For those wondering, Opal's forgetfulness is actually explained in the book 'Guide to the Crystal Gems' It's not a trait of Amethyst or Pearl, but a result of them coming together, so it's completely Opal. The quote is as follows:
"Amethyst's ability to live in the moment plus Pearl's obsessive single-mindedness result in a Fusion that is very balanced. Opal achieves a peace in that balance that Amethyst and Pearl rarely experience on their own. Such peace, in fact, that Opal can sometimes completely forget what she's supposed to be doing"

In guide to the Crystal Gems, it says that Opal achieves a peace that Amethyst and Pearl can't achieve on their own, and in that peace they forget.
I haven’t read that but it makes sense. I always thought of Opal as an athlete who was either in the zone with perfect focus or anxious. Or since she’s a fusion, in the zone or nonexistent.

I guess it's a budget thing. Aimee Mann may have auditioned etc but casting her has a fee since she's worth money thanks to her fame. However this is a Cartoon Network + Dove collaboration meaning a better budget. Let's also keep in mind that Aimee may have had a lot of tours or been busy in other ways.
It’s also probably a thing with Pearl and Amethyst not getting along well throughout most of the show and not needing many reasons to fuse.
CelesteWolf Animates, yeah true but as for the not needing to fuse often, true I guess but Sardonyx, Sugilite, Alexandrite, Malachite, etc. weren’t in the series much but we did get a good grasp on their voice and personality while Opal was kinda just... there.

I think the reason opal is so forgetful is due to pearls organized nature clashing with amethysts carefree nature. I think opal has tunnel vision meaning she’s so caught up in the moment( kinda like amethyst) that she forgets everything else around her and with pearls perfection nature it would make sense for opal to be dead set on one thing and doing it perfectly, carelessly forgetting everything around her.
That's pretty close on the actual explanation for her forgetfulness, which is explained in the "guide to the crystal gems" book
Where it states that Opal does in fact combine Pearl's obsessive compulsive tendencies with Amethysts ability to live in the moment
In such a way, that creates a sense of peace that under normal circumstances could not be single handedly formed by Pearl or Amethyst alone
And through that said sense of peace, Opal becomes very forgetful as a result

3:14 i think when steven fused with greg (a mature human) his fusion was able to boast the full abilities of pink diomands gem. On the other hand, Stevonie just becomes taller, while slightly increasing stevens abilities to utilize the gem. I think this is because connie isnt fully grown. Once she becomes an adult, (or older than she is now) Stevonie may become more powerfull. Another possibility is that since greg and steven are related, they may be able to fuse in a more complete way.

Stevonnie does have powers it just more Physical than magic. Suchas increased Agility, hand eye Coordination, and focus.
The opal forgetfulness thing comes from pearls perfectionist and amethysts creativity, making opal focus on being perfect when expressing herself and forgetting everything else. For example when she was flipping and being badass in giant woman she forgot the beetle
Im assuming they could only afford Opal for the movie and commercial because of the increased budgets.

4:45 that's a common mishap with Chile Tid. It's actually pronounced (Chilli-Teed). My proof the moment when Steven was having a black and white dream about going to the dance with Connie when Steven opens the door the first thing Garnet says is Chile Tid.
Wouldn’t be surprising if post-timeskip Stevonnie is more powerful than they were at before.
But stevonnie has connie's agile combat skills combined with Steven's powers
Along with her training in the wild like how stevonie survived off planet. I think Connie brings sword fighting and surviving technics to the table, alone with a boosted energy. Once she's older, i could see the fusion being stronger

remember fusion inst just a combination the previous gems, fusion its a conversation, its an experience; so its very possible for opal to be forgetful when their doing everything in their power to have fun together and focus on staying fused. at least thats what i think.
If Stevens blood has healing powers then stevonnie must be pretty strong
You can see part of how Garnet's future vision works in Arcade Mania with how she predicts the colors
In meat beat mania episode you can see garnet using her 3rd eye to play the game
Also in Reunited she didn't know diamonds are coming until she opened her 3rd eye

Another example of Garnet only using one eye to use future vision is during the episode 'Meat Beat Mania', where when Steven took off Garnet's shades, only her middle eye was going crazy with colors and movement, while her other two eyes were still and looking forward, persumably focused on the present game.

