Reason why superheroes rarely have children: they get hit in the groin by a rogue brick from the rubble of a building they savagely destroyed at some point
Not only simple and straight to the point, but this has great attention to detail. The interaction between Spider-Man and the puddle beneath him really adds to the overall effect and gives life to the scene. The first splash when he plants his foot and the second as he is falling and puts his knee into the water was something that didn’t need to be in the scene and it was something most people wouldn’t think of putting in the scene, but Podel knew it would add so much more. It really brings you into the scene mentally and emotionally. Something else was the clever sound design at play. The brick hitting Spider-Man’s groin made a much greater sound than it would in a real life setting. I think this really conveys the impact of the brick and the pain Spider-Man feels. Not only the sound of the impact, but Spider-Man’s reaction to the event has also conveyed just how powerful and possibly painful the impact must have been. Spider-Man’s reaction to the impact through his movement also has an effect on the scene. Firstly, I believe that this is a beautifully animated scene and the motion Spider-Man coveys is very realistic and brings us into the scene. Second, Spider-Man’s movement shows just how impactful the brick was and how it may have affected Spider-Man. There is one more part of the scene that looks to be in the forefront or “action”, so to speak. The dust cloud, blurring the lines between the foreground and background (merging them, in a way), further conveys the damage and action in the background that we are brought to believe Spider-Man has probably caused. This brings me to my last point. The background is not just a normal city. Podel could have just set a normal city background for this scene, but Podel specifically chose a city that looks to have just had a multiple car pile up and possibly other damage. This was most likely for a reason. We are either brought to believe that Spider-Man did this (maybe also adding to why he is getting a brick thrown at him in the first place), that Spider-Man is here BECAUSE this happened, or a “villain” that Spider-Man is fighting caused this (who may also have thrown the brick at Spider-Man). This really adds to the story and adds a sense of mystery even.

This is the thing I love about animation, if you can think it, you can animate it. And sometimes you also have cases where if you can think it, you probably shouldn't animate if you don't want people to think you're a psychopath
