- Arcade1Up NBA Jam Deluxe 2 Player Cab Announced! So Why Am I Disappointed? Arcade1Up today announced a "new" cab with a new 2 player NBA Jam Deluxe. Changing some of the 4 player cabs to 2 player has long been a community request so this is a good announcement right? Well there is another design change that is so unnecessary and defeats all the good done.

This seems like an experimental cab as far as I'm concerned- whatever their legal things are aside, from their more well known Deluxe cabs. I say, the only Jam cabinet that I have is the 2 Player Countercade. And while it's small, I always liked the 2 Player factor. This would be a worthy upgrade for the size in itself. The foot stand, might've been okay with the casino vibe on the Wheel of Fortune machine. But because the games were all changed out, and the skin is different, it's basically at this point "if you wanna get close to the screen, and change your stance mid gameplay (lol)- then this is your cab" kinda vibe. I can imagine like a kid wanting to do that.
Now we need a 2 player turtles in time, Simpson s blitz X-Men and Golden axe

100% agree with every word you said. I’ve been looking at this cabinet but didn’t want to foreplay so I was watching videos on the two player mod and then I saw this and was so excited until I actually saw it..😢
I love my Casinocade. Great form factor. And being the only one playing my cabinets, having this game in a slender version is wonderful! I think it looks sharp! It's not going to tip over unless you play like a Gorilla! Back in the arcade days, I remember playing all kinds of games on different cabinet styles. Playing Phoenix on the upright and Phoenix and on a cocktail table was cool! I like this new slim design! Looks like a version I might see in a pub or in a hotel lobby back in the 80's, like I saw those small Pac-man cabinets and so many cocktail cabinets! Remember Joust on the Cocktail cab? So nice and elegant! ....I just placed my order and I'm going to enjoy this NBA JAM cabinet thoroughly!
My arcade is a bit claustrophobic, and a less thick (front to back) cab might be something to help with this issue. Having this cab and any other former 4-player cabs in the 2-player configuration is a must when space is a prime factor. This new form factor appeals to me. Yes, it's not what most were hoping for, but I'm thinking that Arcade 1up is going through a financial crisis and trying to figure out a cheaper way to manufacture and ship product if they need to do in order to stay alive as a business. The only issue I have with this new cab design is the side art will not have enough real estate to look correct now.
They do a two player deck for a golden axe re-release, I’d be in for that.

Thanks for the shout out. Great catch on the casino cade cab... I thought it looked oddly thin. Now it won't line up with anyone's arcades unless they leave a big gap in the back. Odd choice.

Literally all they had to do was just sell a replacement two player deck that you can swap out for the 4 player games like NBA Jam, Blitz and X Men
If I was an arcade1up UA-camr, I would ingest some pre-workout, fire up my computer and a film a Cary Hardy type rant about the new form factor. Then (like Cary Hardy), I would wake up the next day and promptly private the video.

I’m getting this just to mod as an Open Ice cab. I have the 2 player deck from 99Lives arcade and it’s 1000 times better anyway.
It’s not a new release but a new form factor so hopefully 1Up rereleases TMNT, Golden Axe, Simpsons, X-Men etc as updated 2 player cabs.

That's a very interesting perception you had of the cab, I personally saw it as a you Stretching because of the similar wood piece in the front, like the casinocade.
To me it looks like a regular Midway cab with the back of it cut off so it has less Depth, and the sides aren't as wide because it isn't a Modded 4 player base with a 2 player deck like are used to seeing so its closer together.
The Riser cabs had issues with Stability on the riser so no, One one wanted to step on the cab to stabilize it, But I bet the Deluxe cabs that do rock side to side from the entire base on up, would like a piece of wood to step on.
The natural Stance when playing the cab already has a person put one foot forward in an attempt to use their foot to press against the cab. Now they can step on Something rather than pressing their foot forward.
I don't know B. You have very interesting ways of seeing things that for sure! Again, to me it looks like a Regular Cab that has less depth.

How does the game decide if the second player is a teammate or an opponent? Is this a custom ROM?

This is good. Late, but good. This will be stable. Casinocades are not toppling. That said no reason for more back. More space in the game room. Thumbs up.
A 2 player NBA Jam cabinet doesn't seem right but it's good for someone trying to save space just like TMNT cabinet
Mike, they have to put the foot on there in order to try and stabilize the cabinet because it is so lacking in depth.
I agree Mr B, this is not cool, they sacrificed the excellent 3/4 scale size arcade for what? for a whopping space saving 2 inches! some will probably buy it but I wont be a big number, like you said, this is a big missed opportunity for them, all they had to do is replace the 4 player deck with a 2 player one and boom, instant winner, hopefully this is the only cab with this style we will ever see.
I wouldnt have even noticed the width difference without you mentioning it and then prompting me to check the dimensions, so thanks for that. I actually didnt mind the step pad mainly just to give the deluxe a bit more bottom surface area for stability, but not at the cost of width or depth. I've just never been a fan of the Deluxe style compared to the riser model because Deluxe rocks back and forth much easier on carpet whereas riser stayed more planted. I made it a bit better with a BuyStuff deluxe riser, but it made it annoyingly tall as a tradeoff. I just wish A1U stuck to Riser models and especially XL models. Deluxe looks nice but feels worse in use for me.
I'm a fan of just the 2 player control deck. The 4 player was just awkward looking and cramped.

