This is less of a livestream and more of an unhinged rant around how my love of Lion El'Jonson and his sons will last forever. I will not be accepting disagreement at this time
In a 40K YT creator space rife with sensationalism, unnecessary humor, sarcasm, AI voiceovers, faceless creators, and regurgitated, scripted content, your maturity and balanced takes are very refreshing. The qualities of your voice are a welcome bonus too! Most importantly, though, no other creator (that I've watched) speaks so articulately in an unscripted, open, long-form manner. Very impressive. You are a well-read gentleman who is going to go far, Sandman! Best of luck! Oh and this video cements the Dark Angels as my favorite legion as well. 🤘😌
Just wait til Russ comes back with Odin-level prescience. Honestly can't wait to see him team up with Lion as a couple old wise dudes and just totally own chaos.
How I see the Nemiel incident is that it reinforces El'Jonson's pragmatic ruthlessness. What is more important, obeying the edict or surviving? The Emperor is not there and there is new information that changes the situation. Nemiel should've followed the direct order and let the primarch deal with whatever the fallout is with Big E.
I liked Nemiel and was hoping he would survive the Heresy but at that moment, he was jeopardizing the entire fleet and duty of the Dark Angels that while it is very regrettable, it is understandable why the Lion had to do it and I like that it played a big part in why he has changed now as it haunts him.
Yeah I recently read the story where the lion did this, with the pre knowledge of what happens. After listening to the passage, I was 💯 on board with what the lion did. Namiel was warned so many times before the attack, he chose his fate, and the lion took the pragmatic approach at the time and dealt with the consequences after. Sometimes You have to make the hard decisions to get to the destination.
Nemiel was a cool character. I hate he died in the book but he really asked for it. I mean, let’s not get it twisted. My man LE’J has a BAD temper. He should have known better. Plus it’s idiotic to just die and not help the Emperor survive based on a pre Heresy decision E made.
Loyal?? They have attacked and killed the custodians in the emperor's palace , killed and abandoned countless actually loyal soldiers and Marines allowing their destruction to pursue the hint of fallen. Killed many loyal people who found their "shame"...there are renegade chapters far far more loyal than them. News flash EVERY chapter had traitors most went oh those traitors idiots yeah we hunted them down and killed them not it's my secret shame rubbish 😂.
Gotta comment something, this amount of passion (completely devoid of bias or cope) needs any boost i can give it in the algorythm. As a defender of the position that Loyalist EC are the best legion, im taking notes from this livestream as to how to defend my take.
When you said Russ keeps up a facade that he is a beast but really is very intelligent - I had a friend in the army who was exactly like that! His nick name was Mallet, he would always act like he was a bit slow but then somebody would ask a question after a very complex briefing and Mallet used to reel off the whole operational plan including dates names numbers places coordinates. I asked him why he did that and he just said "it has always served me well" Mallet - a simple yet effective tool lol. He was and still is a great bloke. 😊 Also I am definitely going to join today. I have been enjoying the fact you have been uploading more videos than normal. 😊
I mean... the problem with that is that Russ's actual behaviour throughout the HH series is not particularly bright. He's consistently biting off more than he can chew, launching impetuous attacks that his decidedly mid-strength Legion cannot actually pull off, and playing into his whole 'executioner' act completely without any particularly cunning bait-and-switch inversions. He takes horrendous casualties in the attack on Prospero despite a) Magnus letting it happen and b) the support of the Sisters and the Custodes; he needs the Lion to save his backside from the Alpha Legion; he hares off on a dumb assassination attempt on Horus that not only fails, but destroys most of the remains of his legion and leaves him entirely absent for the siege of Terra. Acting the fool while secretly being wise only works if you know when it's time to drop the act. Russ either doesn't, or is in fact a fool despite his intellect.
The way you know the DA are the GOAT Legion is because all of their most famous victories are considered inconsequential to them. Anything they consider important is kept secret, even from themselves. It’s likely that all knowledge of many of their greatest achievements died with the last veteran who was there, because none of them ever told a soul. They also are apparently completely unbothered by the Lovecraftian Jawas who follow them around and have somehow become their personal sword caddies.
