@StuartVaughan47 This is a standard road car they're using for recce, it will have all the pre-collision and lane keep stuff in the front bumper as is standard with all GR Yaris'
@@gsonz172it’s not, I’ve driven it for work for three months, it’s lidar sensors in the bumper. They send out magnetic pulses, and read the signal of them bouncing back to detect how close you are to objects around you. Has nothing to do with a camera, the only camera it has is for reversing.

I did a bunch of spirited snow driving in my Miata the other day. Getting a feel for it, trying things out, pushing limits. Crashed twice in 3 hours. Once from understeering wide, once from a spin to the inside. The plowed road edges were like meter-high cotton balls, so there was no damage, and my friend was able to pull me out without much issue. It's amazing how things go so well, and then when the crash is happening, you're telling yourself, "Here? Really?! You've gotta be kidding me." Then you get out, try to walk around, fall a couple times, and it all makes sense. From that experience, now I know that going out and doing that kind of driving on my own is totally out of the question.

Happens to the best of us also clear example why understeer is way more dangerous than oversteer and tbh awd is a double edged sword but keep up the pace mate 👍
Wdym understeer? This is literally lift-off OVERSTEER. The rear tires just lost traction because of load transfer to the front of the car and the rear started sliding.
Really impressive seeing when you decided it wasn't going to work, and aiming for the best possible area there and just getting it slowed down as much as possible. Rest of the drive seemed quite nice, but that red barrel on the right was a bit tricky just before the run down into the crash corner :o
He blipped the throttle as if it were RWD after the counter steer. So instead of the backend meeting him through the turn, the front end got pulled left.
@@jakubjancikI wonder if just stepping of the throttle (perhaps with some slight counter steer) would of straightened the car out - what are your thoughts after this situation in terms of 4WD?
This comforts me, I lost control while drifting my Tesla into the bushes, not crazy damage but more than scratches. Seeing a rally driver lose control like I did makes me feel a bit less sad❤️

Was expecting a more obvious mistake, but on that surface you were hittung all the previous corners gracefully... Then that one came up and I thought "oooh that's a sharp corner at the end of a downhill for this speed on this surface", I'm sure you thought the same thing. Looks like hopefully just a little cosmetic damage?
Weird, it looked like your counter steer was spot on. I'm wondering if the stability control was on? It could have prevented a proper catch. Just a thought.
The moment you over steered into that slippery corner I could see the car would skid, only way to drive through safely (in hindsight) was use the right bank which had some fresh snow in it. You positioned the car well next to the road. Hope you did not suffer too much damage to the car!
looks like he countersteered too early. But what do I know. I have a honda fit, and don't even drive like he does in that kind of slush. 😂 Keep your head up high and get back up on the Yaris.
Welp, I am not a real driver, but this happened to me this year xD I was luckier as I have a wide car and I fell in the ditch but the car was wide enough not to roll over. The tow truck just pulled me out and I could drive home, there was no damage at all (lucky me :D) But I usually drive fast... this time I drove slow as heck and darn ice still spanned me out... I have a very modified AWD vehicle and live on a long gravel road, so I'm no stranger to adverse conditions. But watching this just made me uncomfortable the whole time. We do get snow but I just do not enjoy driving at 10/10ths in snow 😅 So easy for the slightest error to completely punish you. Appreciate the vid though.
My "armchair" based on pushing an MR2 mk 2 first gen to the limit on old school 90s tyres, sometimes on UK iced up roads. He counter steered too much to the left. It's always tricky to "catch" the oversteer just at he right mo and back off.
man i wish the US had rallies where you could run a regular street car. Here the only way to rally is to have a $15,000 car and $5000 in other expenses for just the event.

They do. Different classes require different car and safety specs.