Only now I realize that opal stands like a ballerina, on her toes, it's a neat detail knowing pearl dances with elegance and stuff
Remember the episode when Garnet was shaking the hams, her third eye changed colors as it moved to pinpoint the upcoming locations to jam with the hams. Maybe, as her two eyes look as the task at hand, the third eye changes color and darts out to different points of views as the eye literally sees the outcome appear before her like when Steven went thru each possible outcome in an instant before making the best decision.
Steg’s power comes from Stevens floating combined with Greg’s ability to touch people with his music.
Mabey Stevonnie doesn't need anything extra because all of her abilities tie into a normal Human body. You don't need more than 2 arms to use a shield and sword, you don't need more than 2 eyes to see your surroundings, and you don't really need anything else of the sort for acrobatic abilities, those can all be done by Humans

I'd like to think that this short happens between Change Your Mind and the movie. Because Pearl is now really starting to express herself, so she would be more open in her fusions allowing Opal to talk more and show more of her personality too.
It’s nice to see Opal with an actual personality. She’s usually more of a utility than a person, so it’s cool getting a taste of who she is after all this time!
I’m happy that they are having more Opal stuff! It appears Opal’s voice actress is much more available now so hopefully there’s more Opal content!
We finally got to hear more from Opal! Loving the dove esteem x steven universe shorts they give out great messages.
I remeber rebecca saying opal is forgetful because pearl's one track mind and amethyst's ability to live in the momment mix together to form a really relaxed personality that gets so relaxed they forget things

Here's a counterargument about Stegg. Since Steven is literally the Biological son of both Greg and Rose, there's a strong possibility that gem on gem fusion rules still apply since he has a little bit of Greg in him already plus Rose. Kinda like a USB adapter that has a converter that allowed you to work it with another type of USB adapter slot. You can argue, this could be a version of a hypothetical fusion between Rose and Greg made literal.
Since there's nothing tying Connie and Steven together other than race, the rules may play out a little differently.
I would say I was first but that would be completely unoriginal and possibly untrue
Talking about how garnet uses her future vision with her 1 eye and seeing normally with the other two eyes makes me wonder about the scene where garnet is playing the arcade game and she becomes locked onto her future vision to keep playing, she was seeing the game but she wasn't seeing Steven trying to pull her away from the game so this make me question if its a case of split vision like a chameleon. They can look in two independent directions but will focus together to lock onto targets like food. I feel like I just answered my own question but it's still a little head stirring.
During the episode were Garnet was playing at the arcade meat beat mania we can see her third eye moving like crazy and the other two were focused on the game.
Also Rebecca Sugar said that opal in forgetful because of how relax she is, pearl and amethyst have completely opposite personalities, so when the fuse they can achieve perfect balance making opal so calm and relax that she forgets what she was doing.
Using the logic that when a fusion is well balanced looks more humanoid, that makes stevonnie THE perfect fusion, even better than garnet.

I remember hearing somewhere that the reason Opal was so forgetful was because it took a lot for Pearl and Amethyst to vet along so she ia usually concentrating on staying together.
The best example for the garnets top eye sees the future while the others see normally is arcade mania where garnet is playing the ham game and her top eye is showing colors while the others are normal
I think the powers we see Steg pull off are, once again, augmentations of Steven's powers. Just like how Blue Diamond emits a blue aura when her emotional powers are active, Amethyst and Pearl have a pink aura around them during Steg's performance.
One of the books (guide to the Crystal gems I think) said that the reason Opal is so forgetful is because she’s such a delicate balance between Amethyst and Pearl’s personalities
My favorite short was the "We Deserve to Shine" one
We need a short mini series about each fusion doing their thing so we get multiple lines from them all and see them in both comedic and serious situations.
Perhaps Greg has extra latent powers over and above 'normal human powers'. He is already a good musician so if that ability got a boost from a diamond then it could unlock a new power set.