I fully understand that this is your genuine belief, based on lots of evidence in the lore, but in terms of content I'd love to see you try to put yourself in the mindset of doing a stream like this for each of the legions and their primarchs. Just something I'd enjoy watching, personally.
I like how everyone takes Alpharius' version of the meeting between him and the Lion during the Ragdan as gospel while ignoring the Lion's account in a story by Chris Wraight.

I’ve been a DA loyalist since 3rd Edition when I started playing 40k after coming over from Warhammer (old world). This was probably one of the most pleasant lore discussions I’ve observed regarding my beloved faction. There are loads of DA videos out there, but not many of them break down the motivations and history of the DA / Lion El’ so well. Keep making these videos, and I’ll keep watching!
My first army was Dark Angels which I started in 1994 at age 11 (2nd edition). I'm 41 and they are still there in their own carry case, waiting patiently for me to expand them out into a modern 10th edition force. Much of it consists of the old, heavy metal models which we don't see a lot of anymore, and there's some bits which I got from GW mail order like my terminator captain. Can you even get these things anymore?

I hate that I missed this stream because I spent most of 2023 building my DA successor chapter. They are an exiled chapter of those critical of the breaking of Caiban. For 10k years they srvived without reinforcement. When their geneseed failed due to copying, they were forced to incorporate the geneseed of the Iron Warriors whom they fought for many years. When the Lion returned, they confessed this shame to him, but he in turn told them the story of how Barabas Dantioch once saved his life.
Huron Blackheart is the 2nd most powerful chaos demon _because_ he was an ultramarine. He understood the assignment when he fell to chaos and was very efficient.
He's no Daemon, he's just another chaos corrupted Astartes. You have to be elevated to a Daemon Prince to achieve Daemonhood which very rarely happens.

Also, there's a reason why the Dark Angels has one of their monikers, in addition to being the Uncrowned Princes, as being called "The First". They're the first in everything they do.

Ave Brother Sandman. You honor us by setting aside time during our glorious season of celebrations! My thanks to you and your family for the sacrifices you all are making for the glory of the Imperium.
I hope in the new books there will be some good time spent on Raldoron and Azkaellon, plus the other surviving major Blood Angels captains. Raldoron is one of my favorite HH characters. I also hope the Raven Guard crew gets some more time too, the brothers Nev, and other RG commanders, plus Corvus! And of course, Sigismund :)
My favorite legion are the Blood Ravens, don't matter how many times they get smacked down they always get back up and come back better, stronger, harder, and with more stolen loot!
Have to agree with u mate thr Dark Angels and El Johnson have always been my favourite they r the most interesting chapter because they have been about so long. When the Dark Angels arrives in McCragg Guiliman was in aw of his troops. His whole story line with Curze who is my fav was goany say chaos Primarch but hee just thst evil hee not even turned. There fights are some of the best aswell na u won’t change my mind @ FOR THE LION
i didnt think it was possible to love yu anymore , but my god ypuve made me so happy seeing my bois topping the leaderboard by my fave streamer/person!!!
I just wanted to mention that everyone already knows that the DA are the best. Also, don't forget that the 1st Legion never fell. Every DA successor reports to the DA directly.
The lion and the dark angel are one of my top five favorite loyalist legion and primarch because of majorkill, wolf lord rho and sandman of terra. Thry got a new detachment and hope they beat the black templars because i felt that dark angel have to show who's the most powerful legion.
Yes they are, they are the only legion to be combined arms tacticians. They are not my favorite but they deserve the credit. I love the raven guard, found a short story in Iraq inside a uso box.
As a curiosity - what became of the Rock during the years between the Heresy and modern 40k? Since Zabriel is still alive to become first of the Fallen, did they flee into the eye of terror?
