  • My 1998 LS 400 is a great car, really well built, unusually reliable. I made this video to give me a chance to explain the reasons I bought this car. Shortly after making this video the car was sold, it will go down as one of the nicest cars I've owned. This car is known in other markets as a Toyota Celsior UCF20.

Dude, you are CRAZY for selling your LS 400! I would never sell My Lexus LS 400. I had mine for 10 years now and would never part with my car.

Well many people think it's crazy how often I switch out my mode of transport, but I just tired of driving the same thing after a while. The LS was a great car but somewhat excessive for just me, 4000 lbs V8 and all. For this upcoming winter I'll be picking up a new RWD toyota, a 1998 Toyota Chaser :D. I hope to get a video out soon!

I’ve driven silvias, 240s, lots of 90s Lexus, newer Toyota’s, but my pearl black 91 LS, with walnut interior is my dream car. Yes it’s a lot for one driver, but it’s too luxurious to not treat yourself because of its mpg, ratio wise this car is 10/10 I can’t sleep st night knowing it’s in my front yard it’s too smooth, it’s quick, it’s big, it’s sleeping comfortable, it’s sexy, and the pwr button makes it a rocket ship, never will I get another car honest

    I own a 98 LS400 as well as a 2000 E39 540i 6speed M-sport, I prefer to drive my LS every day. Its just a nice place to be.

I agree with most of your comments, I own a LS 400 1998 myself.. Its one of the most overbuild cars there was... I am @ 176k miles and it still sounds and runs like new..

i would never give up my 1999 LS, it is simply the most pleasurable, fantastic car to drive! keep in mind that the LS 400 is THE lexus, before the LS 400 there was no lexus and it really shows that they took the time and effort to design the car super well in order for toyota to establish its position in the luxury market. i have a video on my channel of me balancing a coin on the engine while it's idling, even with 110,000 miles!

I always wanted a Lexus LS400, but I was so naive about my first Lexus. My first Lexus and last Lexus was 1992 LS 400 and I was kind of disappointed that CD changer was built in the trunk in the of the car and plus I bought for 10,000 dollars, which was not worth the money at that time. I bought my 1992 Lexus in 2001 and I wish I had done my research on the Lexus. I learned that the mid to late 1990's LS 400 were the best. My next car became the KIA Amanti 2005 model, which I love. My car only has 45,000 miles on it, since I do not like to drive that often. My recommendation is do your research on getting a Lexus and avoid buying a early 1990's LS 400, you might end up regretting it.

After I bought this LS I let my dad drive it, he was so impressed he bought an LS430. It’s been over 10 years since then and he still has the 430. Never had any major problems.

I have a 1998. The interior of the car is not quiet like some believe. Over time the car just gets a louder cabin and ride isn't as cushy. I will say the engine and transmission are that of a newer car. People can't believe mine is 19 years old. You can't feel the transmission shift and the engine sounds thunderous (even though the car is intended to be a quiet luxury car).
    Common problems:
Starter going bad. Just replaced mine.
Rack and pinion leaking fluid. Can wait on this by adding some fluid every now and then.
Strut rod bushings going bad. Replaced strut rods and made a huge difference.
If you buy one just make sure to service/change oil. I use Mobil 1 full synthetic.

I also think 1990's LS400 had a beautiful body style to it. But for me personally, I would not feel safe or comfortable buying a car that has over 100,000 miles on it. No matter what name brand car it is.

im thinking about getting one but the MPG has me hesitating, I wanna get it as my first car and i plan on doing a lot of city driving. is it worth it?

      +Juwan Aimés I drive a mixed city/suburban route and get 20 mpg.
On the level open highway at a very constant 67, I've gotten 35.

    Honest question....
I am driving a 2002 Dodge Stratus with a 2.7 liter V6 (also known as the sludge monster, yes it's that notorious), I have an opportunity...
My father recently purchased a Lexus LS400 circa 1992 with 82,000 miles on it, was garage kept by an elderly man, timing chain was replaced at 79,000 miles. MINIMAL wear on the exterior and interior, A/C needs a recharge but its still cool and works, has the 5 CD disk changer, and EVERY AVAILABLE OPTION circa 1992 including the Nakimichi premium audio package.
I am able to to a straight trade, and just pay for tax, tag & title transfer. I know I am buying a legitimate classic car now as its over 25 years old, the question is, should I?

I like my 99 Is more than my 06 430 Ls . The 99 has a softer ride and its more quiet . The Ls430 is a great car but build quality is not up to par comparing to the 400. The 430 is a stripped down version of the 400.

Wrong. The LS430 is a loaded up version of the LS400 you *STUPID FUCKER!*

      '98-'00 LS400 0-60 in 6.3; quarter mile in 14.8
      '02 TL Type S 0-60 in 6.2; quarter mile also in 14.8
TL weighs 400 pounds less, mpg is the same, the LS400 V8 is quieter with less vibration while cruising and sounds better at full throttle.

I bought a 1997 Nissan Silvia after I sold the ls. The ls was such a higher quality car, it always felt like an expensive machine, especially when compared against a Nissan, but the Silvia is a pretty car and it's fun to drive so it's a nice change.
