- Writer/Director Christy Hall takes us into the inspiration and making of DADDIO, starring Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn. Only in theaters June 28, 2024.
New York City. JFK airport. A young woman jumps into the backseat of a yellow taxi, the cabbie throws the vehicle into drive as the two head out into the night toward Manhattan, striking up the most unexpected conversation resulting in a single, epic remarkable journey.

When I finally moved to NYC at 27 (after a 13-year old me declared that I would do so one day), what surprised me right away was how friendly people were; the stereotypical NYer is not a mean person... just a straight-forward honest one. NYC changed my life in all the best ways and in every way. I had many a cab ride where I had conversations with wise drivers who ensured I got home safe while sharing some life-lessons along the way and I took to heart. I cannot wait to see this film! And I love that Christy Hall is from Oklahoma. I'm from a small town in South Texas.
Totally agree.
I loved listening to this director. Cannot wait to watch. Her excitement here is palpable.
Just saw this in the theater tonight---phenomenal movie!! There's a lot of beauty and nuance throughout. Top to bottom.....i knew very little about it going into it and would simply recommend going to see it.
This is a brilliant film with brilliant writing, directing and acting. Highly recommend.
I just saw this movie and I really loved it.. I loved how there was no agenda, no preaching.. just two characters connecting; exploring their humanity in a non-judgmental and open way. Loved it.
Same feeling
one of my favourite movies in 2024 so far.. so many different layers to it!!! great work & performances
Just saw the movie - absolutely huge! Awesome screenplay and stunning acting by both Sean Penn and Dakota Johnson
This movie was so compelling to see in a large theater. This interview is so illuminating I have to go back and see it again.
It's a great movie that, sadly, most people will likely never see.
Even I thought same
Thank you for this interview
Christy Hall has got my attention to anything she puts her name to. I haven't even watched DADDIO yet. Intriguing!
i loved this movie so much..
Great analogy Christy. Can't wait to see it with my daughter tomorrow.
Can't wait to watch it.
You have made an absolutely wonderful film and couldn’t have chosen two better actors to play girlie and Clark. Dakota is mesmerizing and Sean is at his best. Congratulations
she is amazing...the movie is more amazing. writer/director the next female Spielberg ..a trailblazer for women directors. she will go to the sky.
44th between 9th and 10th? Actors Studio.
SO excited to see this. Can anyone tell me how and when we can watch this in the UK? Thanks
Questo film dev'essere molto intenso. Quando uscirà in Italia?
I like the movie. Refreshing to put it simply. There were times I thought Penn's character was too vulgar and too focused on a stranger's sexuality. Blame it on the script. But it was nice
Loved the movie!
It looks well done.. I’ve been living in nyc over 20 years so it’s playing like sci fi but it looks well done..lol.. I’ll check it out though.
it is sci fi lol
Loved it and cried!Damn I should not be saying that!!
I thought this movie had so much potential to be great, but Sean Penn's character was way too vulgar to be taken seriously. He came off super creepy at times. I can not believe I am saying that because I'm the least prudish person you could ever meet, but there is a time and a place. Some will say this added to his humanity, but it did the opposite for me.
I didn't think it had potential to be great. But I thought it had potential to be better. I watched it when I wanted something simple and dirty, and give it a 2/5. It mostly seemed like the script was built off a couple observations which were turned into generalizations. I thought Penn's character was interesting, but mostly just served the function of focusing on a pretty young blonde girl's sex life. I didn't get the sense of who either of them were or what they wanted. *shrug*. Have you seen My Dinner with Andre?
NAGYON TETSZETT A LAZASÁGA, A KÖZBENSÖ TÖRTÉNETEK, A KÖTETLENSÉGE, NEM KELL EGY JO FILMHEZ MILLIÁRDOS KÖLTSÉGVETÉS, ITT A PÉLDA, ❤❤
This is a great interview with Christy. The movie was mesmerizing. Really enjoyed it. Could not have picked 2 better actors.
Enjoyed the script. Would've liked to NOT hear ANY "F" Bombs anywhere in the movie. They distracted from the message and were totally unnecessary. The script would have been more powerful without them & may turn off some viewers.
Yeah, I thought the movie would have been so much better if Penn's character had been less vulgar. He really came off as super creepy with all his sex talk. I'm not prudish in the least, but there is a time and a place
good effort, but surely too sugar-coated for the reality what NYC and yellow cabs are today. 20-25 years ago I certainly was able to talk to the taxi driver, sometimes having a good meaningful good convo. Nowadays, drivers are all on their phones, and any effort to engage them ends with being ignored or just silently handed a bottle of water. Decent nostalgic attempt, I'll give a try watching
Being a NYer this movie was silly. NYers do talk to anyone so nothing new there, and the inner child stuff is about 30 years behind the times, that was an 80s thing,
This film was done already ...and more authentically in 2016. H.O.M.E.