Zabriel was scattered throughout not just Space but Time, so hes hundreds of years old by the time the lion finds him makes him the first risen. The rock was used as the mobile fortress monastery of the dark angels
It's been nearly a year since the End and the Death Part 2, it's been nearly a year since we've had any banger of a book out of Black Library, no idea what's going on there but we need some new lore desperately.
I mean, of course they are more complex, they get asstons of lore just like any focus chapter. Try being cool after having like 4 books written by Nick Kyme and having 90% of your legion killed off. Its the drip.
The First are legitimately the best all around Legion. They can do just about everything that all the other Legion can perform. They were built to be the Conquers and the Destroyers. By the end of the Great Crusade they had become the Emperor's preferred legion when something had to be completely destroyed with NO record of the existence. The Emperor trusted the Lion without question above all the Brother Primarchs.
Given that Cypher has a relationship with the Watchers in the Dark - it'd make more sense Zahariel is Cypher given that Zahariel quite literally had a semi-relationship with them. its not rumoer the knights of lupus dabbled in chaos - they 100% did. its not verified 100% if the 2nd cypher was even from another legion - if that were the case how would Zahariel recognize him?
imagine if the lion was war master instead. "loyalty is its own reward" couldve had it but of course the emperor had to choose wrong. also didnt konrad fight robute and the lion at the same time briefly before escaping before he gets cornered by the lion. and konrads mind was deteriorating exponentially so im not quite sure how fair that fight was between him and the lion were fair, he literally looked more ghoulish than ever before because of cracked out he became, but yeah the lion is a G. konrad and the lion are my favorite primarchs because of how much their upbringings mirror each other with vastly different outcomes. if only konrad didnt crash land on that wretched planet and was raised by humans that cared for him.
Yeh, the lion complained about girly man hindering him and getting in his way. During the first fight, the lion was cutting Conrad to pieces before Conrad decided to jump at the lion. But the fight doesn’t make sense after that. Since the lion was a baby, he had been wrestling chaos beasts and killing them with his bare hands, all the way to adulthood. He also has super natural reflexes that make future sight nul. So when Conrad jumped at the lion, the lion would already know it’s coming and has decades of years of experience to hand to hand combat. But every fight after the first, it was Conrad getting beat and on the run.
One thing I don't care about, like at all, is the fact that the dark angels were the template that everyone else come from. I get that it's a cool bit of trivia, but it just doesn't matter? They're not inherently better than the others because of it. But I get geeking out over your favorite legion, it's nice to see it.
Let me say I’m a biased DAs fan. BUT, I’m also a big Crimson Fists collector too. I’m a Dorn fan but I really don’t understand why he is thought to be so great compared to the top primarchs. The defense of Terra was a failure. Perturabo broke Dorn’s defenses. Then after the Heresy, he was soundly beaten by Perturabo again at the Iron Cage. Sanguinius, Guilliman, and Lion’s plan worked. That’s what pushed Horus to bring E into his ship. Dorn’s defenses being broken also played a roll in E’s decision to take Horus’s bait and board his ship. Dorn’s awesome, but he’s not near top of the list. I think I’m being fairly unbiased. I mean, I love Konrad Curze but I definitely admit if he’s not last in line he’s very close. 😂 As for the Dark Angels, I really don’t even think it’s debatable that Heresy Dark Angels are the absolute cream of the crop. 40K Dark Angels……😬 I love the 40K DA characters but…yeah. The DAs and SWs kinda swapped. 30k wolves are numb skulls among numb skulls. Just blithering idiots. The 40K Wolves are actually pretty good. Oh, and my head cannon is the Star Phantoms are 100% Dreadwing descendants that the DAs blame for blowing up Caliban and that’s why they don’t get along. My mind will not be changed.
It is okay, he just missed the word. We all know he meant the 9th, sons of THE Angel. Its human to make mistakes like that, tho brother did you notice his resemblance to Horus? HORUS!?
Zahariel = 1st DA Daemon Prince. (I'm betting Nurgle) He'll be what freaks out Luther and why he's a babbling wreck in 40k. My fanboy hope is 40k Cypher is Corswain waiting for dad.
