larger more map consuming creature that could easily destroy the cyclops, and possibly even the players base if it could reach that area, or maybe even have an insider area to explore in the actual creatures gut with a chance to escape, like those cliche wale stomach movie scenes.
Either that or the map could be deeper and be a host of more larger and horrific monsters within the void.
But either way that could just be me, since I’m a sucker for highly extreme features with video games on top of the fact I am also a massive horror fan, maybe thats not what subnautica below zero is going for, but the void leviathan is still mighty impressive with the entire flowing animation of it, alongside the model design itself and i could only imagine the immense amount of coding for the creature that must’ve been hard to manage just in and of itself, but for future subnautica games in general, i just feel like the larger a creature is, the more mystery and enigma is followed by it. Especially if its body even goes out of the players render distance.
I think the ending with the destroyer had potential to be amazing. The final ending seemed a little anticlimactic and lackluster. It needed a little something extra, some more panache. But we have what we got. I just hope they don't leave it completely open ended though.
My theory is that Maida hijacks the ship and then leaves with it hence the reason there's a long dialogue between her attacking the ship and taking off cause she's probably thanking you or wishing you luck

Marguerite doesn't die in her greenhouse in the current game, actually she doesn't die at all as far as I'm aware. If you go to her sea base after the satellite is disabled, she's still living there. It also comes with more to scan(most notably a shower).
Only thing I don't understand is how she survived during Subnautica 1 when the Kharaa was still there, but her comrades didn't. She was still infected, and I doubt she would've been alive when the planet was cured.
He meant it more metaphorically, in the full release her last interaction is at the Greenhouse and then that's it. She's "dead" in the sense she no longer contributes to the story and is kinda forgotten about, just like Sam after you meet Alan.
you used to start the game at the little base in front of phi robotics lab, some storm hit and it broke the ice that now seals the water in front of that little base. Thats how you got into the water, this is like day 1 release
TBH, i was kinda dissapointed when i found out there would be nothing done with the ice dragon nor the frozen leviathan
During 1-up-Nerdcore's interview video, Below Zero dev Obraxis told they actually have genuine plans bringing it and other scrapped creatures to the game as mods.

I really wish they kept it in that margrate (idk how to spell her name) gave you the white tablet and the ending with margrate destroying the alterra ship cause that would be so much cooler

Fun fact: in the early release, if you check out the mobile vehicle bay, the cyclops was supposed to be there. unfortunately, the cyclops could not be built.
I feel after having played the game, that the ending and some of the conclusions for the characters seemed rushed and not very fleshed out. I kept thinking there had to be something more that I had missed along the way. Something more about Sam, and Maida, as both their stories just well seem to drop to a degree. You can't even interact with Maida after talking to her in her base, after visiting the Greenhouse. I felt as though some of the story was missing.
That final is way more awesome than the one official.
My heart absolutely melted when I hatched a Sea Monkey especially when the adult monkeys followed it everywhere when I released it near by them
I wish they did stick with this ending! Is much more complete than what we get in the current ending. And the ice dragon should have been in the void.
fun idea: imagine the isle but with subnautica creatures the leviathan are the hypos
I think what was going to happen was Ol' Marg breaks into the ship and takes control, probably says something about repairing the big hole she made in the ship then heading off that hell of a planet. That would explain why the ship falls for a bit, aka her killing the pilots, then comes up and hovers, aka her thanking Robin/saying shes gonna be leaving the planet finally, and then flies off, aka to fix the hole then leave.

I wonder if they'll add this ending later on like how they added the Subnautica Sunbeam alternate ending after the community requested it SO much. But you'd only be able to do it in creative mode maybe.

When below zero first got out, there was an entrance begore jumping down on the frozen river thing. A architect structure which needed a tablet. I modded it and went in by inserting it. I saw that multiple ways were there but empty so something has to be there just not sure what it is since i havent really played it since then, but i saw it go down on the right and left, then more left on the right and right on the left side hallways and then it was blocked so people dont see it. But when i recently played it the start was different and i couldnt find it sadly
I would love to see IDL with missiles shooting at your seatruck. Maybe in the void to harvest the rarest resources form them.

Yeah. I really enjoyed playing it but I did notice that the stuff with her sister ended abruptly as well as marguerite, and the "small" number of leviathans.

Man I wish they kept this in the game, the ending we have now is cool and all but seeing margarite take down an entire Alterra spaceship would have been so much cooler, I would of loved to see some of the cut content in the game, still a good game

The entire original story was so so much better and more intertwined than what they changed it to, and I preferred the original voice actors and the better dynamic between Robin and Sam. Whoever decided changing everything was a good idea I’m really annoyed at.
Subnautica: The Degasi Mission
It would explain Margaret's origins in more depth but you get to play as that one guys son (from the voice logs in subnautica 1) and get to see the emperor leviathan ask for your help and- you get the point, Subnautica 3
Or maybe a story where Margaret and Riley meet up (maybe Riley returned to 4546B) and goes to a WHOLE new area like maybe an area where alterra has taken over (because the quarantine platform is disabled) and Margaret is imprisoned and you help her escape and help her find her Prawn Suit. Then alterra makes some sort of mutan leviathan...
OORRRRRRR you see the rest of the POV of that one guy Robin was talking to in the beginning of Subnautica Below Zero and he goes down to 4546B to find Robin then finds all of her builds an- I'm gonna stop now, but you get the idea subnautica 3 😎