OK, so, jere's my theory (don't know if anyone else proposed it though): I think that the reason behind why a fusion would have specific extra limbs of body parts is due to the fusers commonalities and diffences, as they are the imbodyment of the fusers reletionship. You can actually see this in most if not all of the fusions.
firstly, Garnet; she is the fusions of Ruby and Sapphire. The two are very close, as their relationship is based on their love and careness for eachother. Due to the state of their relationship and their closeness, they both go the same ways and choose to act as one and go to different places as one. Thus Garnet always has to normal pair of arms and legs. However, as a part of their dirfferent nature as indeviduals, their relationship consists of them combining both ruby's active and impolsive nature (Garrnet's first eye) with Sapphire's passive, cold and distant nature (Garnet's second eye) thus creating a new unique P.O.V of them as a couple (Garnet's third eye).
Secondly, Opal, the fusion of Amathyst and Pearl. While the two often butt heads, both Pearl and Amathyst have more in common than they would like to admit. Both showed insecurities regarding their worth as a person/Gems that led to them find some sens of worth and comfort in Rose; Pearl, with her worth as a pearl who was a servant and Amathyst with her worth as an over cooked Gem. Meaning both view themself and the world pretty similarly (leading to the single pair of eyes) Both are also shown to have a very close realstionship to steven, oftenly being around him and playing a large roll in his life (a.k.a one pair of legs). Their differings comes to place in their actions and reaction to things, with pearl being nervous and uptight to Amathyst being careless and impolsive (resoting in to pairs of arms).
And lastly Malachite, the toxic fusion between Lapis and Jasper. Both don't are lost and don't really know where to go at the time of fusing, Malachite doesen't even have a real pair of legs. They act differently before fusing as an indevidual and don't know how to act fused resolting at three pairs of arms, despite only having two fusions. Both view everything from the Crystal Gems and Steven to their reasin to fuse contradictly, making is so that Malachite has two pairs of eyes. Their relationship was a made while not even having the same thought to it's reason of existance in the first place, and it shows on their fusion.
These are only a few reasons but you can pretty much do this to with all fusions.

Steven and Connie have just the same powers but Connie is just really helping Steven due fusion they both don't change but become an fusion but with steg they take gregs ability too get people to something like an concert too too get people fly I think that makes sence

Out of Connie and Greg, Connie is actually more physical and Greg is more likely to use his words. Ex: when Connie flipped a kid for touching her, and when Greg told Marty to get out of his van. It's possible that Stevonnie is actually physically stronger, while Steg actually has more psychic abilities added to Steven's arsenal. Stability doesn't necessarily have anything to do with strength though, as we have seen with fusions like Malechite.
Remember when Garnet played Meat Beat Mania? It was only her middle eye that moved. Maybe that ties into what Awestruckvox said about her other 2 eyes seeing the present and her third seeing the "future".
I always thought Steg's power of levitation through rock and roll was a combo of Steven's own floating ability and the greater instrument experience Greg has.
Basically Steg's levitation is a stronger form of Steven's own power, applied through a method that both share, but Greg has greater experience with as a result of being older and having had more practice playing a guitar.
The way Vox explained future vision for garnet it makes me feel like Sugar based that off observation haki xD

I think when it comes to future vision with Garnet ruby sees what Sapphire sees because while they were separated and held captive by Jasper and Peridot she frustratedly mentioned she couldn't see when wondering where was Sapphire was being held.
Steg might have extra stuff cuz Steven is basically a genetic duplicate of greg with some pink diamond flavoring. So the introduction of what the gem recognizes as just more Steven dna might unlock stuff, whereas connie, who is genetically dissimilar, adds nothing new and in fact hampers the floating powers by turning what would normally be floating into ascension by effort "the yoshi jump".
Consider the following: if gems didn't exist, humans would be the terrifying space conquistadors.
THEORY: what if a humans fusion is determined by birthstone? Greg's birthstone could be something besides a diamond, while Connie's birthstone could be a diamond, so Steg is like two different gems fusing gaining new powers and unfamiliar form while Stevonnie being two of the same gem have the same powers just being bigger, like the Ruby squad. (Anyone else remember when Connie had sparkly blue diamond eyes?)