"post your joy--toy collection in the discord...". I haven't started painting models yet so my first thought was, "is he talking about the hookers in Cyberpunk 2077?"
I am so torn between White Scars and Dark Angels. I know the saying goes Russ is a man pretending to be a beast and the Lion is a beast pretending to be a man but I think people really underplay him slaughtering Demons for years with his bare hands as a naked child. No other primarch has gone through so much the second they landed other than Angron and killing the Dark Eldar wore him down so much mere humans captured him!
I think Dark angels are designed for killing the mechanicum, and for enemies that need utterlh destroyed in secret. The space wolves, as the executioners have to be effective at killing space marines, and other enemies, and do so "theatrically" to put it that way, so they can be seen doing it. So space wolves are bragards, in a fun way, but the best at killing space marines. Dark angels, and the lion, would be able to wipe out a lot of the enemies, including primarchs and space marines, in secret.
@@SandmanofTerra Fair point, I know that Mr. Baldermort made a similar remark once, I think. I do rather like the Dark Angels even though I favor the Space Wolves myself. There is something titanic, awesome and fist-clenching in saying "The First", can't deny it.
I really don't like that the broken up chapters gotnrid of so many of their unique organisation. For example the fire wing of the DA or the Karaoghlanlar of thw white scars
Sanguinius wasn't loyal to the Emperor. He loved him like a child loves his parent. Russ isn't able to be disloyal on a psychological level. There are primarchs who per se weren't loyal to the Emperor , like the Raven and the Hawk , but rather to humanity or the empire . Vulkan and Ferrus made a choice to follow the Emperor, because they both decided that he is good . In both cases it allowed them both to return from death. Gulliman and the Lion are the two who think of the Emperor in terms of loyality. Only jn Gman case the lotality is based on pragmatism. He can imagine a reality without the Emperor. For the Lion such a reality does not exist.
@@piotrjeske4599 Saying Sanguinius wasn’t Loyal like this, Would have just gotten you branded a heretic….. they literally have holidays in the imperium for Sanguinius’ loyalty and death to the Emperor

You said the word "joytoy" and my ignorant ass imagined a primarch standing on the corner on jig jig street in cyberpunk or arguing with the leader of the mox about joining the mox as a joytoy. 😂.40k in cyberpunk, never thought I needed to see this mod until now xD.
Ohhh my sweet boy Conrad getting his callouts.
My favorite legion are the Blood Ravens, don't matter how many times they get smacked down they always get back up and come back better, stronger, harder, and with more stolen loot!
Not a legion
Ed, I believe you misspelled ‘White Scars’. Please correct your title for the Khagan 🙃
This is just what I need as I’m building a DA heresy army
“I’d be annoyed too if my brother nuked where I live” 😂
I love your approach l
I just wanted to mention that everyone already knows that the DA are the best. Also, don't forget that the 1st Legion never fell. Every DA successor reports to the DA directly.
Bias? There is no bias when facts are involved. May the Lion smile upon you, battle brother.
For Caliban!
For the Lion!
For the Emperor!
Here's why the Dark Angels are the greatest legion brought to you by the unbiased opinion of a massive Dark Angles fan.
I always enjoy a AlphaLegionInRobes *ahem* Dark Angels story
The dark angels and the lion were my favorite legion. But then I met the Khan. Now dark angels are my second favorite. We laugh as we kill
Totally agree. The dark angels are the rolmodel of the spacemarines.
Also, the lion almost killed sanguinius just to kill konrad. At the last second he realized he was being played by chaos
I’m new to the Dark Angels and currently building a 30k army. Is there a recommend reading list and order to get up to date with the lore?
Start with Descent of Angels, then Primarch novel chronologically, then move through the heresy
FOR THE LION
All the girls really care about is size, and you already known which legion was the biggest: Robert Guiltyman's as charged
Laugh in 500 worlds of Ultramar
Space Sharks V.S. Dark Angels... WHO YOU GOT????
