I am now 87 y/o, learned this song when I was less than 10 y/o. It was taught me by a Mr. Vaughn, who taught many subjects, one of which was music at P.S. 194 in Harlem. Rest in Peace Sir. Jesus is Love

If you were born in this country you’re an American. African American refers to African migrants to the US. If we never get rid of the labels we can’t move forward.

I teach in a DC elementary school and the Alicia Keys version is played at morning announcements. It’s an inspiring piece.

The song just doesn't make sense in today's society. A lot has changed since the 1960 since the civil rights movement. A lot has changed in the last 50 years. There's no reason for it anymore. Black people today are not struggling in the same way. They did before the civil rights movement. I know that from experience. 'cause I come from a mix race family. Nowadays, most people just trying to play victim off of someone else's suffering. And that's not how that work you cannot be affected, you cannot be traumatized. You cannot be victimized by something you never experience. You could feel bad for the people that it happened too, America, today is Just as free. for Black people as it is for white people. And I know that just by living my everyday life. Most black people in the 21st century have never even experienced racism. It's been that way since the eighties and nineties. It's like lil Wayne said. I am a rich black millionaire. If that don't tell you that America today is free for black people. I don't know what will. And he grew up in the hood. When you have Black people who grew up in the hood who lived in the ghetto. Who never experienced racism a day in their lives. That should tell you something. Poor white people in today's society. Are going through the exact same struggle in the exact same hard times as poor black people are. Which black people have just as much power and benefit from the system, just as much as rich white people do. Because money is power and power is money and all rich people have it regardless of the color of their skin. If you're a rich black millionaire and you're claiming that American is not free for you. Why are you lying? You're a liar. When you got gangster rappers, who are calling you out for your b S I mean, come on, just tell the truth, you're just tell the truth.

It's a beautiful song to say the least, but people are taking it as Black Americans separating themselves from the National Anthem. In the end, we're all American, sure we all have our histories and oppressions, but ABOVE all else, we strive to be unified as one. In my opinion, it should be sung loud and proud, but not treated equal to the national anthem.

I can see how the words of This Black National Anthem can have profound effects on our Nation’s Heritage. And it’s not all good as the words can make some people feel profoundly uncomfortable.
However where in our actual National Anthem is slavery ever mention?
    No where!
It is about those who made our Country and died for our Country so that someday we all will share life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness as one human race.
We are now divided in so many ways and sadly soon to fall.

So you never heard of the third verse of the National Anthem?
America will not succeed until it reconciles it's original sin

Lmao have you even heard the third verse? It talks about slaves and what will happen if the become British slaves. As the British offered black slaves to be there's and then they can earn there freedom and land