Sometimes I hit gold when I come across one of your videos and this one is it! I don't think you were being overly negative here, just expressing your thoughts and doing so in a way that can hopefully perk up some ears at Arcade1Up.
I was also among the many who reached out to Arcade1Up to ask them for 2 player variants of their 4 player cabs. My big ask was for that Sega Golden Axe cab to get this treatment. Unfortunately, it's a little too late for me, as I have no more room in my Home Arcade for more 3/4 scale cabs. If Arcade1Up brought something like this out in 2019 or 2020, (well, it would have to come in a two piece design with a riser for me) it might have found a place in my Home Arcade. As it stands, I already have all the cabinets I want, and anything new has to compete for an occupied space.
I agree with you here Michael. This skinnier version doesn't appeal to me either. Now if Arcade1Up could've got these smaller cabs to a $199 price point, then I think they could justify this new size variant, but charging the same price as a full sized one piece Deluxe? Well, let's just say I like that you pointed out what this new NBA Jam really is.

I gotta agree with you on this one. If A1Up had done a 2 player in a standard deluxe at that price I would have been a buyer (not a big fan of NBA Jam, but I would have bought it just to support A1Up). They should stick to XLs, and deluxe cabs. The community keeps telling them what we want, not sure where they're getting these ideas from
I didn't notice the change till you pointed it out! That looks terrible 😳 I thought it was the regular Deluxe form factor with the two player deck. I noticed the side art looked abit off but never looked long enough at the images to figure out way. What a dumb form factor to go with. They took a step back today in a department they were getting better in
How come we haven't seen any leaks for this cabinet? How was it able to stay quiet til now?

You know, I think I have figured it out. I've seen this before with another company back in the 80s. The CEO and a bunch of employees leave the company and go start their own company meanwhile the main company Arcade 1 up runs without them for a few years and begins to make crappy products that no one buys and later will be on the brink of bankruptcy. Arcade 1 Up will then agree to buy the company run by its former CEO and in 5 years Arcade 1 Up will be making new fresh arcades again with Scott and John D back at the helm. Just got to wait guys. History will repeat itself.

TBH, with this design they are fixing something that's not broken making it skinnier like that. The reason why I liked the previous deluxe and XL cabinets is they where starting to look more like the original cabinets they where based on but this is straying from that and it looks like they are applying the Apple design philosophy to them unnecessarily. This makes me feel like I'm good with just the currently released deluxes..
If this is the indication of the future, GI Joel may want to look into deepening mods... haha

Looking at it and the previous midway style deluxe cabinet design it mainly looks like they chopped off 5" from the depth and added that casinocadestep on the front to stabilize it... ugh.
yes the UA-cam Jazz is back, but I respectfully disagree. I want arcade machines the way I remember playing them. I didn't notice the casinocade feature, lol. Nice catch
Also... the wood isn’t real wood (minimal cost). A1Up probably save little on material, but a pit on packing and shipping..
2 player is fine. The form factor is garbage. Looks terrible and won’t be stable. Arcade 1up is so out of touch with their fan base. I honestly think this cab is born out of cost cutting measures more than size concerns as Shipping costs will be less with this.
My biggest fear is that this will be the same shape in the tmnt rerelease.

@@Pugyeg I mean, if you find it's ugly, you're entitled that opinion. They have several form factors. Each form factor appeals to its target. It works for some and not others. If it's not for you, that's ok. It just means you move on.
This will not help those of us who already thought Arcade1up was a dying breed. This could ultimately be the final nail in the coffin.

The Deluxe Ver. 2
Arcade 1Up has been here in this space for awhile. How the heck has no one mentioned they need better controls for this price point.
I like that fact they released a two player deck but you are right, slimmer design is goofy. Also, it is around 25-30 pounds lighter then a normal Arcade1Up so going to feel CHEAPER due to the lack of weight.
It's actually a 6-7 pound difference of the MK 2 DLX or SF 2 DLX... But yeah, lighter isn't good with competitive cabinets like this at ALL. It's also quite a bit less in depth than MK & SF DLX as well which is ridiculous.
This begs the question, why not just go back and buy one of the many NBA Jam rehashes with a better form factor and cheaper price. I'd like to see some NBA players actually try playing this cab.
I really hope this isn't the form factor for all future releases. If so, I'm done buying cabs. They otherwise did a lot of good things here, but altering the dimensions of the cab is a big FAIL.

If this was an XL 2 player, it could’ve been decent…though a new title would’ve been better in general. Instead it looks like it went on ozempic a lil too long and now looks deflated imo. Another rehash as needed as a wet fart.

Crazy that it's 6 pounds lighter than the casinocade, and 1 inch deeper.. That 6 pounds will make a difference negatively!
Why mannn...I'm so tired of tying to adjust to A1UP changes. The deluxe form factor as FINE. I pray this isn't the new Deluxe size for new machines going forward. I mean this looks crazy goofy.
I’d rather have a wider arcade, if you want space, buy a xbox. I would prefer a truer 4 player cab and all they’re doing is using a bigger name to get rid of old stock and materials

Isn't it obvious why they are doing it? Money. The 2 player deck and reduced size saves them money. Money on wood, money on packaging money on shipping. It's why your Snickers bar is half the size it was 10 years ago. shrink-flation. All of these things are signs of a company reaching for the liferaft.
This is an ABOMINATION
They should make every cab in all the form factors so people can collect the versions they want. But like. Where are the new XLs? This is even smaller.

“Casino-Jam” is a lean towards the toy world and further away from replica. If you embrace the “Toy” association, this is easier to swallow. Still a really ugly, cheap toy though.
Dang brother...so negative. I really feel at times you're too overly critical. I honestly don't see an issue with the extra step. Definitely not the end of the world imo.