The First are legitimately the best all around Legion. They can do just about everything that all the other Legion can perform. They were built to be the Conquers and the Destroyers. By the end of the Great Crusade they had become the Emperor's preferred legion when something had to be completely destroyed with NO record of the existence. The Emperor trusted the Lion without question above all the Brother Primarchs.
Does cypher still have the lions sword, or has lion taken it back.
He uses a different one
All hail the Uncrowned Princes of Caliban !
One thing I don't care about, like at all, is the fact that the dark angels were the template that everyone else come from. I get that it's a cool bit of trivia, but it just doesn't matter? They're not inherently better than the others because of it. But I get geeking out over your favorite legion, it's nice to see it.
Being a prototype has its certain charm
Thanks
Legend, thank you mate!
Great vid! Please help, why was old caliban so seemingly suffused with chaos, mainly the beasts i think?
It was located relatively close to the Eye of Terror
Take a shot every time you hear " dark angels"
"THEY SPECIALIZE IN EVERYTHING"
Well you have to listen to the big boss what else should he do when you’re underling disobeys the pride leader 😎
While Konrad Curze is not a great dad he's definitely not the worst out of the Primarchs.
The dark angels formation mirrors a biblically accurate angel, 6 wings, an inner circle (ring) and covered in eyes (the watchers)
"Death Guard some of the best for siege warfare"
*sad Iron Warrior noises
Iv been playing Dark angels since the angels of death codex. They are the best and aways will be ..... FOR THE LION!!!!!!
Administratum: "Wasn't there a forge world here?"
El Jonson: "Who? Never heard of him."
Conrad correctly realize that his sons are the problem so them going away is fine.
We are the First. We are the Dark Angels. For the Lion, For the Emperor!
As for the Dark Angels, I really don’t even think it’s debatable that Heresy Dark Angels are the absolute cream of the crop.
You’re not saying Blood Angels right.
JOYTOY is an action figure brand that makes really high quality 40k figures
They need to balance 40K like MTG.
Set rough power levels
Create paradoy & paradox
I am so torn between White Scars and Dark Angels.
I know the saying goes Russ is a man pretending to be a beast and the Lion is a beast pretending to be a man but I think people really underplay him slaughtering Demons for years with his bare hands as a naked child.
No other primarch has gone through so much the second they landed other than Angron and killing the Dark Eldar wore him down so much mere humans captured him!
Great choices both!
I thought the Space Wolves, being the Emperors executioners, were the ones designed to kill space marines? Or did I miss a trick?
I think Dark angels are designed for killing the mechanicum, and for enemies that need utterlh destroyed in secret. The space wolves, as the executioners have to be effective at killing space marines, and other enemies, and do so "theatrically" to put it that way, so they can be seen doing it. So space wolves are bragards, in a fun way, but the best at killing space marines. Dark angels, and the lion, would be able to wipe out a lot of the enemies, including primarchs and space marines, in secret.
They are indeed! Excutioners and exterminators are different roles
@@SandmanofTerra Fair point, I know that Mr. Baldermort made a similar remark once, I think. I do rather like the Dark Angels even though I favor the Space Wolves myself.
There is something titanic, awesome and fist-clenching in saying "The First", can't deny it.
Top five legions:
Grey Knights
Dark Angels
Black Templars
Salamanders
Alpha Legion
Honorary Mentions :
Raven Guard and Iron Hands.
Black templars and grey knights aren't legions, they are chapters. BT came from the imperial fists legion for example
who is lemon rush?
I really don't like that the broken up chapters gotnrid of so many of their unique organisation. For example the fire wing of the DA or the Karaoghlanlar of thw white scars
Sanguinius was the most loyal by far…… hello? Dying for his LOYALTY to the Emp.
The lion would've done the same. Those two are the most loyal together :)
I thought lion was found as a child? Im not up on the lore but years ago i believe i read that?
Nah it's as I say in the video
A youth, yeah
You should 1v1 chapter master valrak
Dark angels Number 1
No bias detected, brother.
I am also biased of the dark angels. 1st legion is best legion.