4:49 I assumed they could heal but it would take the same kind of energy it takes to shapeshift. Sorta limiting their ability to heal quickly in battle.
If they can’t heal than post battle they would need to dissipate/poof to get HP back.
Small Steg headcanon, what if, like a fusion's weapons merge, Steg combines Greg's ability to "move" people with his music with Steven's levitation power, giving him the power to physically move other beings?
I just realize out of all the fusions, stevonnie is the only won without a unique power, even steven and greg fusion had his own unique powers
Actually opal using two hand to hold the bow and another two hands to fire arrows is looking damn symmetrical

Many stegs powers are just powers Steven will access when he is older. Like Greg is an adult and genetically similar to Steven so he is used as in addition to fusion a experience amp so to speak as a short cut to most of Stevens adult powers
But we've seen multiple times when Garnet's third eye suddenly opens before having a vision, so I think his explanation is a little bit extended, which I can understand why, I just think he should've mentioned or show those scenes when her third eye opens(or she grabs her glasses to focus) right before an event. So to "confirm" that her third eye helps with future vision is kinda not necessary since we've seen it before in the show and movie. Also, I think having all three eyes opened while doing something, like fighting Jasper, only allow her to see in short future vision, unlike when she's not moving and completely concentrated in seeing further in time
I feel like Opal is combined when Amethyst and Pearl are very in the moment and less focused
Whenever they do appear it's usually briefly so being forgetful occurs often

Opal saving Steven was the general thing focused on in the moment
So they forgot about what was originally planned to avoid conflict amongst each other
This trait is expressed similarly in Sugilite, they lose control because they feel like they don't need to care about what they do in the moment and become reckless, having the ability to see in the future doesn't really help
I thought Opal’s forgetfulness was because Pearl can be focused on a topic while Amethyst lives in the moment. So when both personalities are combined (let’s say saving Steven) Opal is hyper focused on that particular moment she’s living in.
I've had a personal belief that once a fusion reaches 3 gems (with a sapphire included) It gains the ability to break the fourth wall, hence the talk show-esk personality from both Sunstone and sardonyx
I think the reason Opal is so forgetful is because she combines and amplifies Amethyst's lack of attention to detail with Pearl's precision and focus. Opal is a gem that is always and only in the moment. She didn't just forget the heaven beetle, she was so occupied with saving Steven that she completely ignored why they were there in the first place. We also see that Amethyst and Pearl really only fuse when they're both focused on what they're doing at that moment, say saving Steven, moving the drill, backing up Stevonnie, or getting into that song in the movie. It also makes sense when you see how they both always look at the past and future, and rarely on the now.
IIRC, it was stated to be Pearl's focus and precision combined with Amethyst's ability to live in the moment without worry or care. It blends together in Opal to give her such confidence and peace of mind that she just straight up forgets what's not in front of her.

1: what ever steg sings becomes true "isnt the thought just enough to lift you off the ground?" Thats why pearl flew because steg sang it
2: because Steven's power is to float based on his emotion , and Greg doesn't have any main problems while pearl has the whole rose quartz mess and Greg got over it, Greg has emotional stability Steg can fully control Steven's floating powers
I think that the reason Stevonnie has only powers that come directly from Steven because they are both so young. Perhaps with age come new powers for a fusion, which would explain why Steg has new abilities.
I gues best power of Stevonnie is how fast she can adapt to new situation. This is kinda fastest i can imagine. How this fusion get fast solutions for multiplay problems, like a Ametyst gem in a hand of Jasper, only 2 sec to shatter, or when she get to some space moon and need to get water and food. That's... yea, cool.
On my Steven universe amino I had a theory that the more compatible gems are the more human like their fusion would be so cool to have that confirmed
